  1. After a good second flight last night :D I have got the bug and want to carry on flying, I'm in the fortunate position of being able to buy new, I would like a Volution as thats what I've trained on, and they are fairly close to me, but which engine?

It seems to be a choice between a Minari or a Bailey, I am not a great fan of 2 strokes and have always had 4 stoke road bikes, the 2 has more power than a 4, but, there's the hassle of mixing fuel and poorer economy. Will the Bailey have enough power for me, at 85kg on a medium APCO Lift or similar sized revo2?(not sure which wing to get either!) :?

  2. Me too, I'm 85kg so add 10kg for clothes, helmet, boots etc then 30kg for motor and reserve is total of 125-130kg. Is it better to be near the top of the weight range (75-140) with the small or in the middle of the medium (100-165)?

  3. I'm looking at getting my first motor later this year too.

I've done loads of research and narrowed it down to three. Here goes:

    Bailey V5

4 stroke, love the idea if not having to worry about mixing fuel. My chainsaw always plays up if the mixture is even slightly out! British built too, but maybe a bit heavy?

    Bulldog

No one has a bad word to say about these machines! UK based back up too.

    Air Conception 130

The weight at only 20kg sounds very tempting. I can imagine newbies have trips and falls on take off and landing due to the weight being carried?

No bad reports about it that I've found. But only really seem to hear from people that sell them, not independent owners?

Well, I've got a couple of months to make my choice!!

I am in the same position re buying, my choices were:

    Bailey V5

    Parajet volution

    Air Conception

I'm 99% sure I will get a Parajet as they are the closest dealer, only 40 mins drive rather than 3-4 hours, I don't like buying French ever since they banned our beef exports, and my instructor sells them!

  4. Great vid, really enjoyed it. Not quite so impressed with harassing the deer, but maybe I'm just a spoilsport and alone in thinking that's a bad idea. Otherwise, as I said... A great vid. New camera seems to perform pretty well, even in low light situations.

P.s. it doesn't make a difference if they are wild or livestock. They can still spontaeously abort and suffer heart attacks through stress, even apart from the fact that its hardly going to look good to anyone else watching. (just me being grumpy again).

They can also jump out on to roads and deer tend to jump at windscreen height, I saw the results of that once, it ended up in the passenger seat!

  5. Its not easy to trace fields through the land registry, far easier, as someone said to ask locally. If you see a tractor working in the field walk over and ask (don't drive across a field uninvited) explain what you want to do, how it works, noise levels, how little damage it will cause and offer something, I would have thought £10 for the day would get most people to agree, if you start too cheap you risk having an outright no as its not worth the bother.

  6. I'm a farmer, and am training with Simon (1 day so far!) I find there is nothing more annoying than people walking across my land, trampling crops dropping litter etc. When I stop them and ask what they think the are doing the reply is always "Well I didn't think you would mind" I then ask them where they live so that I can walk my dogs in their garden, that usually stumps them.

If you are polite and especially if you offer a bit off cash not many farmers would turn you down, or how about giving them some aerial photos as well.
