  1. Hi Simon & Andy,

I made a short post the day before yesterday and it has vanished. I also notice that another member thinks he has lost a post. Is there anything in the logs that might point to a problem?

    Ta,

    S.

  2. So much feedback so little time.

    • First: barbed wire fence - yeah what kind of plonker lands close enough for a barbed wire fence to be any kind of threat to a wing?
Second: I hardly know you but 93Kg in my birthday suit. I've never tried weighing the whole rig and me (or just adding it all together). Perhaps I'll do it tomorrow.
Third: There's nothing wrong with the thrust from the RAD. The issue is my running. I just can't work out how to let the wing and the thrust do their stuff in nil wind. My legs somehow don't like to cover the ground ;-)
Fourth: Next time the wind is coming from that direction I'm using a different field!

    See ya'll soon.

  3. Got there to find someone packing up (Sorry, forgot the name) after a slightly disastrous landing involving a dinked prop caused by a line snagging the throttle and the kill switch not working reliably.

Got myself set up with the wind perfect for a reverse launch except for the uphill run... --- and the wind died... Ok, no sweat, turn around and go for a forward.

Almost nil wind, forward launch, uphill run. After a couple of dodgy attempts at getting the wing up the third was looking good - until the engine died - nope, it's back, get the speed back up, run faster, engine dies again, nope it's back. Stabilise the wing, engine revs back up, another 30 yards of running, ah yes, that tug of the wing lifting, brakes, engine dies again. By this point I've run a good 60 yards uphill and my legs have had it so it's time to stop. What is causing that momentary engine die every now and then? I reach for the kill switch - and it isn't there! It has slipped out of the top of the throttle and is snagging on the brake handle in my hand. Ah ha, the problem was the kill switch. Engine now stopped. Wing overflew me (absolutely no wind at all) and landed. I rosed up and began the long walk back to the car.

By this point the weather was clearly taking a turn for the worse so we all packed up - just as Col arrived. The temperature was dropping fast and dark rain clouds were heading rapidly our way so no peachy sunset flight for anyone. Ah well.

And today's lesson? Make use of the rain to fix that b****y kill switch. Motor maintenance - you know it makes sense.

    'till next time all.

    Stuart.

  4. Hi Alan,

The original TipToTip orders are in place so you don't need to re-order. I'm just waiting for delivery of that batch and of the first stock for the store. They've been held up by some EU import problem about CE marking. I know a couple of people have cancelled their orders and ordered directly from the USA. I haven't heard whether their units have turned up faster and obviously if people want to go down that route then they're free to do so.

    So to summarise:

    • We're awaiting stock.
The Tip To Tip and Paramotor Club store price is £90
You must sign up to the basic tracking service at 99 Euro per year
If you also sign up to the unlimited 10 minute tracking option (39 Euro per year) then SPOT will donate the cost of the unit (minus P&P) to TipToTip for the first 10 units

  5. Hi Barry,

Welcome to the Paramotor Club. There is plenty of excellent information on the various threads around. You'll notice that interesting words like weather and reflex are active links to threads and other sources of useful information.

Have fun and feel free to ask questions. There are plenty of people willing to help.

In terms of other places to look - right here is a great place to start :-)

  6. I was worried about the idea of lines getting snagged on tie wraps so I used a thin/strong cord. I still ended up using tie wraps (zip straps) at the corners as backup. The end effect flies really well with no snagging on forward launch.

  7. I've finally got round to taking a picture of my RAD with the netting all in place...

With this netting in place I can get a finger through it but nowhere near anything spinning. Most excellent.

  8. For those of you that have already ordered I expect delivery within 10 days.

    Stuart

How optimistic was I? Some EU ruling has forced SPOT to re-test for CE compliance. They're telling me that this will be done in the next couple of weeks and then ours are in the first batch to be shipped. I'm told that none of the resellers are allowed to ship until the re-test is done but if you can't wait and can get one from somewhere else within that time we'll understand.

    Stuart.
