    PPG risers or not?

I am still looking into this and I think I will purchase some. I was worrying about swapping them over though. How do I ensure I have the correct lengths? Thanks! Paul

    PPG risers or not?

Thanks for that. So, if I wanted to use my paragliding wing for both paragliding and paramotoring, then I would either need to keep swapping the risers over (not really practical) or use the paraglider risers for both, in which case I would have to make sure my harness attaches lower down? Thanks, Paul

    PPG risers or not?

Hello folks, I have an APCO vista (not the HP) and I was wondering if I need to use PPG risers with it? I have yet to get a paramotor so I can't really see how it hangs (so to speak). I have seen a couple of companies make reference to them but have not found anyone selling any. I assume they are make and model specific? Thanks! Paul
  4. Yeah, was good to meet you all. Thanks for the link BigNos
  5. I will be catching a lift down with Mark so we will both be coming.
  6. What about weather books? I have started two so far and found them to be less than appropriate for the beginner. They are: Understanding Flying weather - Derek Pigott Air Riders Weather - Alan Watts The problem with them is that they don't explain what they say. They say things like: winds flowing into an area of low pressure must exit it, otherwise the depression would fill in very quickly. OK so I know that the air does exit, I can even explain the angles of entrance and exit, but I have no idea why it does not just fill up. Maybe it's just the way that I work, but I need a mental model of these things, not just a list of facts. For this reason, I can read the book, but I have to read each paragraph about 10 times and make my own model of what is happening and figure out for myself why it is how they are describing it, which I assume is right, but you know what they say about assumption... These people may be good at their subject, but are no good as teachers. Anyone know a good graphic book or video I can use a basis before reading these less descriptive books?

    PC Problems.

I normally advise people not to take a mac laptop as the price is high and the component quality is cheap. This is changing though on both counts and they are more competitive now. (I use a mac, but only because I had my work buy it - if I had to buy it myself it would have been windows). I would strongly avoid SD chips as RAM. They are slow, usually very slow. The whole idea of RAM is to provide a fast storage space for allowing the OS to work speedily. SD chips will actually slow the system down. This is unless somebody know something that I don't about how win7 is utilising the chip, but I can't see how. The access speeds prohibit any useful function in this area.
  8. How many hours? Where is it? Thanks, Paul
  9. Does that look like a reasonable glider to you then (condition-wise - nothing untoward looking?) Thanks, Paul.
  10. Hello folks, I am looking for a reasonably low hour wing that I could use for paramotoring and paragliding (seems a bit nuts to buy both and I understand there are dual purpose wings). I am about 75kg (without any harness etc.) I have £800-1000ish to spend. Anybody have anything appropriate? Thanks, Paul
  11. Wahey! I am in Kenilworth. I don't have a set-up at the moment. I am still getting started. Leamington is right on the edge so a launch site there could be OK. Maybe out Southam would be better? Paul
  12. My search for a pramotor on google wasn't very fruitful. I only really found this...
  13. I can't seem to post there. There is no 'new topic' button. Does it need to be unlocked? Paul
  14. Hehe, I should have included that pretty important piece of information. I am in Kenilworth, near Coventry. Thanks, Paul
  15. Hello there, I have decided to sign up for a paramotor course. Could somebody let me know who my local trainer is and who will answer my specific questions (an how - telephone, forum, etc.). Thanks, Paul.
  16. I would like to come but it is the wife's birthday so not much chance of that
  17. forums are personal expression of opinion are covered by freedom of speech laws. That's my understanding. Certainly I have never heard of a forum censoring in this way. Your forum, your choice, but I think you are worrying about nothing and limiting peoples expressions is neve a good thing!
  18. I opted for a touch pro 2. Has (real) GPS and a slide out keyboard, higher res screen, blah blah blah. Any clues as to why yet?
  19. It's a little unclear quite what you mean. Do you mean that you expected provision of a paramotor and wing just for learning or to keep? A little investigation would have indicated that the price to keep a whole set-up is much more than that. If they had offered this, then it would not have been the quality of kit that I would have liked to trust my life to. Really, you are looking at 5-6k plus for new kit, so £1195 for (decent) kit plus training would be unbelievable. Either which way, I would not train myself any more than I would recommend my family to take a car on the motorway and learn as they go. Paul.
  20. Perhaps he should have followed just in front and to the side of a ferry just in case! Though they might not be looking if you go down, in which case it would be even worse!
  21. so paratreking huh? sounds like a phrase that will be coined. Only going forward because you can't find reverse? Would be good to see a picture of how compressed you have managed to get it! Paul
  22. I know I am a way off yet having only done a bit of gliding, but I was curious about the potential for fling to France. Has anyone ever done it? Is it allowed and what is involved? Paul
  23. Hello Zulu330, I am in the Warwickshire area (near Leamington). I don't think there are any clubs less than 90 minutes away. I don't have my own equipment yet. I am just training up and saving for the gear. Perhaps when we are both up and running we can both look for shared spots? I know of a few fields around here that would make good launch/landing sites and I am sure we could persuade one or two of the land owners to let us use them. Good luck with getting started then! Paul
