  1. Had the same problem and I went along to Maplins with the relevant radio and headset and sweet talked 'em until they let me try several of their adapters until I got the right one - about a fiver it was and works a treat.
  2. I think that the carpetted launch site (with tree) may be this very one Incidentally most of the columns etc were on the deck for centuries until re-erection (ooh matron) of some of them half a century ago by cranes etc operated by army national servicemen including 'bus pass Dave' pictured about to launch there in 2005 (in the days before succumbing to the attractions of Mr Bailey's back-warmers) Agree - definitely a wonderful place for flying (although the antiquities people are not too impressed with inadvertent top landings within the clifftop archaelogical site in the background. Allegedly).
  3. Only snap I can find of a Cyprus 'bottom landing site' of that description is a pic of heading towards this one from a couple of years ago.
  4. I am probably missing something obvious, but I would have thought that good first step towards PPG for a serving member of HM Forces would have been to sign up for (engineless) Paragliding through either the RAF HG/PG Assoc (membership @ rafhpa.com) or the Joint Services Association (ripstra @ msn.com) (both addresses without the spaces) Chance of keeping the cost down with any luck through access to the adventurous training budget, and can use their kit too. Means that less of the subsequent PPG training is spent in ground handling training as at the very least the basics of wing waggling should have become familiar in the PG environment.
  5. The 2CV was the first vehicle model to have been offered with a factory-fitted 'save the whale' sticker....
  6. Ah, the delights of vibration through the airframe while laying with your head in the tail dome... Happy days.

    Spam Buster...

These 419 scams keep rolling and rolling, dont they! If you have ten minutes or so, the link below is to the log of one operation that somewhat turned the tables on one such scammer and involved him/them in not inconsiderable expense and emb*ggerance: http://www.419eater.com/html/bigman.htm However, unless you have a whole load of time to waste it is not usually a good move to respond in any way as the only thing that really does is to confirm to the spammers that the targetted address is in fact an active email account which will then feature on the 'qualified' lists that spamming fraudsters sell to each other! (Unless of course you know how to spoof source addresses in which case a nice touch is to send your abusive reply with a spoofed address of the policeman of your choice). For an amusing spoof on the scamming phenomenon, try http://www.tiscali.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=138811 which deals with the sad case of a Mr A Darling of Westminster who tragically not only risked having his own identity stolen but also sadly lost the identities of 25 million other people.....
  8. I should think they have been stopped! Red Arrows indeed! It is also the intention presumably to abandon the fencing events, judo and other contact sports, shot put, javelin as all being too violently militaristic. (sadly it appears that particular petition closed a week ago)
  9. we learn something every day - until now I never knew that cephalopods even had prostates...
  10. Suppose a local video gallery as an alternative to Youtube etc is not out of the question? Dick Gallagher
  11. Sort of lost focus on t shirts and stuff there for a bit thanks to some wonderful North Wales flying. So, is this still happening, or to put it another way where should I send me cheque! (Or mayhap a peak district rendezvous for cash?) Dick G.
  12. Got to have one, if for no other reason than to wind up the memsahib. er...'big boned' size I reckon (teeshirt, not the memsahib). XL at a push.
  13. Lurker, finally breaking cover.... Personal feel on BPMA is that associations/organisations of this kind justify their existence mostly through application of bulk buying power - the sort of 'member benefits' deals on cheaper insurance, discount on parts etc. That, I feel, is the basis on which many punters such as me for instance join owners clubs for specific types of car etc. - for the owners club insurance as much or more than the social opportunities (although they may be fun too). If however the benefits turn out to be so much vapour, the membership kind of shrivels quite soon down to the hard core of people who seem to get a buzz out of being on the letterheads of organisations.... There is also value in having a single pressure group to argue the member's viewpoint for example in the transponder situation - but to achieve anything it needs to avoid diluting the voice into too many different organisational voices (all insisting that they are the real Brian) and have credibility through numbers under its banner. For PG the BHPA has a presence recognised by the CAA due to a reasonable membership - but for many PG pilots I am sure that the main reason for staying with the BHPA at all is the 3rd party insurance that you buy as part of the annual subs. There is therefore a 'hard' reason for PG pilots to join/remain and therefore form part of the weight of numbers that keeps the BHPA voice audible. Now if someone could combine some of the 'hard' advantages (saving a tenner here, a fiver there) with the positive "sod organisational politics, lets go flying" ethos of setups such as this forum (where new darksiders such as me can pick up a heck of a lot of useful information in an informal way) they'd be onto a winner for sure!
