dantheman
While the tracking may be temporarily down, the pilot logs are now up - worth a read... http://www.tiptotip.co.uk/logs.php
slim
After the satellite company had a web server failure yesterday my geeks have been working on our own version of the maps page and it is up now. www.tiptotip.co.uk/TipToTip.php Our version has the advantage that you'll be able to see more than just the last 24 hours. We'll be adding more features as time goes on. The next one on the list will be a direct download of the KML file so you can fly it in Google Earth on your own desktop. Armchair TipToTip! Whatever next? Stuart

frazer1981
Ive just got some black shapes? is there something i need to install?
slim
That's odd. Are you still getting the black shapes? We're pretty frustrated. We've been testing this stuff for months now and it has worked flawlessly. The week we need it to work and the satellite company decide to make all sorts of changes to their software and web servers! Grrrr. It is looking much better now though. Fantastic to see the guys flying this evening! S.

Phil_P
Is it just me that can't see a map scale on the tracking page? Have tried zooming but it makes no difference. Would be nice to tell distance.
dantheman
If you run up google earth you can stick a measurement on the distances, for example this mornings leg from near Silverstone to Monks Kirby (M6) is only 25 miles
norman
Yes Dan, they are only making around 10mph due headwinds from W-NW. Had a text from Whitters - see the other thread, 'They are off'.
slim
You can download the Google Earth track points here (right click and "save link as"). These are the raw points from the very beginning, including when the guys have left their trackers on all night so there is a lot of data and some of it just wanders around in fields If you decide to buy a SPOT tracker do please let SPOT know that you're supporting Tip To Tip. They've promised to let us have the purchase price for any units purchased because of the project as a donation to the charities. Outstanding support. There is a subscription element to the service so read the details carefully to make sure you know which service you want. More fun later. slim
It would be possible if I'd remembered who I'd given which tracker to. I'll try and work it out

norman
Alan, Slim (Stuart) will probably come back to answer your query as he is the 'Team Geek' with this stuff. I say that with some respect and affection of course. PM him for more detail.
alanhinsaudi
Thanks, I've managed to source one from a company called Expansys for £98 including VAT and postage. All the other retailers were quoting between £130 to £140. Expansys don't have them in stock but order them as required but as I don't need it immediately it isn't a problem.
