Sorry which helmet do you have Andy? The Microavionics?
-
Ps as I understand it you can hook up Bluetooth devices to the PM100 (with one of their accessories), but it doesn't do Bluetooth pilot to pilot Comms. Which in the real world is probably less reliable then one would like it to be? Not having tried it of course....
-
Thanks Andre.
Why did you choose the Scarab over the seemingly-very-popular Solar X, and why the PM100 over a Bluetooth solution like the Sena units?

Interesting, thanks chaps. I still haven't figured out the best option for me. Has anyone tried the Microavionics integral helmet?

I've spent a long time researching Sena based headset solutions and I wanted to give Microavionics a decent chance too, but I'm getting a bit confused between the ULM and PM100 units. Can someone give me a quick rundown on the different headsets they make? Edit: looks like it's just the PM100 I'd be looking at...?
I'm not too worried about Bluetooth intercom but would like 2m radio and Bluetooth for phone and music....
Also interested in people's opinions on their kit of course. In terms of helmets for example, what they look like is the least important thing. Comfort and safety are top, and I can't help thinking that - if something should happen that makes you grateful that you were wearing a helmet, you'll want it to work perfectly and not have cameras and radios and batteries stuck all over it...
Thanks

Well if someone tells me how to upload a second photo I'll show you the narrow one..

Hmm, I can't upload the second photo, not enough allowance left.

I had a couple of hours spare this morning so knocked on a few doors and to my amazement a local farmer and his wife were more than happy to let me use their fields. At one point during the discussion I said something which made one of them say "Oh - so they have a motor then?" at which point I thought it would be game over, but when I said "Yes" she replied "How exciting, that sounds like terrific fun". I'm really astonished - I was expecting the first 99 requests to be turned down flat.
Anyway - I guess I need to get someone experienced round to see if they're really suitable, or I could upload a photo of each field to the site? Might be better than nothing... One of the fields is narrow and lines with trees but if the wind blows along the length (which it was doing today) that might not be too much of an issue... The other currently has cows in it but they're not always out there apparently.
What do you guys think?
-
Obviously there isn't the height issue - and presumably you're not going to fly into a tree - but you could do yourself some damage hitting the dirt at 20mph with a motor on your back, I reckon. And that prop will be spinning pretty fast...
I guess if you're experienced enough to be attempting to do it, you might be able to pull a bit of brake if the engine sputters, and get a little clear of the ground..? Then what?

Effingham Common is very local to me. If that were viable it would be really convenient.....

IKR! Richmond Park would have been great.. although with that said, even better would have been somewhere with a flat field & parking with no fences right on/next to the field. It seems relatively speaking much easier in USA than here in the UK, I guess because there are larger spaces & it's less densely populated.
If u found anywhere near Richmond to safely take off, please let me know.. as I'm moving there soon.
I think we need to make a concerted effort to get some more sites in the area.. I've already knocked on a few doors (near Farnham, Surrey)

This is probably a silly question, but why do the Parajet specs give a thrust figure of 58kg for the Zenith and 68kg for the Maverick, both with the Moster 185 Plus?

Have sent you a PM

How are the sizes calculated? In other words who would this fit?
Edit: ah OK it's the biggest one they do...?
-
Thanks for the responses everyone.
I'm not really talking about simply managing to get into the air and back down again without major trauma. It's the same with motorcycling - you could climb on a bike once a year and you wouldn't fall off, but you wouldn't be safe. You'd be rusty. You'd be out of practice in terms of hazard anticipation, proper road positioning, safety checks before and during, handling in bad weather (wet manhole covers etc).
Paramotoring MUST be the same, surely. If you don't fly enough you'll get out of the habit of, say, keeping track of the wind on the ground: looking for posts / wires; scanning the skies; trimming correctly and everything I haven't a clue about since I have never flown.
Someone out there must get what I'm on about.

Those can't be any sort of official number for hours needed to maintain a license. I must be totally misunderstanding your answer?
Plus I was talking about flying paramotors, not fixed wing or rotary wing
Confused
-
Wut?
Those sound like some sort of (completely daft) official number - what I meant was - what is the figure below which you're really not going to be making any progress and in fact you're going to be so rusty every time you fly that you're on the wrong side of the danger curve...
-
Does anyone have an opinion as to the frequency of flying needed to stay safe and / or improve?
I presume it's like motorcycling - if you're doing below a certain amount you won't be as safe as if you ride frequently...?

What you don't see in the video is that I suddenly dropped about 10 feet up and didn't react fast enough. But hey I learnt a lesson and know what to do next time
What would you do differently next time then?
Microavionics? And helmets.

What I don't understand is - Icaro say you must not wear a headset under their helmets, because it comprises safety but Microavionics say you can. What's that all about then?
