Hello folks,
I am trying to work out what to do after my EP course re: training and buying kit and I wanted to know how much I should be looking to spend on a complete set up after training?
Really I want it to be as cheap as possible as I will have to wait until I have saved up for it before I can fly again after completing training.
The cheapest I can see a new complete set up online is the 'black hawk' package. Is this any good?
How much could I expect to spend as a reasonable lower end for a second-hand setup?
Thanks,
Paul

Well it wouldn't be the first time that I have made a mistake
Still I will have finished it in another 3 days and be ready to decide what step to take next. I am thinking that going straight from the EP to the paramotor course will probably be the next logical step. I'll have a chat with bignos and play things by ear as the time nears (which, weather depending should hopefully be quite soon).
Thanks,
Paul

Thanks for the advice folks.
I spent two days in Derbyshire playing with a wing. Got off the ground, quite high a few times.
I think it would be good to be able to do both. I am more interested in paramotoring but I will need some time to save up the extra funds for the kit. It seems a lot more expensive. I would like to get going quite quickly so I thought of getting a £1500 second hand glider to practice with until I have the 4-5k that I would need to get a paramotor. A least that way I can get started now.
I have paid up for the EP course and I might do that and then consider moving straight onto PPG.
Bignos - no I am not from Wolston, I am from Kenilworth. I would actually find meeting up for a chat quite useful if that is OK?

Hello there folks,
I have my first paragliding lesson tomorrow! (Yay!)
I decided to take an EP course. As I said in another thread, I want to paramotor so I wasn't sure if I should just skip straight to that. I ended up choosing to start with a paragliding course because it seems that some clubs insist on club pilot to use their launch sites. Besides I want to have the certificate that says I know what I need to know to be safe. (My wife was rather keen for me to have that too!) So I plan to do a CP course after then come and train for PPC1 with you folks.
I think it would be really good if we could do the individual steps EP, CP and PPC1 with you. Is this something that you are thinking of?

Hello there,
Just ended up here looking for course info. Perhaps a sticky with course info in here would be handy?

Hey Norman!
Sorry for not responding. Really I should have as this is my area of speciality (design). I could offer the excuse of being busy, but then we are always busy right?.
If you are looking for good quality pictures then http://www.sxc.hu is probably the best place to use. Sign up for a free account (they don'e spam). They are royalty free so you don't need to worry about copyright and they are all decent quality.
As I said, I am a designer. If you want any work doing to help the club, I don't mind pitching in. I do web sites and web work, posters, fliers, banners, t-shirts, blah blah blah. I would of course do it for free, as you all seem to put up with my annoying newbie questions so patiently! As I said before too, I can be quite busy, but I can usually find a bit of time for some fun projects.

Or make your own with 2 props, one spinning the other direction.

is PPG1 a certificated course?

Its a little unfair to diss your bike as well, so I am sorry about that.
Not at all, I can quite imagine it would. To be honest I would have got something a bit faster but I am restricted to 33bhp for 2 years. It's pretty much the fastest bike I can ride until then. Still, it gets over 100mph with no problems
I don't know how I would hande 200mph! Was it a Hayabusa?
Hope you have a good flight today.
Paul.

Do you arrange landing sites ahead of time?
Are there many other complications to flying abroad (besides air space and law)?
-
I shall assume that sleep translates as under the speed limit then
Its all my licence allows (due to the restriction).
Looks like there is a lot of class D and MATZ around swindon way. Does that get in the way?
-
I have a ninja 250r which I would say is a wholey decent bike! Though I think there may be a few who will take issue with that!
Surely that would make better speed than a paramotor?
-
That's great. Its about 2 hours away I think, so quite do-able.
I can't come this weekend though. Maybe next weekend if people are around then?
Thanks again,
Paul

Thanks folks,
That sounds like a good advice.
Where is Lambourne? (Google maps shows a few).

Hello folks,
I am considering my options on how to get into the sport. I was thinking about taking a paragliding course to start with and then convert. this is because:
- It is cheaper to begin with so I can get started quicker (the difference in the price of the kit is quite prohibitive - I don't have £5k to cover th costs at the moment!)
- I will end up with a licence for a glider as well as a paramotor
- I can practice controlling the wing before I add a motor into the mix, while I save up for a motor and harness.
Does this sound reasonable, or should I perhaps consider doing it a different way?
Thanks,
Paul

Thanks Pete.
I am umming and arring as to which way is the best to get into the sport. I think I will post up a thread and get some advice.

That look s like an interesting break down. Not sure why you mention it though? Are you saying that I should go a different way about it?
I am trying to figure out what the best route is at the moment.
I saw your site and saw a price for paramotor training which looked interesting. Was that from beginner? Where do you fly from?
Does PMC issue the same licences/awards?
Thanks,
Paul

Yep, I will be.

I am a noobie to paramotoring as I am sure is painfully obvious, (in fact I haven't even been for my first session yet!) but looking at the map link with the NOTAMs on, three things confuse me,
1. Some regions do not seem to have any A-G classification according to the map. What's all that about?
2. Some regions overlap, such as the attached one, where I have highlighted an overlapping region. What does that mean then?
3. some areas seem to have a further border highlighted by a white line.

Thanks for the info!

Hello folks,
I am going to sign up for a taster session for paragliding/paramotoring and I am sure they will answer everything I need to know then, but I am to thrilled about the prospect to wait to ask some a questions that I was hoping someone could help me out here!
Ultimately, I would like to get into para-motoring and be able to take off and land from where-ever I like. (Within reason obviously!)
I am confused by the little information I find on licences. Maybe the information is not there or maybe I am just easily confused!
As I understand it, if I do a course and get up to club pilot I can take off and land at club sites, but not, say a field of a farmer I buddy up with. Is that right? What exactly does club pilot mean? is it just that?
If so, what then would I need to get a 'full' licence?
Thanks for your help folks!
Paul.

Could you point them out as I can't seem to find them. I am probably just being blind.
