Hi Dan,
Where are you in the weight range?
I think power off nil wind landings are most peoples demon and can be tricky after a long cold flight for sure.
If you have an injury to consider, you should look into when you can and can't fly V your skill set V your injury. Also it slows landings down ALOT when your in the top 3rd of the weight range. (without loosing any noticeable full fast speed.)
People seem to opt for a higher loading, for stability but the downside (talking mainly to the newbies here) is a faster take off and landing speed (during your learning phase of the first year / 50 hours)

Hi Simon
I'm on a 26 Revo2 and weigh 83kg (about 125kg all up). The range of the 26 R2 is 80 - 185, so I'm just under half way, which probably explains the higher speed.
It's a big fly/no fly deciding factor for me. If my back feels a bit stiff or susceptable, it's a no-go, 'cause I know that I'll regret it when my back goes and I can't fly for a couple of weeks.
This growing old lark f****n' stinks
Life's like a bog roll. When it's new you think it will last forever, but when you're half way through it seems to run out really quickly
Ta for your much appreciated words of wisdom

Unfortunately you need nerves of steel after a longish flight when the ground suddenly rushes up at you, and I tend to 'bottle it' and start applying brakes a bit early, leaving me less in reserve for a decent flare and run off. I understand the perceived 'ground rush' effect and guess its just a confidence thing in having faith in the wing, but the glide ratio when landing is half that of my PG wing, despite what the brochure says...
Completely relate. My experience exactly, even the shorter take off!

That is a crackin' video!
It illustrates your pointers superbly.
All advice taken onboard with much appreciation.
I think the problem is that, as a novice, I think everybody will be as enthralled with my flying experience as I am, and that is clearly not the case. Watching your video, I get this now.
Thanks very much.

I find exactly the same with my Revo2. I guess you can't have it all ways. I was very happy with my average 30mph speed and 50mph top speed the other day, but the nil wind landing, as you describe was very fast.
For me with my dodgy spine, it presents me with my lower backs worse case scenario ie being sat still for around 50 minutes then suddenly having to hit the ground running with almost 50% extra weight to bear.

Not boring at all Dan, keep them coming
I feel the need to at least see some flying on the monitor, as I am not getting any airtime at the moment because the weather is rubbish
Have you got a spare room
Are there any more PPGers in your area
Cheers,
Alan
Thanks Alan.
There are a great bunch of 5 or 6 Spanish PPG's in the immediate area, but no English. Not such a bad thing as it makes me practice my Spanish.

You may already know about this, but it really helped me this morning with correcting the aspect ratio on my uploaded video.
You simply type in one of the following into the tag section:
yt:crop=16:9
(zooms in on the 16:9 area, removes windowboxing)
yt:stretch=16:9
(fixes anamorphic content by scaling to 16:9)
yt:stretch=4:3
(fixes 720x480 content that is the wrong aspect ratio by scaling to 4:3)
yt:quality=high
(default to a high quality stream, depending on availability)
....and finally, another video from Spain. Sorry if they're getting a little boring, I'm still in the novelty stage and trying to get better at the PPG video lark.
(any constructive feedback more than welcome, as you tend to get a bit blind to your own mistakes
)
[youtubevideo]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FU2XOkY1uvs[/youtubevideo]
(as always, switch to 720p or 1080p, full screen, and let it buffer for about 5 minutes for a smooth viewing)
Cheers

Hi.
C'mon guys.
We want a wing that is fast for A to B, and we want a wing for easy take off and landing (slower). Everything has a trade off in aviation.
I havn't flown the Revo 2, however feel that a bit of two handed fiddling for pre landing is not a big deal for a wing with a great speed range.
Alternative is buy 2 wings, slow and fast and hope your flight plan for the day coincides with the actual weather £££££?????.
For such a minority sport I am amazed we have such a choice in equipment.
Thanks go out to the people who design and produce the equipment that allow us this magic of freedom of flight in this basic and special form.
Regards.
I was definitely not complaining about my wing. As I said I absolutely love it to bits. After all, it takes in its stride all of my beginners cockups without any fuss, and as a result it inspires confidence.
If I had to make a choice between slipping trimmer buckles or very firm trimmer buckles, i'll go for the latter any day.
I simply wondered if I was doing something wrong.
Happy camper

