  2. Hi all, looking for some help/ideas on diagnosing engine outs I've been experiencing. Here's a bit of history and work that's been done so far. Just before experiencing these outs the gasket on the muffler had perished so that was changed - used exhaust sealant (was previously the paper type gasket - could be an issue?) The next 3 launches following this I had an engine out within 1 minute - this seemed to be because of excessive air in the lines. I changed all fuel lines and removed the primer bulb completely (opting to breathe into the tank to get pressure to prime instead). This solved the engine outs on launch. Could no longer see air in the lines and engine running fine on the ground and take off. I'm experiencing engine outs after 5-10 minutes. Two flights yesterday, engine out 5 minutes in on the first and 10 minutes in on the second. Leading up to these two engine outs I was cruising/maintaining altitude and then wanted to gain height. Applied more throttle and felt like I wasn't getting the power. About 5 seconds after trying to apply full throttle the engine died, like it wasn't getting the fuel or air in the line. I was told to run at 3% mix but have since found out that everyone else with these runs at 2.5% so was planning to switch after I'd used the fuel already in the tank. Any ideas? Things to try/look for? Carb kit on the way and going to replace the filter in the tank.

  4. Thanks both, I'm flying an older low hang point but the brake lines have been checked and are fine. I've been very conscious of making sure I've not been using any brake on launch too just to check. Other than this it feels wonderful in the air without issues but I'm starting to think you're right and there might be some shrinkage somewhere. Going to send it off for a service...

In the time the weather has been unflyable, I've been spending my time working on some software to help me track my flights, equipment, maintenance, etc. I've been using this myself for a couple of months now. As well as generally tracking my flights I've also been using it to track any maintenance I've done, which has already been useful in tracking down subsequent issues I've caused from the maintenance (note to self: get better at looking after my motor!). I've started to add the ability to share my flights with friends and adding the ability for other people to use the software. In the next 3-4 weeks I hope to be able to open this up for others to use. This will be opened up to 10-15 beta testers first for a couple of months before I open it to everyone.   6. Hi all, I have a new, to me, wing (Niviuk Link), which so far I’ve only been in conditions for a forward launch. On a forward launch with little to no wind I’ve had the trims at their mid point, which has been perfectly fine. With nil wind I’ve got off the ground easily. I did some kiting recently in stronger winds and practiced some reverse launches. I found that I had to have the trims all the way out otherwise it just wanted to fall back very quickly (even in 8-10mph with trims half in). Anything I could be doing wrong? Will this be ok getting off the ground/is it normal? Anyone else with a LINK, what trim settings are you using? Previously on an EZ Lift, never had to adjust trims in either condition...

  12. So, I've completed my training and can confidently get in the air and land without issues. I've had practice with navigation and have done a couple of XCs. I'm constantly trying to improve my launches in different conditions and working on landing accuracy. As much as it's enjoyable being up in the air seeing the views and taking in the feeling of flying, I don't want to "waste" my time and not improve. What suggestions do you all have for things to practice? I'm not talking "big ears" or anything that I should be talking to an instructor about. I'm looking for suggestions around landing patterns, accuracy, drills to practice in flight, turns with/without power, etc, etc to try and improve my flying and not just "float around"
  13. Hi all! I'm working on a little project between flying and I'm looking for an exhaustive (or as close as) list of motors, frames, harnesses and/or manufacturers. Does anyone know of such a list or an idea of where to start? Preferably not involving trawling through various dealer websites
  14. Who knows what the requirements are for insurance if I become a paid up PMC member? I'm new to paramotoring, I haven't had training from a "school" but have had training from a local experienced pilot. I'm 6 flights in and continuing to be trained by him until I'm comfortable.
  15. Just curious, this hasn't happened to me. You should always test the kill switch before flight to make sure it works. What do you all do to then power off the motor?

    thanks The area on RunwayHD looks bigger than a 1.5nm radius, any ideas why? Say I wanted to to fly to Goathland, how would you do that? Or would you not?

    I'm learning/trying to interpret airspace charts and came across this. "High Intensity Radio Transmission Areas Fylingdales - Aircraft should not remain for more than one minute within 1.5NM radius up to 8000FT ALT" Can someone tell me what this means, practically, for someone with a paramotor?
