  1. Hi Andy, There's a growing bunch of pilots that fly from York, Selby, Thornton-Le-Dale & wherever the weather takes us. We are a friendly bunch & Marko, the founder of Yorkshire Paramotors is an instructor who I did my training with & highly recommend. I will send a pm with my telephone number, please feel free to give me a call & you'd be more than welcome to come down to the field next time we're flying. Cheers, Craig.
  2. 99% of non smokers die. (Mark E Smith - The Fall)
  3. Gents, Would you mind letting me know how much the prop is. I have a Bailey 175 v2 & have been thinking about investing in a spare to prevent any lost flying time should the inevitable happen! Cheers, Craig.
  4. Hi Rob, Yes - things are going really well thanks! Started my training on the 23rd February with Mark Jenkinson of Yorkshire Paramotors who I can very highly recommend. Have had a great time since, have made some good friends & most importantly have now completed flight no 2! Just need to nail my take offs & landings, hopefully weather permitting, next weekend & I'm done! I've got all the gear now as well so the spending spree has thankfully stopped.
  5. Who or what is this Stickygrape?
  6. Just re-read mr free flys post & then watched the vids!!! What a terrible hypocritical Cnut!!
  7. Hi mate, Just sent you a pm with my phone number, give me a bell, I'm in Barnsley so can't be too far from you? Still a newbie but am starting training next weekend!!!
  8. Beautiful vid 8086, looks cold though! Music excellent too, what is it?
  9. Just wanted to bring this back to the top of the pile as I've seen a few newbies asking for advice recently. I'm just about to start my training after 12 months of research & talking to people but the books listed below have been invaluable: Powered Paragliding Bible - Jeff Goin. Pilots Weather - Brian Cosgrove. BHPA Handbook - Mark Dale. Even if you never take to the skies they're still a good read!
  10. Using the guesstimate at the higher end of the scale - 800 active pilots in the UK then that makes you guys (and me very soon!) a really unique bunch of people - just 0.00128205 of the population!!!!
  11. Posting back to the top, been to a fly in today & had a great day, is this still happening? Might even be flying by then!
  12. Hi Simon, based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, willing to help out wherever I can as ground crew, might be able to rope my brother in as well. Not yet flying but getting ever closer!!!!! Training blog to follow........
  13. Get me!! 6.7% smarter than average.
  14. The Jimmy Saville of paramotoring!! & I thought you were just being helpful Sticky!!!!!!
  15. Mark, That sounds really really good!! Please send a text to 07790 615983 so I've got your number & I'll give you a call in the morning to discuss if that's ok? Many thanks mate - you've been really helpful since I joined this forum!
  16. Hi Dave, Thanks for the offer - I'm interested but would appreciate your advice. Given that it's DHV2 rated would this make it an absolute nightmare to ground handle as a complete beginner? I would hate to buy something that would be difficult to operate & make me lose faith or would it be more the fact that if I learned on a DHV2 I could progress to fly on anything & be a better pilot for it? As I said - I am very interested....
  17. Thanks Morgy, that will open up my options somewhat.
  18. Dear All, A newbie quesion please; I'm looking for a ground handling wing to supplement my training through winter. Can I buy a normal paraglider (one that's not designed for ppg) to train with? Does a paraglider perform (on the ground)any different to a wing designed for power? It's just that I've seen quite a few cheap paragliders on flea-bay & being the miserly Yorkshire man that I am, I'm as usual trying to save a bit of brass. Thanks in advance.....
  19. Hi Allan, I'm in Barnsley, just a few miles away from you. I'm not yet trained but I too am looking for some local pilots. What stage are you at? Fully qualified? I've also tried to contact local pilots to no avail, I've also tried the Yorkshire Owls but they seem to be a dormant club. I have been in touch with someone off here called Pazza from Bradford but he's not yet qualified either but is furthe ron than me as he's got a wing & been practising ground handling. PM me if you'd like a chat or meet up etc.
  20. Many thanks gents, I'm just getting giddy, I've bought the bible 3, From The Ground Up, subscribed to Paramotor mag & all kinds of stuff but that was good advice - may be a good time to look for equipment & accessories rather than the actual gear itself. Hope you've not just bid on the paramotor I showed you!! lol
  21. Dear All, Can anyone give any advice on this paramotor & wing on ebay? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pap-Black-Dev ... 19d605fcde I am a complete newbie, approx 100kg so looks like it could be more than adequate for my weight. I haven't yet carried out any training whatsoever (apart from spending hour upon hour reading, looking at this website & gawping in awe at the vids on youtube) but was planning to do In March. If this was any good however I would probably be able to start training just after xmas & I feel it may be of benefit to train on the wing & machine that I will eventually fly without supervison. Your comments & advice would be greatly appreciated, please feel free to shoot me down on this - I will not go ahead with the purchase without some good advice from some of you experts. Many thanks in advance, Craig.
  22. Well done Lee, perseverance has really paid off. This is inspiring stuff & a great read.
  23. To coin a phrase I'm not particularly fond of; "This is doing my head in!" I've got the ppg bug, I've read loads of books, mags, viewed hours of footage, chatted to pilots at a fly in & have even had a bloody dream about it & I ain't in a position until next year to get started. The sky looks absolutely glorious this morning up in sunny yorkshire & if I was trained & had the gear I could have easily taken the morning off work to go for a fly. They'll all if's and but's but roll on xmas (the wife is buying me a ground handling wing) & March 2013 when I can go a get some training. PS - without opening the indy v bhpa argument again has anyone trained with AXB Sports in Doncaster?
  24. Cheers Gents - will order today.......