This can introduce power surges if you are holding some throttle in your hand whilst adjusting, plus a bit of weight shift which can all make things a bit 'wobbly'.
That's exactly what happened!
You're right, it's not brilliant for a beginners wing. However, I love my Revo2 so much, that I am willing to overlook this and put it down to something that will ultimately make me a better pilot.
Brake handles modified after a chat with MCJ.
Deano suggested twisting the risers near the buckle as you pull, which should help open it.______Pascal said to use a short sharp tug.
______Emilia said it will be less of a problem once the trimmers wear in .....
Will try a combination of the 3 tips
Thanks for the help

All sorted, pictures posted. Thanks Alan and Simon.

All look really good, only thats scary is the 7th down
That's what my wife said

Can you qualify:
Need two hands
feeling sick
That is, one hand per trimmer or two needed for each??
2 needed for each
If the latter, then perhaps your setup requires inspection and adjustment as one hand should be all that's required for each side either letting trim out or pulling it in.
When I try to pull trimmer in, the riser pulls down instead even though I am squeezing the clip
Feeling sick may be attributed to your comfort level playing with trimmers or how they were applied (quickly, one side at a time).
I ended up feeling sick because the air was lumpy and I was struggling to adjust the trimmers
It is often (and aptly) suggested that trimmers be left alone without 100m or more of air under you. Many don't adhere to this, but that comes with comfort and accepted risk. Generally adjustments should be incremental as it does take time for the wing to stabilize for a given setting. Zipping in or out fully can lead to a zippy elevator effect in either direction and yes, can be indeed unsettling if you are not expecting it. Lift traded for speed removes some G for a bit, and conversely pulling in trim quickly will decrease sink rate and make you heavy for a bit when applied in large amounts. A side at a time would make for some rock and roll crab action no doubt. That would explain the motion sickness. I feel a bit sick just reading this (what a wimp
)
If you're using two hands per side, you're likely introducing some weight shift into the mix too.
If so, something's wrong with your setup, buckles, or something else.
Not saying it is without your qualification, but never heard of two hands needed per side.
It is mentioned in another thread

Cheers for the advice, appreciated muchly

It's probably a bit of a fundamental question, but I don't know the answer, so I'll ask anyway
Is it normal to need two hands to pull the trimmers in for landing etc or is it just my particular wing (Revo2).
I've just started to experiment with the trimmers. My training didn't include anything about trimmers, so I'm learning as I go along.
However, I made myself feel really sick the other day trying to pull the trimmers back in.
Any tips?

Whilst I figure out how to post photos, here's the movie...
(as per usual, watch on YouTube at 1080p, but let the whole thing buffer, blah, blah, blah)

Dan, can you copy the web address from your pictures on Picasa ... http://blah....blah..., right click on the photo perhaps?
If so, paste it into your post, highlight it, then click on the Img button, job done.
If you can't get the address you could use photobucket to host you pics. Looking forward to the pics,
Cheers, Alan
Hi Alan
Thanks for your help, but that was the first thing I tried. What I get is a box with image written in it and a red cross ie it won't display the image.
Not sure if this is a setting I need to change on my pc?
Thanks Simon
Only problem with this, is I'm being asked to crop all of my photos, which if I have to I will, but would rather not
The message says: The image must be at least 0 pixels wide, 0 pixels high and at most 1200 pixels wide and 1200 pixels high. The submitted image is 1600 pixels wide and 1027 pixels high..
Any way raround this?
Sorry to be a pain

Sorry to seem dumb guys, but can someone spell out to me exactly how to get a series of pics to display in a post. Not a link, but an actual picture.
I have a Picasa web album account with my pics on it. If I cannot get my images to display from Picasa, which online album do I need to get.
Tell me like you're telling a 5 yr old ie point by point, 'cause I've been trying for 20 minutes (concentration span of 5 yr old
)

