  1. Hi Frazier

I have a Suunto that I have been using but I was given one of the £24-95 'Ski Pro'watches that are sold in LIDL stores.

I am very impressed and it is more than adequate for keeping an eye on your altitude which you can set at take off or ASL.

Compass is good too and it tells the time!

    Cheers

  2. Hi Togsie, thanks for the link.

I have the aviation maps and can read what the symbols mean by looking at the bottom of the map. However, there was a detailed explanation put on the forum of what all the symbols and abbreviations mean.

That is what I am looking for if any one can help.

    Cheers

  3. Hi Frazier

I fly a Revo 30 and think it is a great wing.

Is there a reason that you went for the Genie instead of the Revo?

It seems a bit odd that everybody advised you that the Revo 28 was the perfect wing and you bought something else.

  4. I found that when I was using my Motorbike for commuting in the Winter it was noticable that if I put my gloves on when I started out (and my hands were warm) I could do a 80mile commute and not get cold hands at all.

However, If I stopped at the services for a break and took my gloves off my hands would be freezing cold for the rest of the journey which bears out what Simon is saying.

I am not against heated gloves and if they work then I would get some myself but they just seem a lot of trouble and something else to complicate things!

  5. What a great response to, what I thought, would be an easy question!

Loads of great ideas and I am sure that between us we will find a cheap option for a ,reserve, light or better.

Meanwhile I would like to wish everybody (except the scum that stole Pete's equipment) a great Christmas and a Blue sky new year.

    Cheers

  6. A lot of good ideas on this subject (particularly Simons idea of stocking up on fuel tanks!).

    Ben/Woody

If I were to be prepared to fit a float switch (or switches) in my tank can you advise what I would need for the LED part, ie battery, LED, resistors, wiring diagram etc.

    maplins numbers would be great.

    Cheers

  7. Gordon

I think you will find the primary reason for putting TTS into a 2 stroke engine is for lubrication!

However, I am worried that the fuel in my tank is'nt very red and may need some more TTS in it.

I don't think you should be flying after 3 hours in the pub either! LOL

Thanks everyone for all the tips, I will be sorting it out over the next couple of weeks and let you know how I get on.

I still think that the more indication that you have of any problem the better, just try not to rely on the leds but I will feel better having the indication that will give me a bit of time to sort out the landing.

  8. We seem to have gone off subject slightly!

The thread was to build a fuel level indicator as cheaply as possible.

I appreciate Gordons concerns that we should all be aware of what we are doing in the air and that we should be more alert to our fuel consumption.

However, I need glasses to read but not to see any distance so to check my fuel I would have to get out my glasses, and try to look into a small piece of mirror at a clear fluid in a opaque plastic container and work out which 'litre' mark it was at!

The alternative is to have a LED indication as to the 'spend rate' as I fly.

I see no problem with this and at the moment, I am thinking of using 3 float or optic switches set at possibly 6, 4 and 2 litres (not decided yet) with a LED indicator for each one. The float switches would probably need a voltage stabiliser

to stop the LEDs going on and off as I fly through any turbulance.

Ben, can you let me have the RS part numbers for what you have found please.

    Cheers

  9. Some great ideas. I love the Micro fuel gauge Mike.

We need to put our ideas together and find a cheap way of doing this. I can put a float switch in that will tell me when I am at a specific point in the fuel cycle very cheaply (as per Phil) but we need to monitor all the time. The option is to put 3 or 4 in connected to seperate LEDs or optic switches but that is also expensive.

I can get a row of LEDs from Maplins to use but the variable tank sender units are too expensive.

The electrode idea sounds good if we can get more info (Ben).

This is the best think tank for Paramotoring so lets have any more ideas and I am sure we will sort it.

    Cheers

    Eddie
