Hi as titled I’m looking for a strobe and without seeing one in person I think it’s hard to gauge how visible they are. I came across a microlight tonight coming towards me side on and felt like he was unaware of my position, however I could see his lights easily so turned away from him to give him the best chance of seeing me and then dropped altitude.
So does anyone have any recommendations based on experiences?Cost is not an issue I would rather spend money than try and cheap out and not have it as functional as it could be. It would need to be powered by battery.
Thanks
Andy

I have always wanted to fly since I was a kid. I had some fixed wing microlight lessons, Glider taster lessons and they didn’t really fit the bill of what I wanted. I saw someone flying a paramotor when on holiday in Cyprus and thought “that’s what I’m looking for” flexibility to store it at home and travel with my kit to different places and fly. Also I wasn’t looking to fly to get anywhere in particular but rather to bimble around and enjoy the view. So the slower speeds and ability to fly at lower altitudes than most fit the bill perfectly.

Hi Karl, as a biggish guy myself I was told by a some schools that I needed my own gear before I could fly however I found that this was not actually the case.
When I started I was 120kg and after some calling around I found Simon at paramotor training who was happy to teach me and also had the correct size equipment for my weight and a little more.
as far as wing sizes I do not feel I'm the correct person to help however you do need to add the equipment weight including wing and fuel on top of yours for the correct wing size.
good luck

Hi Keith and welcome,
i am just down the road from you at finmere. I have been training with Simon at paramotortraining and it's been great! A bit of travel time involved but your a little closer.
training costs are around £1000 lasts as long as you need, I had my first flight around the 7th day of training. I have had 15 flights now but still like a trip up to membury for a chat, have a fly and pointers.
kit depends on new or 2nd hand and makes etc so hard to say best to get training and get advise from you instructor on which kit would best suit you.
good luck send me a message when you have had training and we can go for a fly locally.

The moster 185 has more than enough power. My wing is a dudek universal 1.1 and it's a 31

Hi Daniel, welcome to the club.
Weight is not an issue when I started in July I weighted 120kg and there are plenty of options but it's best to get training first and your instructor will help point you in the right direction.

sounds good either way. I will be there

the new unit wont have had oil in like the old one so the noise could be different, if you shake the unit up and down does it make the noise? in the first video when you stop turning it the noise sounds like a bounce.
-
have you tried turning the pulley rather than the unit?
it clicks top end and bottom could it be a valve to stop oil running out when upside down?

I would guess different prop profiles? But interesting to find out

Hi Simon,
I am currently training with Simon at Membury and loving it.
I was in quite a similar situation to yourself, i was 120kg but have gotten down to 112kg and have no issues with the kit i did find a lot of instructors that would not take me on due to my weight but this is as they did not have the correct size wings.
I know that Simon does as i have been using them, and as far as engine size the moster 185 seems to cover most people from what i have gleamed from my training but these are things to talk to the trainers about.
Best thing is to give him a call and have a chat.
Good luck it is the best thing i have ever done! and met some really nice people along the way.
Hopefully see you soon.

That's pretty cool! the pulse tuning can be done with a with an exhaust like this although it will be limiting as far as power band size and also being quite loud due to lack of packing.

Hi Shane, having recently been where you are in terms of goals i booked with Simon in Swindon.
I run my own business so time off can be difficult, the beauty of training with simon (as i am sure it is with others) is you can do the odd day here and there be it weekend or more likely see that the weather is good on a particular day and running away lol.
Its really relaxed and you take your own time.
Also there are always people from all walks of life and also stages of their flying career so loads of info to gleam from people and watch different ways of going about things.
It has genuinely been one of the best things i have done in the 31 years i have been breathing! all i think about is when i can next get up there (its driving the missus nuts)
Good luck and hopefully see you flying in the future!

A little update, I have had two flights since my lovely display of control seen above.
you will be glad to hear that much improvement has been made and my feet were used instead of my arse!
really happy!

Hi Tom, I am based in buckingham and I'm currently learning in Swindon with Simon at paramotor training and would say it is definitely worth the drive.
the other school I found when looking which is a little closer is cm paramotor based in Leicester. I'm sure there are others but hope this helps.
good luck with your training.

Thanks smurff.
I can't wait to get back up and land correctly, even with the bump at the end of the day I loved the whole day and have thought of nothing else since!

Well the obvious one would be to flare a lot earlier and more. But given what happened I was a little shocked and did not react fast enough.
Nothing to do with the instructor, had my reactions been better there would not have been an issue, the weather/ wind on the day had been good for a long time before I went up but unfortunately changed just as I came in. Plus I'm a big boy and can except responsibility for my mistakes, the way I see it is if your going to do a sport like this although it should not happen every now and then extenuating circumstances will happen and most of it was my error/reaction time.

Always an easy way out lol. Some of us like to rough it

Definitely! That's all it needs but it has great potential and of course keeps your motor out of sight which would be a concern in a normal tent

One massive headache in the morning from the petrol fumes surely? Nice idea tho!

I am currently training with Simon and travelling around the same distance you would be just the other side.
The drive really doesn't feel that bad with the excitement for going! Good luck with the training it really is worth it I wish I had done it years ago.

Lol, being summer the next trip will be a basher and hammock

Thanks guys. Those led unit look interesting but I think something like the skyflar would be a better suit ready made plug and go. Any other options like this or someone that has a skyflar with a ‘review’?