Nice bit of editing Phil.
Not that I'm an expert, but I know that although the end result makes the whole process look a breeze, that actually it takes a lot of time and patience to bring all that raw footage together into the length of one song.
So, well done you.
Thanks for sharing
Cheers

I thought it was the computor that played the files......its just that I have purchased the wrong laptop......the camera is the bollocks......
http://www.oregonscientific.co.uk/cat-O ... -Unit.html
I like the fact you can see what you are aiming the camera at..using the built in LCD....
...I like the fact I can play back the footage ....to see what I have just got and delete if its crap (it usually is).....
I like the fact the waterproof remote has all the controls as well so you can switch between video and stills if you want ....
oh and I like the little lazer light that comes out the front to show its about to switch on and record so even when its up in the wing you can see if its on or off....
its just that it produces the wrong ....F ing ......file for my lap top
Can you post some footage to see the quality
-
I had big problems with my files with my new ATC9k (better than the gopro)..but it would seem the file as it comes from the camera cannot be edited with any windows software.....
my mate (whos in the know about these things ) gave me a link to some free software that converts virtually anything to anything...
I just load all my req to be converted files....to it ...tell it the req output type ..and go to Bed and hey presto next morning everythings done....ready to edit....its what mates are for
That definitely sounds better than my GoPro which just plays all my files straight away.
How boring, and I've got nothing to look forward to in the morning

You watch, he'll probably be President one day.
Wacko country, wacko citizen!

Beautiful, beautiful weather.
You're making everybody envious, the weather is rubbish here as well
.
I'm sure I speak for everybody to say how good it is to see you in the air.
Wonderful beach, didn't seem to be many people on it.
Cheers,
Alan
Thanks Alan. It sooo nice to finally be flying.
The beaches here are great in the winter, as in empty
It's a bit different in August

There is one thing in PPG that you can rely on that will definitely occur. Your engine will stop sometime and probably sooner rather than later. I’m sure you had an eye on suitable sites for landing at all times, I know I would.
You're absolutely right Whitters, there was about 5 minutes where I thought if my donkey packs in now, it could get interesting
Apart from those precarious few mins, there are more golf courses than you can throw a stick at around here.
Cheers for the concern.
ps finally found the right setting to edit the video in HD (i've redone it so it should go full screen without stretching the aspect ratio)

Went to the beach the other day...
[youtubevideo]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlq5ukJq24A[/youtubevideo]
Better to watch in YouTube at 720p and go put kettle on while it downloads. It's sooo slow!
I learned that the 4:3 setting on the GoPro doesn't really suit paramotoring. My little girl excitedly said "look daddy, you can see the shape of the world"
Really enjoyed the flight though.
Hope you enjoy.

I printed out this thread and took it to Pierre Aubert at PAP earlier today.
I was interested to see his reaction, and I have to say that the man impressed me. Maybe I'm biased because I know him, he's a good man and I like the fact that he is trying to push our sport forward. He was very humble about the ongoing developement of his new range and fully acknowledged that there have been some problems which the team have worked tirelessly to solve.
I think you will all agree that PAP has earned itself an excellent reputation over the past couple of decades and ranks as one of the worlds top paramotor manufacturers. This could not be possible without some real innovative passion behind the company and Pierre is at the heart of it.
However, class leading paramotors don't just appear, they evolve over a period of time, ironing out problems as they arise.
Most importantly, problems that are identified must be acted upon and rectified swiftly, the agents also need to react just as quickly.
Based on my experience with my PA125, I cannot fault the service that I have recieved. The modifications that have been necessary have been carried out expeditiously and with great attention.
Gary I think you have been particularly unlucky and it's a good job that you have a lot of experience that allowed you to pilot your way out of the mire. However, as you said right at the start of your post, maybe you should have waited until all of the teething problems have been ironed out.
Also, I agree with your title, I really do think that we are unpaid test pilots.....I think it's part of the thrill of our sport. Much rather this than flying a boring, safe Cessna that you are not allowed to tinker with.
