  1. Mine was really weak and would fall out by itself. The pulley is off a boat and is not really fit for the job in my opinion. I have found a site that sells the r clips for 20p each min order of 10 so i wont need to worry about spares! http://www.boneham.co.uk/shop/product/r ... less_steel
  2. The pin has fallen out that holds my starter pulley onto the frame for the last time. At the moment I have replaced it with some twisted wire. Has anyone had the same problem and got any better suggestions to secure it?
  3. I did exactly the same thing with my e-prop. I quickly noticed when i tried to start the engine and the prop hit a bolt sticking proud of the engine and chipped the prop Now i always check both bits of the prop have "e-prop" facing me.
  4. I only have a small Berlingo and it was taking me far longer to setup and breakdown compared to my friend with normal cage quarters. I then had the opportunity to buy a V5 frame second hand so thought i would swap my engine and see if i prefer it. There are pros and cons to both, on balance i will probably keep it in the Bailey frame as i mainly do XC flights. The Zenith is more agile and offers more weight shift than the Bailey but the Bailey is more comfortable for longer flights. Mainly it was due to being bored over winter
  5. That's what I thought thanks. My backup plan is using one of my 3s lipos from my models. 2.2amph should do the trick. After an hour other things will be getting cold!
  6. After a painfully cold flight I have decided I need some electric gloves. Is it possible to take a 12v feed from my Bailey engine? If so could it provide the 2.2amps I need or am i stuck with batteries for the gloves? Ta, Paul
  7. I have just moved my Bailey engine from a zenith frame to the bailey v5 one and i weighed it as 28kg with oil in but now fuel or reserve. What surprised me is its 3kg lighter than when it was in the zenith frame.
  8. Bit late replying but I did a full 2 week course in April last year going from no experience to CP level. I fully recommend them, PM me if you want more info.
  9. Thanks Alan, much appreciated. Another quick question, where do you place your reserve? My Zenith had a container built into the harness on the right hand side. I have a Supair container which I have currently mounted on the tight clipped onto the side of the frame and the harness. I know some people use them as a flight deck but i already have one which i find handy for stowing my camera etc. My only concern about having it on the site is causing a slight turn from weight shift and the straps rubbing against the webbing of the harness.
  10. I have just swapped my V5 engine from my Zenith frame into a V5 frame and have a newby question. It is unclear in the manual how the harness attaches to the swing arms and carabina? Does the strap from the harness go through the carabina as a backup? I have attached a pic to show the bit i mean.
  11. I just thought i would add my support for Bailey. I have just been there today to fix my V5 engine. Paul responded via email and i got it booked in within a week of contacting him. The two chaps there are working flat out knocking out new Matrix frames with frames parts everywhere. Anyway they fixed my problem in 30 minutes and even did me a mini service as part of the work. Very happy chap!
  12. I took my motor to Bailey today and they fixed in 30 minutes. The issue was the o-ring between the cylinder head and intake manifold was missing. This resulted in it drawing in too much air on tick over and leaning the mixture to the point of causing it to stall. At higher revs the extra air did not matter as it was very small as a proportion of the air coming in. They also did a mini service and checked the carb over so i am good to go and cant wait until the next flyable day. Thanks all.
  13. It still posts yes however last time i did not know that so i hit the back button and then submitted it again thus double posting.
  14. Yep i am getting an SQL error when i post however it does post okay so if you refresh it double posts (i will take a screen grab and post it).
  15. Hi Mark, Thanks as always. This post is a follow on from your suggestion about the idle jet as its taken me this long to get around to striping the carb down. Living in Lancashire i don't want to keep bugging you with my problems as i cannot even buy you a beer I will drop Paul an email, my inlaws live in Norfolk so dropping it off with him to repair is not a big issue but hopefully he has some ideas.
