tomarnold
I fly a fresh breeze solo 210 with tuned pipe, and I use a NGK B8HS plug with a 4mm gap. Hope this helps. Is it a fresh breeze machine?
PatPux
Really...4mm, that's a huge gap isn't it? 0.4mm?
PatPux
Or maybe .04" http://ngk-sparkplugs.com/b8hs10-p-1776.html

PatPux
No......04" or 1mm
tomarnold
Nope, 0.4mm not inches
PatPux
The NGK Blurb says .039" which equals 1mm, that would be normal for that sort of plug http://ngk-sparkplugs.com/b8hs10-p-1776.html
tomarnold
Hmm, that is very interesting. I was advised 0.4mm by fresh breeze themselves, so that is what I set the gap at. However, I have been having trouble with idling, so perhaps fresh breeze meant inches not mm (although I just checked their email which does definitely specify 0.4mm). I'm flying this evening so I'll set the plug to 1mm and see how it runs...
PatPux
Yes, give it a try. FB could have had a metric/imperial muddle up. Clearly you will get a bigger spark with a bigger gap, and the plug manufacturer says their plug will support that size gap. But, then again maybe FB have a specific reason for under specifying the gap.
tomarnold
Ah, just realised that the page you linked to is for the B8HS-10, not the B8HS. I searched for B8HS and came up with this: http://www.ngk.com/product.aspx?zpid=9251 which says the gap should be 0.6mm. Perhaps FB suggest 0.4mm so it stresses the ignition system less? (Evidently I am no spark plug expert - take my guesses with a pinch of salt!)
PatPux
Well, that'll be it then
Xplorer
The ONLY difference between B8HS and B8HS-10 is that the latter has been accurately pre-gapped to 1.0mm which is way too big for the 210. You can re-gap it though. Anywhere from 0.4 to 0.6 is good. A larger gap retards the timing slightly for extra safety. Smaller gap gives a bit more performance at the risk of detonation.
