1. Hey Guys

I am coming back to Europe in June/July. I am planning on buying a second motor and leaving it with the folk for when I am come to visit.

So I need to buy paramotor, I have put aside a budget of about 2000 pounds.

If any of you know of anyone or maybe in the coming month you have a mate who is looking to sell let me know.

I have about a 1 week window to collect.

Not to fused about motor, currently have original thor 100.

I weight about 75kg so not looking for heavy unit.

  2. I will open my starter again tomorrow and try a few different things in the hope of resolving it.

Here is the thing, surely we cant be the only one's out there having this issue with thor motor's.

The only other pilot I know who fly's the thor 100 had a flash starter but got rid of it for due to the pull cord getting pulled out mid flight!!!

My temp fix was a removable cable tie in the starter once started, not ideal but will save my prop!!

  3. Hey Guys,

Just finished the mod and it did not fix mine. I just tried it under full power and had the same effect as before!!

Quite frustrating, if I need to fly i think I will lock in the starter with a removable cable tie.

    Q. What thickness was the fiber washer plus the two washers / spacers you used???

Tempted to get the old starter back in.

  4. Excellent.. That's tomorrow's job lined up.

If the weather is good in the morning may have to get in a sneaky flight and hope it doesn't happen if its rubbish weather I am going to try this mod (will let you know how I get on )..

Are you suggesting that polini put a product to market which had a design fault. Surely not!

Cheers guys if it works i will be a v.happy!!!

  5. Hello from Australia...

Hey Phil as you know this happened to me, I tried a few things (3 props later) I ended up buying a new flash starter as my old one was beyond repair.

All was cool for about 5hours with the new one then yesterday during a 2 hour flight they bloody same thing happened..

I saw the pull starter handle fly past me and get stuck on the net.. I managed to grab it (mid flight) from the net and some how tie it up..

But now confidence is back to zero with the motor. no long flights for me.

I am thinking about adding spacers 2mm again to increase the distance from the motor to the flash starter. Was flying with another pilot who has the same motor thor 100 and he said he got rid of his and put back on the stock starter!!

If you figure out how to stop this please let me know. Not even going to waste my time asking polini!!

    Cheers,

    Darragh

  6. Nice camera : http://vio-pov.com/products-all/pov-hd.html

No I dont have a Gopro 3, I have 2 Gopro 2's. Look they are awesome cameras but I have seen other vids from other pilots like :

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJ2IaSb1TJ8&hd=1

Not done on a gopro I know they are using a camcorder. Really happy with the action cameras, as I said I just interested to see whats out there.

I know my next camera needs to have a remote, nothing worse than trying to edit 2gbs clips.

Anyone using a newish camcorder by any chance.. recommend any..

  7. Q: apart from the action cameras (GoPro's, Drift, Sony action cam) these are all great little camera's but I am looking for the next level up, possibly a camera without the fisheye lens I always find the action camera rubbish at long field shots.

    Any suggestions??

  8. Our local parajet dealer has one, hopefully going to get to demo a Zenth with the 130 motor this weekend.

Agree with Pete after the 200 which has being a bit of disaster for polini and users, I see why people would be nervious going for a polini motor.

For whats it worth the 130 is based on there first model thor 100.

I have the thor 100 and its being pretty rock solid (bar the recent reed valve issue)

Again if I was buying one I would only take the walbro carb version.

One thing I will make sure when I am getting my next motor. What is the customer service like??

    Polini's are rubbish.. fact.

I know they wanted all the users to go through the company they bought the motors from..

Just saying if they employed someone who actually listened and responded to users questions etc the polini paramtor story could have a very successful one.

Anyone know or heard down at the local post office what cc the new 2 stroke from bailey is meant to be!! Clutch or belt??

  9. Hey Guys

I have a mate who is looking into paramotoring, He is down to do his training soon.

He weights about 75kg and is only 165cm in height.

What size motor and again what size frame would you be looking at??

He was looking for a second hand top80 but cant find one locally for sale.

    Any suggestions.

  10. I am back......

    Yes the polini strikes again..

OK so I have been flying nearly as much as possible since I managed to fix my motor..

My pull cord is getting sucked into the prop..

I have had two brown pants moments in the last week, first time same thing smashed a prop, managed to land.

Next up quick flight after work this evening, carbon prop bang!! not as bad as wooden prop repairable.

After the first incident I modified the pull cord so It would happen again (failed)

My pull cord is getting sucked into the prop..

I have a flash starter on my polini thor 100.

Pull start is connected to the frame for overhead start..

