  1. Posting here rather than paramotor videos, as its mostly not a paramotor video.. stu
  2. Lee: yeh - I'll give Clive M a bell tomorrow I reckon just in case he knows of any. stu
  3. I just had a chat with Clive Bunce (dudek distributor). He reckons report air is the main seller now - less 'wanting to turn' than the nucleon xx - until you want to turn then it's sharp enough. - apparently 'flatter in the middle'. pity it's not got a cooler name.. sounds like 'dudek mild mannered janitor'... i'd have prefered 'dudek deathmaster 2000' - sounds cooler anyhoo - feels like report air is more the wing for me. I'm not sure I want to part with >3000 squid for a new one though, much as I'd like a wing in custom st andrews flag colours.. so if anyone hears of anyone selling a 24 secondhand - do let me know...seeing as I don't go near facebook with a 100 foot long excrement covered stick, I might miss out if someone just posts summit there
  4. my worry about a 22 is that it'll take a bunch more throttle to stay level, and I'll climb slower. I love the ability to climb up and down quick with my reaction/aircon. i'd hate to lose that for the sake of a bit of speed. also, i average 3litre/hour on aircon/reaction - so I don't want to end up chewing through 5l/hour with a wing the size of a postage stamp. i suppose i'm a bit unbelieving that a 22m wing will give me the same lift as a 29m wing frankly. feels like a 24 puts me in about same loading place (about the middle) as my current 29s loading - so though it might be a bit slower, I'd take that for better lift. cas: I suppose if the report air lines are longer as lee says (good spot - missed that) - then that would explain it climbing more under power ?
  5. thanks guys. report air seems nice too. specs wise they seem pretty much identical ? https://www.dudek.eu/en/products/reportair.html https://www.dudek.eu/en/products/nucleon-xx.html other than the blurb - i'm not really clear on whats different between them tbh.
  6. So, after 10 years with my Reaction, I'm thinking of changing - and I like Dudek, so want to stick with them. I like the Nucleon XX - feels like I can get a significantly smaller wing, and get a bit more speed, etc. I'm 70kg, plus air conception, etc - so reckon on 105-110 all up. My Reaction is a 29 (95-125kg). For Nucleon XX looks like a heavy loaded 22 (85-120) or a less loaded 24 (95-130) are the options. Has anyone here got one, and what's it like ? what sort of cost are they ? And what do you reckon my Reaction is worth (good condition, services earlier this year by Aerofix). stu
  7. I've enabled everything that can technically be enabled. the fenix 3 has gps and altimeter. really, frankly there is very little changed from the 3 to the now 6 (released a week ago) other than heart beat stuff. hence my point that IF you fancy getting a great flying instrument, even if you just use the inbuilt stuff and not my app, or chose to pay for the french utter rip off copy of my free stufly all that is on garmin app store - 200 quid for new stock garmin 3 is a bargain imho.
  8. hmm. apologies i seem to have not posted last years. i thought they came out really well, but they've not hit the 'youtube algorithm' whatever that is... anyway maybe you'll enjoy: Glencoe:
  9. Pitlochry Schiehallion: Nevis attempt: and the USAF trying their best to kill me..
  10. Also just a note that the fenix 3 version is same as fenix 5 one. The watches are pretty much identical features wise. And u can get a fenix 3 for 200 quid on amazon. Whereas a 5 is 350. Im not suggesting people get a smartwatch just to run stufly but if you were looking for a cheapish smartwatch the fenix 3 is great. Mine is 4 years old and still fine. Battery lasts weeks.
  11. Ok, so app is updated. It might take a few days before it makes it into the app store so just keep checking. For the original app I've added the D2 Bravo, and for the 5* version of the app I've added everything that was compatible - which included the 935. StuFly Fenix 5,935,D2 Edition Paramotoring App: Compatible Devices: D2™ Charlie, Descent™ Mk1, Forerunner® 935, fēnix® 5, fēnix® 5 Plus, fēnix® 5S Plus, fēnix® 5X, fēnix® 5X Plus StuFly - Paramotoring App: Compatible Devices: D2™ Bravo, D2™ Bravo Titanium, fēnix® 3, fēnix® 3 HR Let me know how you get on. note though that you might have limited success testing on the ground - as it detects takeoff and starts doing stuff based on altitude difference so you might struggle to get that to work unless you drive up a hill or something. And sorry - tried adding vivo active but it's not compatible for some internal sdk reasons.
