Hann__
What size Synth would this theoretical pilot require? Pilot (95kg) + motor (28kg) + wing (7kg) = 130kg. (with fuel 137kg...) Synth in-flight weight range: 29M @ 95 - 120kg, or 31M @ 110 - 135kg. The reason i ask is because it seems a lot of PPG pilots use a wing over the max in-flight weight. clivefreeman
I would go with a 34, especialy when you add your flying gear helmet clothes etc.. About 10kg Edited December 13, 2012 by Guest

Hi As far as I am aware you do not include the weight of the wing or fuel in calculations. So I would make it the following. Pilot (95kg) + motor (28kg) + Reserve \ vario \ clothes \ boots etc (12kg) = 135kg So I would go for the 31m
clivefreeman
Why would you not include the wing it's still carrying its own weight! But i don't include the fuel as it tends to disappear as you use it . The synth is quite a thirsty wing so you don't realy want to be right at the end of the weight range or over it ! My Under standing was that it was rated to carry this weight, not including the weight of the wing. I am sure some one will correct me though
skybound
Dudek Importer Dudek Calculation as follows (other manufactures differ) Naked Weight+15kg(average wing weight and pilot clothing)+Dry weight of Motor (no fuel) + accessories ( reserves, 20kg of non essential electrical crap) Simples

stuartasutherland
I think I read that the weight of the wing should be included for the Synthesis - read the technical blurb for clarification. I have a 34 and weigh the same as you.
ganers
Don't forget to factor in the weight loss from running around in training if just starting out. Ground handling is the best diet known to man!
stuartasutherland
Just checked my Synthesis manual It says to incude the weight of the wing in calculations (mine is 8.2kg) Also obviously include everything else but NOT FUEL.

Better to be near max weight or slightly over then too light or slightly under?

Hann__
Eh? No reserve or unecessary electrical crap will be used (any additional weightage will be limited to just a ham and cheese sandwich and bottle of weak lemon drink)...... clivefreeman
If your not worried about fuel burn and fast landings then go for it.. If you are going to use speed bar just make sure your motor is up to it, you dont want to be on full chat for to long or start to lose height. Which motor do you have ?
