  1. there is an iphone app that is good with uk airspace being added to it

waypoints etc. airspace within a height range, that you may fly

XCSOAR and gpslog are good pda free sw.

  2. Hi Pete,

after Christmas - the sales will bring bounty no doubt.

some netbooks last an amazing 9 hrs.

make sure you buy one with the following

    1. Stated 6 hours or more battery = 3.5 in full power mode

    2. GPS they will all have it soon

    3. blutooth

    4. the all have wifi

    5. HDMI connectors for your flat screen tele output

    6. Very important running windows 7. its much faster than vista and XP even. but it will run everything.

    7. Very important reviewed with an amazing screen Viewable in direct sunlight- you are likely to be able to see F*&K all in direct sunlight thus relagating the device to performing late night favours. which is not all bad. woof.

    8. Optional flame retardant exterior :D

Consider going solid state. The Hard drive can't then fail if you should happen upon a tree whilst flying.

    I hope this helps.

  3. can you see your gps? from the PC

you need to confirm the comm port that the usb is assigned to.

    It could be comm1 - comm20

right click my computer - mange - device manager - ports.

to confirm the correct port - when in this screen plug in the usb cable.

this goes for anything serial attached.

  4. Hi Eddie,

Have you tried flying for a 5 minutes or more landing keeping the engine hot and seeing what the revs are on the ground again, to see if the are 8000 or 6500.

when you hold the machine on the ground at full revs keep it there for 40 seconds, kill it with the throttle pinned and check the plug.

At least you can confirm that the engine is running correctly.

    cheers Simon

  5. The smart Money is to try and ask, very Nicely if Pete B when next at lambourn can take a look at it for you.

My thoughts are that your engine has been tuned whilst cold.

it needs to be tuned whilst hot as that is how it will fly.

it is common for revs to be higher on a cold machine, lower when the same unit is warm.

The fact that the revs change between hot and cold should discount the prop as the problem

Cold air in a cold engine runs leaner, than the same settings when warm.

If I had to guess its worth checking if the top end is too rich, Pete may well say this is Baldwindash

Pete is to tuning what Christine Keeler is to high class hooking :D

  6. Due to a blip in my employment record. I may, am becoming free at the beginning of December.

    :dive:

    I was thinking

what if I jumped in my car and drove and drove until the weather was warm and there was some lovely coast to fly along. Maybe drive to a few Paragling lodges :acro:

If so maybe go to santander in spain and then south.

    or

DHL or whatever you guys recommend and send my gear out to a warm location and fly about abit.

unless, worst case, I get another job.

My thoughts were spain morocco canaries sicily - Tunisia is currently 26C

Does anyone have any ideas for solving this conundrum. I may go for a few weeks.

I just want cheap and dirty

your thoughts and experiences are much appreciated.

  7. Hello - just thought I would join in the bun fight - there is no doubt of the following

---Bignos must report his findings to allow us all to make more informed decisions

    ---Simon must protect his interest.

reporting ones findings and making recommendations are two different things.

An unmoderated forum is a disaster and so is an over moderated one.

    - Just an idea -

use the surrey dads guidelines idea and state in a sticky what is likely to get moderated / is acceptable.

Then if something is written that is in effect outside the guidlines it can be moderated to express the facts only - rather than the opinion with a note to re read the guidelines.

then the spirit of the post is not lost and the information is imparted - yet the risk of defamation is greatly mitigated.

  8. if it were a cold night? Would it be sensible to give a sheep a cuddle

they are warm blooded and furry after all.

Or would people there, think of you in a more strange light, than the general public, currently consider people who strap engines on their back and run with large kites for leisure purposes.

Just as strange if not more understanderable, yet full of common sensi

and I haven't even been drinking

  9. Tiny Tach is as Pete says the twin spark. if u search the site for tinytach, I did post the correct one for just such a purpose.

incidently the twinspark (redundant spark) is also used by the simonini mini 2 plus

    Simon

  10. Thanks for this whitters, looks great - I am thinking of adding temporary side tanks on the harness arms

please can you point me to the correct search terms for

for the pipe size and brass connectors and any other fittings.

also where can I get any straps from to hold in place, if anyone knows.

    many thanks

    Simon

  11. very enlightening Dan, I did not know that.

also bear in mind that that you will need less solar energy to produce the same lift as in summer, with a colder airmass to heat up.

  12. yeah yeah yeah

ok technically correct, although morally we have the win

next time dont invite me. My new line untangling / skipping rope technique, probably cost us an extra 1/2 hour to unravel over the normal preflight check time.

today looks good and the wind is in a sympathetic direction go for it
