Had a L4/5 discectomy back in 2004 when I was 35, blame it on getting in and out of Elise's every day.
Was pissing myself until I remembered it was the name of a Lotus

I've just completed a promotional video for a developer client.
I have to say that a lot of stress, hard work and tears went into the making of it, as it was a solo job from the story board and all filming to models and editing. In fact it was a bit of a baptism of fire
If you have time (2 minutes) to watch it, and you think it worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could 'like' the video.
There are a couple of PPG shots in there, so it's not entirely off topic
Cheers

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the warm welcome.
Poz, 219 deg.!!!? Was that the 200 or 100 engine? That is a low temp to melt a piston, you have me worried now. How did you measure this temp? Was it with a CHT? If it was then my guess is that an EGT would have showed a much higher temp, i.e. 650+deg. C.
I based my 650 deg. C max on the Simonini which stated a max of 620, and Rotax two strokes who state a max of 675 or possibly 700 if I remember correctly. But at the end of the day, it will depend what type of alloy a manufacturer uses for the piston and how the gas burns, i.e. causing a hot spot on one area of the piston.
As I said, I’m no expert, but I trust my EGT. I might just set my alarm at 620 deg. C and adjust the jets to stay under that temp.
One interesting article I read on the complexities of using an EGT stated that; because the exhaust is designed to give back pressure and “hold” the charge in the combustion chamber, there is a possibility that at a certain rev setting as the back pressure changes, the “combustion flame” might protrude out of the exhaust port giving a false high reading on the EGT but as soon as you change the revs slightly it will go away.
The point being, don’t worry about small temp spikes.
Just got an email from Flylight, it appears that I am being sent a “squish kit”. Not sure what this is, but I think it might be a fat cylinder head gasket to reduce the compression. I get the feeling that Polini are happy for us all to have over rich engines to reduce the risk of a holed piston. But if you can only get max revs at ¾ throttle, something in the carb settings is wrong & that is the way mine is at the moment, so I’ll address this when it is run in. Also, my engine will cut out if idled for a long time and splutter as I try to pick the revs up. Another sign of an over rich engine.
Unfortunately, I’m in Baku, Azerbaijan waiting to go out to a rig for two or three weeks, so I can’t test and report back to you until I am home.
Regards,
Pete
Pete, I highly recommend these 2 Thor 200 Facebook pages. There's some really good info there, and it looks as if you're going to be an excellent contributor

Hi Pete, and welcome to the forum.
I read your post with interest. What you say makes sense, although my piston blew at 219°. Many thought I was mistaken until louts more low temp holes started appearing, which is when the emphasis shifted to the squish and pre-ignition.
My question is would an EGT gauge have picked this up?

''Bastard'' Im trying to lose weight!!!!!!
If you look carefully you'll notice that this is the healthy 'slimmers' option (1 egg, 1 sausage, no mushrooms or black pudding, 1 slice of toast).
It's how i get around the little voice that my mum planted in my head when I was a kid; everything in moderation
What can I say, it works. I've managed to eat stuff like this on a regular basis for years and stay at 85kg....mind you, I'm only 4'3"

Is it me, or is the world a windier place than it used to be
My wife tells me that it's me...but I don't think she's referring to external climate issues

I kind of understand your rant, but at the same time....
Pete B and I avoided buying the 200 Zenith as our tandem rig for filming because of the very well known about issues concerning the engine.
Did you not factor the same information into your buying decision?
Needless to say, I too would be gutted if my motor only lasted 2 hours. I hope you get it sorted soon and get some air.
SW
Having Pap just down the road, and all other decent manufacturers in other countries, the convenience and super quick customer service keeps me loyal to this brand, plus Pierre is a good friend now. I needed something more powerful and there wasn't any other choice.
I kinda, naively thought that Polini being such a big company (relatively speaking), they would sort out the niggles pronto. How wrong was I
-
I've just changed to a Polini Thor 200, and I cannot tell you how disappointed and upset I am with what my 5k has bought. I drilled a piston within 2 hours of flying it because it was given to me too lean.
Now I've got that issue sorted, I'm left with a paramotor that I have to spend more time watching the temp gauge than actually concentrating on flying. As soon as I increase the rpm to climb the temp shoots up and I have to level out to let it cool down before I continue to climb.
I think the thing that pisses me off the most though is its incredibly narrow power band. It's almost impossible to cruise level. I'm either descending or climbing like a bat out of hell.
Any suggestions to flatten out the power delivery would be very welcome.
It's amazing that Polini can get away with it.
Rant over

