  1. You may want to research belt selection as well as they can jump past or below your adjustment range. J section poly V or micro V belts. Any supplier of PT components will ask for centre distance, Min Max adjustment, and pulley diameters. You may find that anything standard off the shelf, will require machining. Personaly I would take both to a good machine shop if you can not buy standard and manufacture from scratch with the correct material for the application. Also you need to look at what material is left if you reduce the small pulley diameter. It may not be physically possible to go smaller due to clearences, shaft diameter, nut washer etc, boss projections yada yada.

You may also need to change both pulleys custom made to suit belt centres and ratio if a belt size is non existant for adjustment when changing one or both pulleys.

It's worth mentioning that drive design and ratio, if done correct are measured at the PCD of the belt. In the case of micro v belts, it's a mil or so bigger than the OD of the pulleys. It's at the point you see the chord or PCD of the belt. All other V type drives calculate the PCD of the belt and drive design below the pulley OD.

Andy's bang on, the same applies if you only change the large pulley ( not your issue ) and the only way to compensate is to extend your centres.

  2. This penguin’s driving along the East Coast when his car starts playing up.

He swings into a service station and asks the mechanic if he could sort the problem.

The mechanic say’s he’ll have a look, but it will be about half an hour.

So the penguin decides to go for a walk to the beach and have a swim.

As he’s heading back to the mechanic, he comes across an ice cream stand and buys a big triple scoop vanilla.

He scoffs the ice cream, wipes his beak, but misses a big blob on his lower beak.

As he walks up to his car, mechanics head under the hood, he says hey, did you find anything to the mechanic.

The mechanic raises his head, looks at the penguin and says, yeah mate, I think you’ve just blown a seal.

The penguin retorts, wiping his beak, NO, NO, Seriously, I just had an ice cream..

Wait for no wind, or it is very bumpy. I flew over the Cleveland Hills (and in the valleys over the resevoirs etc) yesterday and the wind was 10 to 15 mph. It was very bumpy. Also, you need to be prepared for big downdraughts. In the lee of a hill you can suddenly find your self descending.......quickly.  Even full power can still see you falling! In one valley yesterday I had wind from the left. Staying close to the left side avoided the down draught, but moving just a little to the right put me directly in the falling rota.....1 to 2 m/s down on full power.

Yeah thanks Andy. Winds a pain in the arse, sure there's a joke in there somewhere. I regret not getting into paragliding or paramotoring earlier instead of skydiving. I would also have liked some paraliding knowedge up my sleeve, but I figured I was getting to old to dick around any longer, so dove in.

Thanks again Andy, I should have some nice photo's to post next week if it's good flying weather this weekend.

    All good..

Hi m8. just checked out the rodeo. looks like a nice strong, compact design, but is 27kg vs 22.5kg of the skymax. also has less thrust 65/70 vs 75 of the moster. last but not least is the price $11.900 vs $8555, that's $3345 difference.I don't want to make compromises because of price, but to be honest, i think the skymax looks like a better machine for me, and if i get all my gear from the same dealer, i'm quite sure ill get some discount on top of what to me look like the best prices i have seen. thanks, mark.

Adrian know's his stuff, he's a straight shooter, great to deal with, and is happy to help with after sale questions.

The Star is my first rig, so I can't make to big a judgement just yet, but yeah, I like it. The Vitto Moster 185 plus, cracks.

Went with the Dudek 1.1 and it hasn't failed to launch yet, and it's a nice progressive wing that you can grow with. Perfect for me.

  5. Hi,

Are there any informative text books about that can explain flying ppg around valleys or active flying such terrain ?

I have a mentor with about 700 hours that I will be flying with on a regular basis, but I would like to have some literature

on the shelf if it's about.

    Thanks in advance.

    Yep that's worked.  :)

    Nice takeoff

    Andy.

Thanks Andy, there was a lot going on there. The wing came up so easy and fast. I thought it was going to overfly me, hence the on off throttle action at the very start, but it just stopped cold and stayed there.:) A little brake also went through my mind at the point it was coming over my shoulder, so yeah a few things, lol

It maybe because its a facebook video that is only viewable to you.  When you click the link I assume you are logged into facebook.

It maybe that I can't view as I don't have the permission within facebook.

Try changing the permission of the video to public.  That may fix it.

    :)

    Andy.

    ok, try now

Can't get that link to work Kran

    Andy.

Not sure Andy, I'm not that tech savy. Maybe copy the link and paste in browser. I'm not sure how to post it another way. It works when I click on it in the post itself, but not in activity.

M8 your more than welcome. Best you contact Sean Seery on the FVPi Facebook page.Sean is club Pres and is the best person to speak to for a heads up.

Both the club page here and FB are a bit quiet at the moment as we don't officially open for about another 2 weeks.

Look forward to meeting you then..

    Super! )))

We just got ours, get them assembled and I run in the engine (Moster Plus) yesterday.

We have not flown ours yet as the weather in Britain was rubish... Bore Chasers was cancelled...

A bit of advice for this frame - just use a piece of plastic tie to fix the throttle to the frame - it will indemnify you forever from throttle cable going into prop. Just do not overtighten it to let the cable moove freely inside.

Thanks for the heads up on the throttle cable Ivan, will do.

At the moment I'm only 2 hours into the second phase of run in.

I've not flown mine yet, but there's a good chance for this weekend.

I added the Powerfloat system to the sholder straps today, but i'm still waiting on the front mount reserve. Should be here Friday.

  11. Finally took delivery of my new Skymax Star after waiting for the wing, Dudek Universal 1.1

I purchased both through Adrian @ Backpack Airsports in South Australia.

Adrian's business acriment, professionalism and knowlege are in my opinion second to none.

Awesome experience to say the least...:D:D:D

I think my point is: Go and knock on some doors!! they can only say no and will most likely say yes :-)

    Your bang on Simon,

About 6 weeks ago I went and knocked. I'd known there was an airfield nearby so after completing my course, it was time for the knock. As I drove into the driveway and spotted the house I almost put the car in reverse, thinking the response was going to be a lot worse than just a no, I thought go for it. So, I knocked, popped the question, then nearly fell over as the owner said YES. I nearly died on my 3rd visit to the airfield when the owner asked, how come you never bring your gear and fly? It was at that point I had to confess that I didn't have any and announced my novice status. I thought it was over but his reply was, we were all novices at one point.

At the time, I had 1 phone number for somebody in the sport. It didn't take long from there to get in contact with the right people that were willing to get a new club going, so we did.

It's now become my second home. We are still in the set-up phase, but hope to be open to the public by mid to late March.

With any luck, my wing should arrive soon then I can actually start flying the site, hahaha.

    Thanks.

    Great forum.
