  1. You can certainly listen on 118.675 without problem, without transmitting no one is going to know.
To transmit legally you would need to do the FRTOL course and pay for the CAA license once passed.

Sorry, that's the way it is.
I did transmit without authority a few times but the controller always knows as you don't have the grip on correct terminology and responses.
I am glad I went with the course and license, I can use airband now wherever I am.

  2. Well done Stu, that was a close one. Great camera angle.

I flew on Monday after 6 1/2 months, went over to Clive's.
First take off was a bit rusty, up for 30 minutes.
2nd flight in early evening was intended for about 1 hour, however i got a bit lost.

Evwntually found the field after being up for 1 hour 20 mins. Landed with no fuel in the tank, just a dribble in the fuel llines and carb.

    Great time.

  3. Yes it was a fantastic flyin keeping the vibe of summer PMC flyins alive, and how.

Due to personal circumstances I haven't flown much this year but this really recharged my batteries. Superb to fly everyday by taking the weather windows when they were there.

A pity some pilots didn't attend due to weather conditions worry, all I can say is you have to dress appropriately 😆

Good food, great company, great craic..

  4. Yes, you will be at the top of the weight range for the wing.

The Top 80 is almost 15hp, I used to fly a 15hp motor with a wing at the top of the weight range. Climb rate will be lower than with a more powerful motor, perhaps 200 feet per minute, so allow enough space for take off.

  5. I run a Bailey four stroke, I'd say it is about the only one you will find on the 2nd hand market.

Yes it is heavier, generally comes in at around 28.5kg dry, but you generally carry less fuel so partly balances out the takeoff weight for flight.

Power output is 20-22hp (V5 V5s I believe) whereas the common Moster 185 is 25hp, the difference is noticable. If you are on the heavier side the extra is worthwhile.

Economy is the plus point at around half the consumption of a typical 2 stroke, they are a little quieter but the propellor makes the most noise.

Downside is if parts or manufacturers sevicing is required, Bailey Aviation only operates a 3 day week on Tuesday to Thursday.

  6. Just to clarify the standing of Paramotoring in the UK Steve, it is deregulated rather than unregulated.

As a pilot you still have to comply with all the rules of the air, so knowing these is important.

One advantage of training with the PMC is you don't need to learn to paraglide first.
