fuzzybabybunny
When you pull the rope slowly there are moments where it pulls easier and moments when it pulls harder. When you're doing a pull start are you supposed to pull slowly just past the hard part (just past when the compression has been released), stop, and then yank hard and fast? Or are you supposed to pull and stop right before the hard bit (mid-compression?), and then yank?
Trevsked
Second option, pull to the compression then release and give it a decent pull. Trevor.

Ok, so basically your yank is trying to immediately push through the hardest part of the cycle?
Trevsked
Correct. Trevor.

kiwi k
Depends on the engine and type of starter installed. Si and Trev starting my engine by your method will only break you. Mines got a flash starter and needs the piston to be at BDC before pulling or it will just lock up and kill your attempt at starting. Plus some need certain amount of Primer bulb pumps to assist also.
admin (Simon W)
I had not considered flash starters... good shout. SW
