Improving the basemap in Garmin Mapsource

The basemap that is on Garmin Mapsource is pretty rubbish, but it can be improved.

You need to download an Open Source Map (OSM) from here

http://www.mapomatic.net/garmin-maps-download/

save it to your computer and rename it as pc_basemap2

Then go into your C drive - program files - GARMIN and find pc_basemap2, rename it something like pc_basemap3 so that you still have it if it all goes wrong!

Then into this folder cut and paste the OSM that you downloaded and renamed pc_basemap2.

Now when you opem Mapsource you can select the PC basemap from the drop down in the top left corner and you should see street level mapping with bus stops & pubs etc.

The only slight glitch I've found is that when you zoom out the map 'tiles' and you don't see it completely, but it is there. When zoomed in a bit you can scroll all over withiout any disappearing.

I've also downloaded the OSM (without renaming) onto my GPSmap76cs.
