  1. Hi all, Just wondered how many of you have reserves attached whilst flying paramotors normally (ie non aerobatic etc) and how much of a "must have" it is? I know its an absolute must have when Paragliding. Cheers, Vin
  2. Lol, Im feeling totally inadequate now!!
  3. I believe Paramotoring is an amazing aerial freedom that most people with the desire for flight and adventure can achieve with a relitavely low budget (considering we are actually flying an aircraft), and without the regulation that flying other aircraft entails. I hope it stays that way. I want my flying to be as safe and enjoyable as possible (after all I dont want the real flight safety inspector, AKA the wife to ground me ), Fingers crossed my Synth 2 combined with great instruction and my desire to remain safe will ensure I enjoy this hobby for many years. Hopefully by keeping myself as safe as I can I will instill confidence in the doubters I meet...you never know...they may run into the sky also if they believe this hobby isnt as crazy as it may seem to the passer by . Its like most things though; when I was a biker I always wanted a bigger, faster and the best I could afford...must resist the temptation!
  4. Hi, just read your post..I had the same dilemma as I live in the North East also. I now travel a couple of hours down to Hull to train. Its a bit of a drive but so worth it....the instructors are brilliant and so are the other members and students involved with the club. Vin
  5. Massive thanks again to Alan and Paul! Cant wait to get airborne again!,
  6. Nervous is good in my opinion. You see it all the time in aviation; as experience grows complacency kicks in and there is nearly always only one winner and its not the pilot. Im not on FB at the moment but my instructor uses it to let people know when he is going to be at the field so I may end up on it. My plan is to continue training until its suitable to have a go tandem before I invest in gear (hate to buy gear and discover its not for me....no chance of me not liking it I doubt though)! I will definately buy a wing and harness to practice ground handling as soon as I am sure its for me though. As you say, we will have to meet up. I will have a word with the farmer and see if you can have a flight out of his field. Also I know a pilot on this forum called Dom, he's a great fella and really helpful. My mob is 07850 110494 if you want to get in touch, Cheers, Vin
  7. Training with Paul and Alan at Hull Aerp Club. Only done a little bit of ground handling so far but loved it. Waiting to do a tandem flight so I know for sure its for me (cant see it not being though!...Im obsesssed with it already)! Great club and great bunch of lads...learnt loads in the few hours I was there. Only downside is its a 02:15 drive but well worth it. Where abouts in Durham are you? We need to get a club started in the NE! Vin
  8. Hi Dean, I live near Richmond N yorks, so not far from you. Im just getting started with the training so I have a long way to go yet. Happy to say I already have permission to fly out of a field where I live so one obstacle down .
  9. Love the look of the Revo 3! Love to know how it compares to a Synth 2? I would love either one of those wings to start off on. Praying for better weather to get my training done then hopefully I can make a decision
  10. Totally agree with you Simon. Most people I talk to about Paramotoring think its a sport for the crazy risk takers and actions like that do not help in my opinion.
  11. Getting a Tandem flight sorted soon so I will get an idea what its like before I start training
  12. Hi Aidan, Im going to get started ASAP then hopefully I will see you in the sky around Melsonby. Sent you a PM
  13. Hi Bobby, great to hear you got started so quickly! I hope to start ASAP; I have spent far to long dreaming about it! You and your mate looked like you were having a great time!! Would you mind if I contact you to have a chat? Cheers, Vin
  14. Hi Simon, there has been a multitude of hold-ups: financial, my Wife (and myself) worrying about the safety aspect (I had a Flexi microlight accident in March which I was very lucky to walk away from) and also a couple of very near purchases of full Paramotor set-ups that I was extremely close to buying. The reason I didnt buy the rigs is that although the first the first I intended to buy was immaculate, I was advised very strongly the wing was totally unsuitable for a beginner (Macpara Velvet). The second set-up wa snot as described...damaged etc. In hind sight, I am glad to have had these problems as its made me realise that in reality it makes much more sense to train first and then look around for gear and its also allowed me to learn so much more about what is good and not so good in the Paramotor world! I'm hoping to be able to have a Tandem flight with Hull Aero Club Paramotors with Alan. I'm hoping this will well and truly hook me and I can then train with Alan; realising my dream . Its a 2.15hr drive from my home but I'm sure it will be worth it. Got to say just researching all about this sport is amazing enough...God knows what its like to actually do it!! Vin
  15. Hi all, About the 15th or so of Oct I saw Paramotors flying around Middleton Tyas and Hutton Magna. I was standing on my wall and totally enthralled!!..my wife was taking the mickey out of me stood there with my mouth hanging open! Lol Anyway, I just wanted to say how great it was to see them flying around this part of N. Yorks (its a rare sight) and if you are a member of this forum please get in touch as I am hell bent on finally getting into this hobby ( turning out to be one hell of a struggle to get properly started), so the chance to meet local pilots would be great! Cheers, Vin
  16. Hi Alan, thanks for the reply. The wing is a 29 so the largest one rated to 150kg. I am 95kg in my birthday suit at the moment but hope to get back to 90kg. I am guessing I will be ok wing loading wise. Cant help but wonder if (a) I should wait and do my training to make sure his is truly the flying hobby for me before buying kit (tried all other flying hobbies except gliding) and (b,) the wing will be lacking in terms of safety and performance compared to a modern wing. Vinny
  17. Hello all, I have the opportunity to buy a package of a Macpara Velvet, Parajet Volution Comp plus reserve for£2700. They are reputed to be immaculate with 20hrs use. They were bought new 2008 by the seller. I just want to check if people think the wing would be acceptable for a complete newbie as the Macpara website states they are an intermediate wing? Any advise greatly appreciated.
  18. Ok, cheers Simon. I guess I may have to venture down to boston. I see they do courses and also do tandem flights. Anybody have experience of using them?
  19. Cheers Michael, good to hear its possible to get sorted for3k and hopefully get reasonably decent gear. I will have to find out where the nearest site is in the North East. I know Active Edge do it, they seem to concentrate more on getting you through the paragliding syllabus first and then train you on your own motor. Just worried thats a far more expensive way; maybe Im wrong and thats the route you should take into paramotoring? Any thoughts much appreciated, cheers
  20. Cheers George. Cant wait to have a go; very few schools around in the north east. All the schools in my neck of the woods.
  21. I would love "paramotoring from the ground up", just looking to start paramotoring and would love as much advice as possible. Ps, if there are any pilots in the north east willing to give me some pointers it would be much appreciated.
  22. Hello all, a bit about myself and a question. I have been a wannabe pilot for many years now. I hCastellucciove flown Models, GA and Microlights (my favourite by far being a flexwing). The reason I got into Microlights was I wanted to fly as cheaply as possible and initially I wanted to Paramotor but was put off when I made enquiries to how much a setup would cost and was told at least £6500. So I ended up looking at flexwings as I could pick one up for £2500. The reality is that although cheap to buy they can be, actually running and keeping one can be quite costly (also the idea of paramotors never quite left me). So on to my question; I know of a full second hand setup that has 10 flights use and comprises of a Fly Castelluccio 122/ 130 (are they still in business?), synthessis 31(2007), ground harness, vario, gps, icom, all covers and flying suit ect. Is it possibly worth £3000? I weigh 90-95kg. Also, before I commit to anything, I need to go to a funday or have a lesson to see if I would enjoy it. Just wondered if the package was a good buy? Cheers.
