GUJONES
On a flight last week, my pull start cord was sucked into the prop. I'm assuming the recoil must have failed and it slowly released during the flight until it hit the prop. Gave me a bit of a fright mid-flight, but otherwise doesn't seem to have damaged the prop. Parajet V3 & Moster Plus Just wondering if anyone has experienced this problem before? Cheers, G
Steve
Was it a Flash starter? If so, loads of reports of this (has happened to me) on this site and others.
GUJONES
Yes it is a flash starter. I thought I had followed the instructions to start but maybe I've over stressed it. I've only flown the machine about 20 times.
Steve
They just fail eventually, no matter how carefully you use them. I bought a Briggs and Stratton lawnmower pull starter replacement - fifteen quid from Amazon. Much more robust.
allrightscud
I've heard of this happen a lot before. I have velcro on my frame and on my handle, this holds the handle in place for both finding it when starting on my back and helps it stay in place if it were to come loose. Its the weight of the handle pulling against the return spring which allows it to extend in flight.
Steve
Mine has always been on an elasticated cord but when the cord starts spooling out of the starter, because it has failed, then everything gets shredded in the prop. The first time it happened to me was on a landing approach.
