  1. Hi Guys I posted in the last post 'hard pull' that I am having the same issue. I have contacted HE paramotors and they have been ace, replied to my email in great detail and have sent a free gasket to me here in OZ. I am in need of your advice I have never taken apart a two stroke engine or any engine to be honest. I know my way around cars etc but have never gone this in deep with a engine. So my story like the previous post is my engine is nearly impossible to start via pull start when you remove the spark plug it becomes manageable again. Too much compression. Email from HE: For the problem you are experiencing with your engine, there are 2 sources: 1. This procedure is correct if your engine was easier to start to begin with and is now harder to start. The high compression can be due to the carbon residues accumulating on the cylinder top. These components are left over after each explosion. They accumulate and leave less room for the gases to expend (thus making the compression harder). For this particular situation, the solution is easy. Put the cylinder head back together (you will certainly need a new O ring vitton gasket). The pressure on the cylinder head bolts is 1.8Kn. Then make sure that the oil / fuel ratio is 2.5% (i.e. for 10L, you add 250ML of oil. You then have 10,25L of mixture). For the running in procedure this percentage is higher (3%). The running in procedure only lasts for 20L. After which you go down to 2.5%. 2. If your engine has always been hard to start (you haven’t noticed any change) then the factory compression settings are too high for you (some customers prefer their engines to hard to start because they want maximum power – competition pilots), then adding a base gasket between the crank casing and the cylinder is the solution. So manufacture have sent me a new gasket, I have removed with great care the head and I have been instructed to clean the head and chamber. Here is a few pics of the head removed: Fingers crossed the gasket will fix the issue Any tips or recommendations on the best way to go about cleaning the chamber and piston head. Thanks in advance. Darragh
  2. Hey Clive Have you contacted the manufacture about your issue. As you know we are having the same issue with a HE 120 paramotor. I got a reply this morning from HE which was a super fast turn around as I only sent it 5 hours ago ...... OK so we’ll send you a special gasket to lower the compression of your engine. The gasket is placed in between the crankshaft casing and the cylinder. It should do the trick. ................. My friend thinks there is a block somewhere in carb as no fuel is reaching the piston head. Its a bit of a learning curve for me but we are having a ratttle at it today. My friend who owns the HE paramotor broke his foot yesterday in work so he is out of action for the next 7 weeks so he doesn't mind that his machine is not working. Best of luck with yours, keep us posted on how yours works out. Dara
  3. Hey Powerlord I just saw your clip on you tube [youtubevideo] [/youtubevideo]Very impressive to say the least. Yes turning the camera on and off will have to do. Putting in the feature request to the go pro team can do no harm!! As most of my mates think I am bonkers putting on a large fan on my back and flying with the birds, I want to show them the most awesome footage. I am getting there not quite at your level yet.. 4. Hey farmer dave!! Thanks for the reply. A few questions. Sorry...But on the good side, if your motor's got that much compression, atleast it's not clapped out. Put a thimble full of petrol/oil mix down the plug hole and pull it a few times with no plug. How much is a thimble.. is this true. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_a_thimbleful This'll help if old oil residue was making the problem. When was it last run ? Engine is about a year old only about 10 hours running time. It was run last Sunday being used nearly every weekend for the last 10 weeks. Whats has causes the stiffness(bar the pun) Once again thats for the replies. Dara
  5. Hi Guys I am going to jump on this thread as we also have a HE paramotor which is also very hard to pull start in fact its near impossible.. It was getting harder and harder to pull but after a flight on Sunday it now near impossible. I have taken off the pull start and it seems OK it recoils OK, When I try to pull it with the pull start its now near impossible to pull, when I take out the spark plug it pulls no problems.. Any ideas the motor has about 10 hours on it.. I am sure I am not the only to have come across this.. Pete or anyone who has knowledge or experience with such issues. Thanks
  6. Cool its a good testament to the camera, Anything thats survives getting whacked by a prop doing a over 4000rpm and then falling around 900 feet to the ground gets my thumbs up. Only problem now he needs a new case!!!. For other go pro users may I recommend you save yourself some stress and get some of these for your treasured GoPro http://www.mytuffstuff.com/ Its basically on cover for the lens which if you managed to scratch you just peel off the protective cover no damage to the lens!!! Very simple idea but works. Only $15 including shipping not bad!! Hey Simon With regards your reply: If your filming one long clip... and you want to separate the clips for edit... Just put your hand over the lense for a second or two between shots. (the dark screen bits are easy to find in the raw footage) Not perfect but it helps. The idea behind the feature request is make editing for me allot quicker. Trying to edit a 4gig file on the average pc/mac is not fun if the source material/clip is lets say 15 min = 800mb 10min = 500mb 7min = 400mb The file sizes vary pending on setting used by your camera etc Editing a a 400mb file is much quicker than a 8 gig file!! What I would love to see as a feature request to the GoPro makers would be a new setting where I could get the camera to record a clip for example 5 minutes. stop record for another 5 minutes stop record for another 5 minutes and so on you get the idea. When I am up there in air I would prob use about 10% of the footage the rest gets dumped.. If i am being a numpty head and there is indeed a way to do this please let me know. Anyways just my input.. Darragh
  7. Camera 100% still works!! When we found it I thought no chance its game over for that camera. As I said we found piece after piece of the case then found the camera. I was hoping that the camera would have been running and we could have seen the final moments. It turns out my mate was turning the camera on to record when it feel from his helmet. Noted with regards attaching the camera with a backup cable or something to stop if falling from the sky should the 3m tape fail. I was going to email Go Pro with a FEATURE REQUEST to be able to set a video recording in either setting (r1, r2etc) to record 1min clip or 3min clip or 5min clip etc The reasoning behind this is because when we go for a flight, after a safely check I normally switch on the camera and just let it roll. On average a normal flight for us would noramlly take just under a hour. When we go to edit the movie becomes very time consuming editing a 8 gig file is not fun especially on poor little macbook. If the movie was recorded in short 1, 3, 5 min sections over and over again it would make life allot easier when I go to edit. I know you can cut extracts from clips pending on the software you are using. My macbook using Imovie takes for ever when editing. I cant be the only only who would prefer the movies records in sections rather than one massive movie clip. Getting back to my mate I suspect he was turning the camera mounted on his head on and off trying to record short clips instead of having a the one hour clip. I love the camera I think I was one of the first people to buy one when they first came out in the states, I like them so much I bought two!!!
