  1. How was the turbulence? It looked a bit bumpy. A first flight went up and looked a bit sporty!
  2. Paid- put me down as a contender for the landing on arse competition. Flaring is overrated!
  3. Yes please, definite add if I'm not too late.
  4. SW I'm keen but because I've got a Polini Thor I plan on having an engine failure shortly after first take-off. Would I be entitled to a refund proportional to my airborne time!?! I could then spend the rest of the day discussing cylinder head temperatures and fettling!
  5. Thanks for the info, much appreciated. Will hopefully catch up soon, although i'm off to Norway to practice being cold!
  6. I think all the helicopters have scared all the paramotorists off round here. Bloody helicopters!
  7. I would pay to watch somebody fly a paramotor on Monday in S England!
  8. Lol! [sMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH AND SMILING EYES] At least the all seeing SW can hear my shouts!
  9. Anyone got any fields available in the Wallingford area?
  10. The answer to this was NO- paramotors are too slow! Apparently the airfield manager gets these enquires all the time.
  11. Anyone know if Chiltern Air Park accepts paramotor ops?
  12. Rich, Many thanks for the advice. Just managed to get the piston back in, now just to try and put the rest back together. I will look into pressure test, that doesn't sound like a good mod if its now a weak point for leaks. Thanks again.
  13. I hold my hands up. I have no mechanical knowledge or ability and am attempting to do the gasket mod on my Thor 200. Before I throw it away can anyone advise me how to get the piston back into the cylinder? Seems to be stuck on the piston rings. ....and yes I am an idiot for buying a Volution Thor.
  14. Trickyh v many thanks for the advice. There seems to be some heated discussion on the Polini Thor 200 FB group! I've got a Walbro carb and temp sense and will hopefully do the mods soon.
  15. Apologies if this is covered elsewhere, it appears Polini have released several mods for the Thor200- reed valve, gaskets etc. They seem critical to the life of the motor, and I can't see why they are not essential recall items, it wouldn't be acceptable in a car let alone an aircraft. Although I know it's a small industry and we are lucky to have a choice etc. Has anyone had major issues with their Polini? Has anyone done the mods? If so have they been effective and how hard are they to do?
  16. A lot of good and interesting chat about rotor effect both at the small level of hedges, woodland but also off large features. Another issue worth considering is standing waves, not really an issue in the South but flying other types I have experienced serious rates of descent in standing waves. Is this an issue with PPG? probably a question for the free flyers...
  17. Stu, Enzo, Thanks for the info, much appreciated.
  18. As a newbie I bought direct from the factory (they were faultlessly helpful and friendly) although I think you can't beat a face to face with a good paramotor dealer who can answer stupid questions and talk you through certain aspects of your beautiful new motor before you go and trash it! A lesson to any other newbie out there! I wandered if anyone could help answer some questions on the Polini Thor 200 Volution. The supplied manual is for the Volution XT and another one for the Polini, neither of which are massively helpful (although kind of Polini to supply the French and Italian versions also!). 1. What is the best way of charging the LiPo battery, I've been warned Optimate is not suitable? Any idea if it should be supplied with a charger? (It is an electric start version!) Should the battery be disconnected when it sits unused for a bit, if so how? 2. Should there be a start isolate switch on the chassis, if so where? Coming from other types of aviation it seems a bit odd to have a permanently live start switch. Any help appreciated.
  19. Looks like there could be some toys to look at/buy! Since the weather looks rubbish again this weekend anyone else going to this? http://www.theflyingshow.co.uk/home
  20. France and Ireland sound like fairly hardcore overwater stretches. I can only imagine how finely tuned you become to engine note! Luke- I know Lundy has a 400 mtr strip and a pub which sounds ideal to me. Scilly Isles could be worth a shot, altho if you miss it's fairly long haul to the next bit a land. Touch and go on the Wolf Rock lighthouse... The possibilities are endless!
  21. Thankfully our nation now has no enemies and we can afford huge cuts in our defence budget meaning that low flying jets will soon be a rare sight! Must be part of a very cunning plan which includes releasing terrorists while imprisoning the SAS! .....I digress from lookout.... 7 nm a minute for a fast jet, just hope the pilot doesn't drop his pen!
  22. hope you were carrying a life jacket, dinghy and PLB for that water crossing! Do they take Euro's on Canvey?!
