So far a have asked a farmer who I already have ties with (shoot on his land), another farmer local to me and Thurrock rugby club who have enough land in the form of 3 rugby pitches to take off from. The general reply I get after asking them is "I'd love to help but my insurance won't permit as we are not covered for that" What I want to know is is this a common problem and is there anything I can do to over come this problem. I am happy to sign a disclaimer or come to an agreement over "liability" if anything went wrong. This seems to be the only thing stopping people saying yes. Hi Stu, its a problem thats becoming all too familiar, there are two ways to get insurance, through taking a BHPA rating or you can register your wing with the CAA, around £88 I think, and then a company called traffords will insure you, around £125 a year I think. Looked at it on google and would be perfect. In the process of finding and talking to them But finger crossed its a possibility. ptwizz Posted June 6, 2012 Share Posted June 6, 2012 Is the individual pilot's insurance enough to address the perceived issue here? The landowners are telling you that their insurance won't permit. I came across a similar situation some years ago with off-road trials driving. Some landowners insurance would be invalidated if they allowed any part of their land to be used for any form of motorsport. And thanks for the offer on coming down. May well take you up on that. I'm trying to find something local aswel. I was flying micro lights a few years back but had to stop due to money and also the constant traveling. started paramotoring for the cheapness and simplicity so really want a field local for those quick summer evening bimbles!!! Stu, another way you mite want to try finding a field, is look for a field where they hold boot sales, these are normaly large flat fields and are only used one day of the weekend, it mite be worth approaching the landowner/farmer and asking if you can use it the alternate day. I know its not exactly on your doorstep but theres a airstrip at barleylands, the farmers brother used to fly a microlight from there some years back but no longer does, I did find the farmers house but he was away in spain at the time, never got chance to go back, if you want details of how to find the farmers house let me know. Just got 3 foot of hay on it at the min and the other field we walk through has got 4 foot of rape on. Farmers can be a really selfish bunch sometimes. Should think of paramotors once in a while.
