  1. I made up my mind that if I couldn't buy new kit then I wouldn't take up the sport. This is as much to do with my technical skills as anything, I figured if I buy a decent new motor and not tweak it or fiddle with it then it should be reliable and it has been. Also of course I know exactly how many times its been bounced on landing and how hard, how much work the engine has done (I rarely hit full throttle even on take off) so there isn't anything I don't know about it. But thats just me, if I were forced into a corner I might have bought 2nd hand but I'd want the wing certified by the loft as safe and flyable and I'd replace anything on the motor that might be subject to fatigue, arms, crabs, buckles etc!

Each to their own I guess, Steve is down the road from you, he's a pretty good engineer and builds his own motors so a good chap to help you and advise you if you go the 2nd hand route!

I've just advertised a Pap Top 80 for a friend on here for £1900 if thats any use, you'll need to be sub 75kg though I believe!

  2. yes but aparently you still come down at a fair old speed, so i have read its like jumping off a 6 foot wall and with a machine on ya back i recon it will hurt,

then maybe, just maybe this isn't the sport for you, i carry a reserve but i don't believe I will ever use it or know anybody else who has BUT should I be so unfortunate to need it then I accept the fact that I might break a bone or two or I wouldn't go flying!

Why don't you carry one of those space hoppers underneath your cage and get someone to drive around underneath you in a flat bed truck with a foam pit on the back just to be extra safe?

  3. the problem is Leo is that you are not interested in anyone's feelings whether positive, negative or really really helpful, unless you hear the exact answers you want to hear you're not interested in anyone's advice so why bother asking

you sir in my opinion are a menace and a danger to the sport and the sooner you realise that then the safer it will be for all of us!

  4. how about a modified shopping trolley filled with the required amount of bags of sugar??

on second thoughts Leo, why not just go and jump in front of a train to get the same effect as what you are destined for but with much less cost, you'll save a lot of helpful people a lot of time too!

  5. kinda reminds me of when I was a teenager riding my fizzy, we used to get right behind buses and big lorries and the slipstream used to sort of pull us along behind it.

    Dave.

Snap! Although I never had a fizzer, had a bored out DT50 which almost kept up with them!

  6. I would worry about the aerodynamics too but my cousin was complaining about the smell of petrol in his car so I can see the draw. Mine lies down, complete, in the Transit van, but it stinks when you sleep next to it. But then, so do I, I'm told !

    Dave

I laughed out loud at that! :D

  7. Thanks Phil, yes you're right it is just too much seems to happen at once, take off used to seem like that until I cracked it and now it feels smooth and graceful. Last time I tried doing as you suggested with focusing on one point I suddenly realised I was about to hit the ground and was indeed still sat down and had the brakes hung up!! :D

Next time out will be purely landing practice!

  8. Hi Adrian

I'm just up the road from you in Chipping Sodbury, another chap Steve is the other way in Downend, then there's Chris in Didmarton and Paul from Bath and we all tend to fly together in the area, in fact one take off field is literally on your doorstep in Frampton End though its a bit tight for newbies so I've not taken off there yet. We're a friendly bunch and happy to show you what we do and the equipment we use etc but none of us are instructors so speak to Simon or whoever for that!

Give me a call anytime on 07894 707965 then I'll have your number and can give a heads up the next time we are flying!

    Cheers

  9. Malcom,

I think the landing issue has to be related to the active arm system which affects the brake steering when coming in and shuffling your bum out in preparation for the inevitable landing..........good or bad!!!!

    Mike

Nope, I'm just a cock basically! I'm not very good at working out my glide rate and lining it up by sight so I either come in way before the field or way after so now I tend to drive myself to where I want to be and then try to pack everything in to 4 seconds so just as I think to myself "I'd better lunge forward out of my seat and do a good flare", I'm already skidding along on my arse!!! I'm honestly not bothered though, it will all come together soon enough, I just seem to be slower than others, more likely a mental than physical thing!

I did slam in a bit hard the last time and had to pull the cage out a bit at the bottom but you'd never know it!

    Cheers

  10. a second vote for the Pap 125 from me, I know bugger all about engines or technical stuff but this thing is smooth as silk, reliable and starts first kick once you get to know the method, its even easier to start in the air but when you are frantically grabbing for it in a hurry it isn't where you think it is so best to have a little fondle around whilst it is still running!

In 11 flights on mine I have landed 10 on the cage (landing not being my strongest point) and it takes it nicely, couple of scratches is all!

    Cheers

  11. the site is GMT like lots of websites, at the moment we're in summer time so its GMT+1, you can't really change it because not every country in the world changes their times like we do.

I wouldn't let it worry you or think that you've been for a ride in a Delorean though! :D

  12. If we can camp then I'm not fussed - but booking the first weekend (if wet) gives us the second weekend as a backup

But obviously you can't expect them not to take any room bookings for the 2nd week on the offchance we might need it!

Makes no odds to me either as I shall be under canvas!

  13. Check Indian ebay, there used to be a chap on there flogging off old Lambretta and Vespa spares, had good feedback and most of his customers were Brits, I saw loads of really old ones still in use and in good condition when I lived there, they go for peanuts too!