Is super easy to start maybe too easy, It happened mid flight when I applied mass power it appears the pull cord comes lose..

    Has anyone experienced this before.

in the video look for the pull cord, its dangling about and then gets smashed.

    Ideas or thoughts??

  11. Bout bloody time the site is back online.. Thought I would not have a chance to tell you all how it ended..

Well first up Screw you polini..

For those of you you who were reading the history of my posts you will know that the petals in polini 110 reed block broke.

Polini would not sell me the petals on there own. 80 euros plus shipping plus 3 week wait!!!! So not being an option I went on the hunt for the part. Had offers from other manufactures but it need to be the right width etc. So i managed to source a 0.3mm carbon sheet from a scooter store in Germany and guess what!! The sheet is made by polini!!

    IMG_20130511_100854.jpg

So I cut the petals to size, put it back in and what do you know runs like a dream, i have really pushed it over the last couple of days, now a very happy man indeed!!

    Problem solved.

  12. That happened to me on my compact it was running fine then pop, it would run but not very well and only on tick over I rang Parajet and as he was talking me thro it we found the problem mine had bin fitted with carbon fibber reeds and one had disintegrated, I had to take the cylinder off and blow it all out and clean it. I got them to send me a new aluminium one. I'm shore there it's a Parajet factory in oz, give them a ring and I bet they will help u out.

Sent from my iPhone using PMC Forum mobile app

Already in contact with the local Parajet dealer who has being very useful for getting parts for my polini.

I didnt buy from Parajet, bought the motor on its own, followed by PXP frame.

One thing has this has made me realize, polini are a bit of a nightmare to get parts from.

Why dont they hire someone who speaks decent english who will deal with engine problems, parts etc. I know the thor 200 owners are having a hard time with there engine's. Its sort of put me off getting another polini in the future.

Then again I could be just saying this as my motor is not working!!! Best thing since sliced bread when its going!

  13. The saga continues.. So I rebuilt the polini again and I think or should I say I thought i resolved the issue.

I found the valve that works as a fuel pump was full of crap, after I cleaned it out it was running good, brought it to the local park to apply power and under the 20 sec has a massive backfire and then dead!!

    2013-04-26074543.jpg

Has anyone ever had to replace the reed valve before?? Need to get my hands on replacements petals as I think they are called. I am live on the west coast of Australia I think I could be on for a wait.

  14. Hi Darragh,

I have marked up your plug photo:

The Peltor connections are shown to the Kenwood standard.

In schematic form the connections are identical to the plugs shown on the left of this diagram:

    Shout if you need more,

    Cheers, Alan

    Hey Alan

Just a heads up to say that I managed to get this soldered up and it works a treat, I will take some pictures of how it looks, overall very happy so much so I have ordered the UV5R +plus .

Thanks for your help on getting it together.

  15. If it makes a "whaaaaa" sound when you open the throttle, it's probably running lean.

If it runs "lumpy" when you open the throttle, it's running too rich.

Lean is usually caused by crap in the carb, a wrongly assembled carb, or an air leak somewhere in the crankcase. But it could be other things too - fuel flow restricted etc.

Do you have a Walbro carb? if so check the order of the gaskets is correct. There are some useful links here: http://www.paramotor.co.nz/viewforum.ph ... 61e9db9d41

To test for an air leak, you have to block off the intake and exhaust ports (with plugs or plates and gaskets), then pressurize the crankcase with around 6psi, and see if this holds over a period of ~5 minutes.

If it doesn't hold pressure, get soapy water and spread this around the entire engine - bubbles will form where the air leak is:

Many thanks for your response Notch, its shied some light on the problem.

I have been trying to get to the bottom of it for over a week now, I really don't think its leak anywhere. Reason for this thought, it was working I decided to strip the motor and remove all the serviceable parts, I have now changed all gaskets etc, I didn't remove piston only cylinder head. So it must be something I have not adjusted correctly etc I did manage to remove the clutch but that should not have effected the gaskets or caused any leaks in the chamber!!

I did a compression test yesterday and using a pull start I was getting a PSI of around 155 PSI.

Anyone know if that is OK.

I really think it must be the carbie, it was quite in work yesterday so I stripped it down, cleaned and checked all and it seemed fine. I dont have the walbro tool to confirm the needle but as I replaced the needle for a new one from the Walbro kit I used it must be OK!!

Its motor is currently stripped as I am changing and and tightening all the bolts, I will try the pressure test tonight.

My polini thor is over 3 or 4 years old got to a few more years in the old girl!!

    Again thanks for the help.