  16. No ridicule from me, i am happy for any suggestions. The carb does not have any manufacturers markings on it (that i can find) but i think it is a Keihin Cvk 26 however i guess it has been tuned by Bailey. The strange thing is it has plenty of power it just wont hold its revs on idle. The gaskets seemed fin when we stripped the carb down, bear in mind this has only done about 55 hours so its not an old engine. Unfortunately I live in Lancashire but that you for the offer. In an ideal world i would just drive it down to Bailey and get them to look at it but they dont answer the phone at the moment I am not sure how much a new carb is but given the cost of driving it down to Bailey i would consider just swapping the whole thing. Could the fuel pump be causing the problem? It is fed via a vacuum tube off the intake manifold.
  17. I forgot to add that to the list, I have changed the plug too and checked its gap.
  18. All, I am still having this problem. I have tried calling Bailey for their advice / take it to them but they dont answer the phone these days So far i have done the following: 1. Tried adjusting the idle screw (that's the little screw on the throttle cable not the one on the side of the carb), it all the way down atm. 2. I took it to a motorbike mechanic who is familiar with CVK carbs and he stripped it down checking the following: - Checked the diaphragm at the top for holes splits etc - Took the float bowl off and checked for contaminates - checked the float - removed the idle jet and cleaned it (there was no sign of blockages) - Removed the main jet and cleaned 3. Checked the valve clearances 4. Did a visual check of the air filter (its a K&N) there are no signs of issues 5. Replaced the fuel for fresh 6. Changed sparkplug and checked gap (the previous one was a normal colour) As people know the Bailey should idle between 2600 and 2900. If i hold the throttle open at about 3k it runs okay. As soon as i let off the throttle the revs drop off to about 1300 and then steadily roll off until it cuts out. I can fly it fine and flew for 40 minutes the other day and it still cut out when i tried to idle so it is nothing to do with the engine being cold. Any ideas?
  19. I guess this situation would be a point scored to motors with a clutch. I wondered if engine builders like bailey would have a flywheel type thing they could put in place of the prop to provide a load for the engine and make tuning easier? Either way we are lacking manufacturer support up North so a motorbike mechanic will have to do.
  20. I would have thought trying to tune a carb while the prop was spinning was not the safest of things to do
  21. Hi, No it has not been left for longer than a month. The consensus seems to be idle jet blockage. I am based in Lancashire otherwise i would love too! I am o holiday at the moment but given its a CVK carb found in lots of common motorbikes i was hoping to get a mechanic friend who works on bikes to look at it. Hopefully it will be a case of striping the carb down and cleaning the idle jet which is beyond my comfort level. Also am i right that you CANNOT run it without the prop on? Out of interest if you had to tune it how would you do that i.e. on a motorbike you could adjust it while the engine is running. Thanks.
  22. Thanks both, still not confident stripping down the carb but i have friends who are It is mounted on a Zenith frame which has a felt filter / clunk combo in the tank so not sure how any crud could have got past and into the carb.
  23. Hi, Thanks for the reply. You will have to bear with my lack of mechanical knowledge! On the ground it will not maintain tickover, i have to keep the throttle open to stop it cutting out. If i let it idle it will splutter then cut out. Going from a small amount of throttle to full throttle is fine and i climbed at over 300ft / min which is good for my wing so no issues with power or power delivery. I have attached a photo of my carb which is a CVK. Is the screw in the picture the one you refer to? It takes a small allen key. In terms of turning this is it a case of trial and error or is there a technique to it? Do you think it might be worth getting a motorbike mechanic to look at it? Thanks in advance.
  24. I have a Bailey V5 with the most recent carb on and it has recently developed a dislike to idleing. In flight it has plenty of power and runs great it just will not idle without coughing and ultimately cutting out. At first i thought it was the cold weather but it behaves the same after a 30 minute flight. I have adjusted the idle screw, checked the valve clearances and replaced the spark plug. I can follow instructions but my knowledge of a carb is limited, it has been suggested that there are other adjustments that i could make to the carb but the manual only mentions the idle screw which just basically increases the throttle position. I live 200 miles away from Bailey so any help would be appreciated rather than take it down to him. Thanks, Paul
