  1. I have quite a lot of experience from running these far east radios for bike comms, they do tend to be good value, but I've had issues with build quality and consistency. One of the bike guys has just nabbed a VHF/UHF radio so he can listen to the marshals on 2M at race meets and also flick to the PMR channels for talking the rest of us. I run a WINTEC PMR that runs at 4w not the 0.5w and it works very well, but I can see me getting a UHF/VHF as it would be and ideal solution to clubs (not that I know any more than I have read here!) that still run PMR, clubs that now use 2M (because of the poor range of 0.5w I guess) and civil aircraft channels for XC. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WOUXUN-KG-UVD1P-DualBand-Radio-VHF-UHF-Earpiece-USB-/140405961861?pt=UK_ConsumerElectronics_SpecialistRadioEquipment_SM This is the one he has, even has an FM radio (that mutes for RX) and a torch!
  2. After our chat yesterday I spent most of today failing to pull my finger out, as I was constantly looking at the sky, I was VERY happy to see it start blowing and then some rain! I remember the same feeling from sailing, every time there was a nice Easterly, I'd be itching to get on the river What's the prognosis for tomorrow as I'm going to Bristol Airport to pick up SWMBO and could drop in and have my wallet lightened if your there?
  3. PMs stay in your out box until the person they are for logs on Cunning! I run a motorbike forum and tend to quarantine new members PM, another forum I use only lets you PM when you have posted 10 posts or more. I think I'm going to be visiting Swindon a lot for a while! Couple of questions.....the first you will probably all fall about laughing over...... Is/can a normal Paraglider harness used or is it a dedicated Paramotor one? Resisting the urge to buy something, but I have seen a Nova Pheron that looks like it is a forum members on 'that' auction site for a very reasonable price. If I'm looking for second hand kit, is that viable? The original thread is http://www.paramotorclub.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4038&p=26483&hilit=Nova+PHeron#p26483 Also a video of this wing flying a couple of days ago.... [youtubevideo]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HklSZEeagcs[/youtubevideo] I don't have the money to spend on new kit, so I'm looking at something I can use and upgrade later as the bug takes hold and food is second to getting new kit!
  4. Thanks for the PM Togsie, not sure if the PM system is working as my reply looks like it's stuck in the out-box (Being a new member?). Thought I had better thank you here or you'll think I'm an ignorant tit!
  5. Your up early! You were the top of my list, I thought there was a local place in Bourne end (only a couple of miles away) but that was a link from the Microlight Association and looks like it is (a) dead and (b) for Microlights....doh! I'm self employed so my time is flexible and a quick blat down the M4 on my bike looks like mixing my love of my bike with getting some lessons in.......damn this rain or I'd be booking for today!
  6. Well I better say 'Hello'.... My name is Andrew and I live in Berkshire (the very last road!) on the border with Buckinghamshire. I plan to get flying ASAP and am looking at either a UK based course on an ad-hoc basis or ride my bike down to Spain. Any tips or ideas would be great! Trying VERY hard to avoid buying kit first, but I keep finding things...... I am quite lucky as I have a workshop on a farm with big fields so have a launch site sorted!