  12. Hmm.. I'll have another look guys and see if possible. When I started the app (4 years ago now) there only was the Fenix 3. It's not helped by the garmin SDKs being abysmal, so trying to get things working is a nightmare. plus as I've only got a Fenix 3, anything else I add, has only been tested on the simulator software - and I'm not sure how reliable that is. but it does appear that there are tons of very similar garmin watches out now https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/ So I'll have a look and see if it can run on any others. the main thing is the SDK version and the screen dimensions have to match exactly the fenix 3 of fenix 5.
  13. Just an update to say I've updated my app again. It's compatible with the Fenix 5 too, and I've added some new features. Free to use as always. https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/search?q=stufly
  14. haha. yeh best thing I ever did getting that air conception. touch wood - that's 2 1/2 years with no broken props, no nasty falls or heavy landings. I had light(ish) weigh pap top80 before but I was always running like buggery to take off in low wind. The air conception is definately the best paramotor I've ever had - everything is just a damn site easier when you've a comfortable light paramotor on yer back, but the power is there to take off quick.
  15. Dave: yeh I carry a stuff sack. forgot to video it. I've had some nice flights in the snow in december - sometimes you get lovely clean blue skies - just make sure you wrap up. Steve: you not flying paramotors now then ?
  16. Hi guys, just done a video I've been meaning to do for a while about safety equipment, and emergency services. maybe there's something in there you don't know ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H98F6UdOd74 And I'm just back from Scotland where I got some nice flights in. Here's one over the Cuillin mountains in Skye. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujWWJorf6tw atb
  17. Here's a few of my favourite pics from the last few years peeps.
  18. hey guys. quiet year last year. and maybe like some other folk - sick of the short days, dark all the time, miserable and cold of this time of year - kinda depressing. I dunno - I found myself watching my video from last year again and cheered me up a bit - that it's a new year - and anything can happen. all the best for 2019 to everyone. Me and social media are strangers in the night - I hate everything about it. And unfortunately as everyone else has got on the bandwagon it's left me a bit out in the cold the past 5 or 6 years with regards to other flyers, etc. I'm not standoffish - would just rather burn my eyes out with acid than do facebook... But I'm still flying, and still enjoying it. maybe there's others in the same boat ? I'd love to see a real paramotor holiday organised this year in somewhere like Slovenia again - that was awesome in 2014. Otherwise after 13 years flying now I'm sick of flying in billiard table suffolk - my flying consists of 2 weeks a year in scotland which can either be awesome (like 2017*) or mediaocre (like 2018*) and occasional flight around the billiard table - I'm almost stopped trying to tour around randomly in england and ask permission to fly as the answer is almost always 'no'... :-( stu **its all on my channel if yer interested. I'm most proud of this nevis video - which Ben Nevis Brewery should be using this year in their new visitor exhibition (thanks to gordon for the reference) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9n44SO2a2v8 **look for the 2018 ones: https://www.youtube.com/user/powerlord69/videos I went over turnberrry just after trump left for example last year (yeh I promise the guy in the news wisnae me), etc.
  19. I've updated the app I first built a year or more ago with some new features and finally got around to publishing it on the app store. https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/10bbeff2-2ab0-4e18-8bb2-b6a3fd808873 Instructions and tutorial video on there, as well as ability to download the app for your phone - though easier to just look it up on the Connect IQ Store through your Garmin Connect app on your android/ios phone. Hope some of you find it useful At this time - Fenix 5 models not supported - sorry. I may get around to adding support if I can be arsed. stu
  20. the grade on graded bolts are for tensile strength Vince. Not for shear load. afaik no bolts have a shear load grade. There are 'finger in the air' estimates for different material for what fraction of the tensile grade would be there in shear - but no agreed standard tests, no standard grades. Happy to be proved wrong, but that's my current understanding of it (from the interweb - im an electronic engineer, not a mechanical one so don't claim any expertise in the area that's for sure). And unlike tubular steel and carabiners, bolts don't tend to bend, twist or deform when they reach that limit - they snap. Plus, as I say, a safety strap protects not just against catastrophic failure modes like a bolt snapping, but also protects a bit from the most likely problem source - the pilot not checking the bolt was tight, etc. That's the far far more likely situation where a safety strap could save a life imho. With quick release arms of course, that's an even more likely occurrence - all it takes is a pilot to forget to put one nut on in the excitement of setup (and who of use hasn't forgot something one time or other), and it's likely to lead to a very very dynamic event which might be fatal. A safety may just help that situation be a little bit less dynamic, and be survivable. stu
  21. well, totally biased - but consider my Bailey V5 - still for sale - and at 2400 with 2 carbon props, a bit of a bargain I think. see ad in classifieds. stu
