smaszczak
I have a simonini mini 2 motor with bing 84 carb that starts / runs great. Probably has about 40hrs on it. My only problem is after i have been flying for about 25-45 minutes when i land and my motor goes down to its normal idle my kill switch doesn't work and it takes what seems to be about 20-30 seconds before the motor shuts down. I have changed out my kill switch button thinking this was the problem but still have the problem. I have tested my kill switch while flying and the motor does react to shut down while i have some throttle on in the air. The problem seems to be after a period of flying, after i just land and motor drops to normal idle (it doesn't shut down for about 20-30 seconds). It seems as if i am pushing the kill button and nothing happens until this period of time... I have no problems shutting it down any other time. I use Amsoil for my oil at 36:1 mix ratio, my spark plug shows normal coloration on it and i have cleaned my carb. I don't know if this is an overheating problem or electrical problem. If anyone could help or has experienced a similar issue it would be greatly appreciated.
Farmer_Dave
Sounds a bit like your motor is suffering from something known as pre-ignition. Engine gets hot and glowing carbon deposits inside the compression chamber ignite the fuel mixture. Caused by poorly timed ignition and or mixture settings I think. That's a fairly rich oil mixture too. Could be where the carbon is coming from. Does it smoke much ?
pete_b
How many hours have you done? when was the last time you de-coked it?
smaszczak
It doesnt smoke anything out of the normal and i also pulled my exhaust off and peeked at the piston from the exhaust port. There is carbon but it appears to be normal from my opinion, but then again i am not a mechanic... What oil mixture should this be running on 32:1? Also i only have about 30 hours on the motor. When you say de-coked it, i assume you mean pulled the cylinder head off and cleaned the carbon off? that has never been done.
pete_b
30 hours it should be ok, depending on what oil you are using you can and I do run mine at 50-1 with no problems Have got the right spark plug in it? Is it running lean (have you done a plug chop) Pete

smaszczak
Pete_B - i havent changed out my spark plug which is one thing i intend to do . The problem is it runs great with exception to my problem. But i will do this. Dariuszk24 - This is good to know, but i dont have a tachometer on my unit. I am considering purchasing a cylinder head temp gauge to see if my unti is really running hot or not... I appreciate all of your feed back. smaszczak
Thats a great article pete_b, i really appreciate it. My brother has teh exact same unit and he hasnt had any problems with the highest octane gas we can find. I order a head temp guage so i will see what i am running at. Maybe i will contact Simonini also.
