Congratulations on making the crossing. I've flown that route and it seemed a long way over the sea even in a microlight! I would have been scared to do the crossing so low. I always cross water as high as possible to give me plenty of time to radio for help if the engine conks out. I've not yet crossed any significant water by paramotor but would certainly like to. I have an immersion suit and locator beacon so I think a ditching would be survivable.

A valid point well put. What pisses me off is seeing what a nation of wingers and complainers we've become. Mostly due to our vile press who's primary mission seems to be to keep the population scared and angry. When I flew microlights in Spain in the 90's, the lovely folks in my village wanted me to fly lower so that their kids could see me waving back at them.

Although I'm aware of the argument that things like this could give paramotoring a bad name, I think we often over-react. Every time some idiot drives down a residential street at 40mph the danger to the public is 1000 times greater than some guy flying lower than he should. In that newspaper article, they couldn't think of any danger other than a 'distraction to motorists'. I regularly drive past Heathrow and manage to survive whilst 'distracted' by a 747 passing right over me at a few hundred feet. If somebody circled low over my house regularly, I might be mildly irritated but someone passing low overhead once in a blue moon? Anyone who sees that as a cause to write to their MP needs to get a life!

....and what a splendid day it was! I got up early but failed miserably to get airborne due to zero wind and a wing sodden with dew! (Any tips?) ....went home in a bad mood and waited for the evening. At 6pm there was a perfect 5 knots blowing across the field so I reverse launched and was away on the first attempt. What a contrast! The flight was a full circuit of Oxford taking about an hour and it was absolutely marvellous! Who else flew yesterday? and where did you go?

Sorry all, I only just noticed this thread! Here's my reply to the newer query on the general discussion board: Hey Morgy, I've had a V5 for a couple of months now. As I'm a newbie, I don't have anything to compare it to apart from the parajet that I trained on. I've not had any problems with it. It starts easily and it sounds great! It's not too heavy and it gets me into the air very quickly (although I only weigh 65kg so best to get some feedback from someone less skinny!) Getting into the harness is extremely easy. (perhaps too easy as it seems to scoop me up the moment I get some lift so I have to make a conscious effort to stay upright until well clear of the ground) Fuel consumption seems to be very good. Other pilots at my field seem suitably impressed and are thinking of getting one. Just to clarify, Paul Bailey didn't say not to bother about a hang check but that my instructor would do one for me. Simon was away at the time and I was keen to get going so I did my own hang check and emailed photos to Paul to ok the position. Obviously I would have preferred a hang check at the factory and In hindsight I should have dug my heels in and insisted on one. I have not had any problems landing with the angle that it is set at. There is a tube running from the cylinder head into the frame. There is a plastic end cap missing from the base tube on the port side and a small amount of oil appears to drain out of the frame at that point. However, I have not noticed a significant drop in the oil level after 10 hrs.

I'm a beginner and fly a dudek synthesis. (reflex) which I also trained on. I have found it to be reasonably easy to launch. Not that I've had anything to compare it to, but given that I'm a beginner and I can launch it, it must therefore be easy to launch. I was under the impression that it only has a reflex profile when the trimmers are let out so presumably at the launch stage it's not really a reflex wing anyway.