  8. Last weekend me and my mate where doing some coastal flying, some of the best flying we have done so far. We where about flying at around 900 feet when my mate came over the radio and said his go pro camera was no more!! What happened was he was adjusting his Go Pro HD which was mounted on his helmet and it somehow managed to come free. It fell from his head rolled down his back straight into the prop which was doing a couple of thousand RPM.He said it just exploded into bits in mirco seconds. Luckily he was OK just a little shaken. The prop was cracked. He does have a net but the go pro went through it. He managed to land near launch site, he was happy to be on the ground. We went to the area to see if there was anything left of the camera. I found the first piece which was the tiny piece of plastic from the case over the next 20 min we managed to find most of the case all in bits!! Just as we where about to leave I spotted the actual camera at the foot of a bush. The camera was intact infact there wasn't even a mark. We could not believe it, mate was very happy to say the least. The camera managed to survive betting whacked by a prop spinning at a couple of thousand RPM then managed to survive a drop of around 900 feet. Big thumbs up to the Go Pro HD.
  9. Hi Stuart Thanks for the reply, I will have a look tomorrow but as its Sunday dont think I will get a new throttle cable for todays flying (old one has very little slack left) If any fellow polini thor owner would be so kind to show me a picture of there carb and throttle cable set up it would be great. I sort knew it was wrong but good to get confirmation from this site which I must add is a great place to get information, tips, help etc. Thanks again. D
  10. Hey Guys I have a few question for my fellow polini thor owners. I am still awaiting a follow up from the company I bought my polini from so I thought I would ask you guys for your input while I am waiting for a reply. Love the polini, think its a great engine very easy to start and has bags of power!! In my picture you can see the throttle cable attached to the carb, Have I got it on correctly!! It looks ok but there I am not 100% so I wanted to check. Also on the below picture I you can did a flight a couple of weeks back and gear valve rubber bit disappeared never to found again, has this happened any one else. And last but not least has anyone else had any problems with a leaky exhaust like mine. I was running it a little to rich which was sorted but I still got the leak. Finger crossed going to be doing some beach flying tomorrow with my mate. Thanks Guys and help would be great. D
  11. I got my polini from Clive, Top bloke went through everything with me. Even sent me a spare part half way around the world for free!! Drop him a email if your after a polini. Check out the videos he has posted of the polini. D.
  12. Hey all I managed to get a load of dirt (cow poo) on my wing. I want to wash the wing or parts which have crap on it, but a little nervious using chemicals on it. Was just wondering what is the best way to clean a wing. Also do any you use this on your wings http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/303-Aerospace-UV- ... 35ae144c1f Thanks in advance.
  13. Good to have you back.... The internet has not being the same without the site.

  16. Hi Guys I have recently received my brand new polini Thor engine. I have finally managed to get everything set up. Q. I got it running now problems but I have noticed a weird sound like ball spinning around a roulette wheel (only way I can describe it) Is this normal. Of course when you crank it up you cannot hear it. When the engine is switched off and I spin the prop you can hear the noise allot clearer. I don't think Its a broken ball baring but it does trouble me. Q. The gear oil. I read the manufactures manual and I contact my supplier and he informed me they are all shipped with gear oil. On the view hole for the gear oil I cant see nothing.. Another thing that bugs me. I realise that I could be just being a little over cautious but I wont be flying the thing until I am happy with it. Also any tips from other owners would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  17. Would be very interested too.. I got a polini thor with PAP style frame.. Thanks Darragh (Australia)

  21. Morning all I looking at ordering a spare wooden prop for my polini thor motor. I already have a helix carbon fiber prop. Q: Could somebody explain to me why it is important to get a prop with the correct pitch on the prop, also what has gear ratio got to do with it. I am new(ish) to paramotoring and I am not good with the techie side. I have asked a few people but seem to be getting hazey answers. Any information would be greatly appreciated
  22. [youtubevideo] [youtubevideo][/youtubevideo]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdeH2Cck3pc/youtubevideo]So close!!! A few more teaks and he is off. Any takers!!