I resemble that remark
Beenflying much?
It's been rubbish here...
I'm apprehesive about flying next time as it's been that long..!!
I did notice that landing and take of sites were limited in marbella...
It was either built up, rough ground, hilly or orchards and the beach was narrow.
The tide hardly went out..!!
I haven't flown in 2 months!!! The weather's been like the UK only rain instead of snow. Never been grounded this long.
As regards to the terrain and launch sites. It's pretty dire here, cause it's so built up. Price you pay for a good climate (or not so good right now).
It's certainly not for everyone, that's why a serious recci is so important before any big decisions are made.

Good example of the Sony V the Go Pro when using steady shot.
Also look at things like the detail in the tarmac surface from each camera, and the colour of the sky.
Not sure about the stills thing as I have little to no interest in them, but I will pull a still out at some point soon and upload it.

[/youtubevideo]You're comparing Sony's latest with GoPro's old model. The new GP3Black is good step up from the 2

Has anyone compare the Phantom withe the DJI 450 with the Nasa?
Some reviews say the 450 is more programable - so you don't need to upgrade in later life........
Tony
Hi Tony
The Phantom uses exactly the same DJi Naza controller that the 450 uses, in fact you could say that the Phantom is the little brother of the 450 ...dressed up in girlie party clothes
The Phantom is an inspired move by DJi to bring serious multi-copter technology to the masses, non-techies like me that just want to remove from the box and be in the air in 20 minutes, but want all the technology that the bigger drones have (and more). They've succeeded, they are selling in drones....I mean droves.

I cannot recommend enough, especially with a GoPro3 Black attached.

OK so now you have had a rant you can stop being silly and order some more Apple stuff :-)

All really bad stuff in the world starts with a rant...

You'd maybe miss the ecosystem integration (I would which is why I never consider anything else).
Which is why I have never considered anything else, never needed to 'cause the competition simply didn't match up....until now

You'll lose and miss all your wonderfull IPhone Aps!!!!!
That's the single biggest problem. Quite a bit of dish laid out over the years including Tom Tom
-
I own a 17" Macbook Pro, iPad 3 and a iPhone 4. The iPhone 4 is definitely ready for an upgrade, so naturally you'd think I'd be looking at the iPhone5, and I have, and I'm really dissapointed. It gets worse, I'm now looking at the Samsung Note 2
From all the reviews, it looks so much better. The big screen seems so much more useable, especially with my rapidly failing eyesight. Mind you, I might need to buy a manbag to put it in
Please someone give me a good argument why it's not better than the iphone 5.

IMO, GoPro 3 Black edition, mainly because I don't think the Sony can do anything better than the GoPro (now niggles are mostly iron out), whereas I can think of a few things the GP3 can do that the Sony cannot ie 12mp stills, which are actually useful. 4k res albeit only at 15fps, but I think that means you could freeze frame at any point and remove a 12mp still. More support for the GP3, more toys based around the GP3 ie Phantom quadcopter etc
I haven't got my GP3 yet, so if anyone can offer a compelling argument to the contrary, I'd like to hear it now as opposed to a couple of weeks when I've bought mine.

My misses used to hate it when I was blatting about on tuned 1000cc + hooligan machines.
She is totally chilled about the flying.
SW
Completely understandable.
If your avarage pear-shaped occurred, one, due to massive and rapid deceleration you'd probably end up dying at the bottom of a pit in the blazing sun. Torn and twisted at the foot of a burning bike.... Whereas, the other you'd probably only end up cursing at the bottom of a farmers field, because it meant you'd need to get on the blower and blag a lift home
She knows the score

I consider myself lucky that my wife is totally cool about my PPG'ing and motorcycling. She is absolutely not interested or involved but is happy that I have something that I love. She trusts my judgement and doesn't worry when I fly/ride. However, I was having a coffee with Rob (Skybluerob) and his better half Angie the other day and Angie was saying that she often goes down to the field with Rob to watch him fly and I realised that I would really like it if my wife wanted to be more involved with the sport.
It got me wondering about other's partners attitudes to Paramotoring. Hence the poll

Hey Rob
It was great to meet you guys, enjoyed your company
Tarifa is one of my favourite places and we're really lucky to have it an hour down the road. Occasionally, about once a month you get a day or two of no wind and we get the chance for a wicked day out. This is the last one (watch for the out takes at the end)
