bensd
Keen to hear people’s views on this? To me seems a bit too black. Moster 185 5 hrs, motul 710 at 2.5%.
Hann__
Yes, of course it`s black - Vitorrazi supply their engines with a rich (safe) factory carburetor setting to keep it cool and increase reliability at the expense of efficiency. You can keep it set as it is if fuel consumption is not a priority and just enjoy hassle-free flying or tweak the mixture to gain more flying time per litre if you have some experience in tuning carburetors and are confident that you are not going to do any damage by running too lean. A symptom of over-rich idle mixtures on the Moster though can be excessive vibration at idle ("four stroking") which can be a contributory factor to the infamous Moster exhaust breakages (probably only on the direct-driven non-clutched models?).
chrsfrwll
It does look a bit rich but you’ve only just finished running the motor in. Clean the plug up and run it some more. Better rich than lean at this stage, especially if it’s running ok.
AndyB
Did you run the engine at high revs for 20 seconds and then turn off immediately? This gives you a better indication of mixture.
