Barry’s contact details here. Don’t fly before receiving detailed instructions on what you can do there. It is more restricted than what your flight map shows due to sensitive neighbours and low flying business jets.
I flew 2+ hours and 50+ miles yesterday in perfect wind and weather.

Hello, anyone has any news about Barry` field? Still available?

Tuesday afternoon anyone?
Hm, I`ll definitely consider that. 7C still sounds a bit cold and the field must be sloppy. If I can make it I`ll be there around 2-2.30pm.
-
It is the temperature (3 to 6C) that kills my motivation I used to fly above frozen lakes but when it is below 10C then there is not much fun in flying.

Oh no!! How soon can you fix it?
Changing the seal is relatively easy, but if both the old and the new seals leaked then there may be some other problems, I fear. I`ll give it a try with another seal first.
Looked pretty rough this evening when I was driving on the Hog`s Back at 7PM.

It was better in the Guildford-Godalming area, a few thermals before 6PM, but nothing serious. There were also 2 hot air balloons in the air. My brand new crank shaft seal started leaking after an hour, no more flying for a while

Just talked to Barry, it`s OK to go there today (Friday). As far as I see there are no NOTAMs until Monday.
-
Yes, on Saturday. Friday does not look bad either.

Anyone in Guildford tomorrow evening? Szabi - did I meet you at John Kirby's back in the early spring?
Hi Paul, yes, I attended JK`s dinner. I see the weather will be perfect on Sunday, but my top80`s reductor has failed and I`ll be out of the skies until it`s fixed. I am sure there will be others at Barry`s field though, I met 5 or 6 ppg pilots there 2 weeks ago.

You`ll find Barry`s phone number here: http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=5184
There were 2 of us yesterday, brilliant weather and dry, short grass. I may go there this afternoon again.
-
I flew from Barry`s field 2 times this year and he is still supportive to ppg pilots (just don`t drive on the grass, and keep distance from the neighbours :)), and there are no news about the building plans that he mentioned a year ago. It`s a problem that you cannot do circles there, I would really need that now that I rebuilt my engine and would like to stay close to the field during the first one or two flights. Not sure there are any other farmers who would let us do it though. But if you find one, I am happy to join the team there

Going to Barry`s farm today (Sat, 14/04), just in case anyone would join between 3-4PM. I called Barry, he says all is good, just no driving on the grass.

I have just been told Dunsfold have said they will let paramotors fly as long as they are contacted a day in advance (since they have stuff going on sometimes).
However the owner is trying to get permission to build homes on it (decision imminent) and word has it if that falls through he's selling it to a film studio. So not sure how long it will remain an option.
Greg
Hi Greg, do you have a contact?
-
These post are 9 years old, I wonder what happened in the meantime. I visited a local business today and saw an RC model doing aerobatics above the runway.
-
Argh, I should have gone there instead of the coast... Landed on 2 feet in 20+ mph NE wind (forecast was 9 mph South), got a big applause from bystanders who thought I wouldn`t make it. Have to send a thank you letter to the wing manufacturer.
-
Has anyone recently been to Barry`s?
-
By the way, what life time these carabiners have? Should they be ever replaced if there is no obvious sign of wear?
-
-
Just talked to Barry, he says he is waiting for an approval on a building plan, so paramotor pilots may lose this place later this year. Still OK to go there in the next few months though.

Yes we still fly around chichester.. Thorney is a no go area due to the microlight club and there Circuits.. Also Langstone harbour is a no Go!! Get your self an air map for all the no go areas.. ALL of inland water around chichester harbour are AONB so no low flying
Yes, I have a flight map and saw the small circle around Thorney, so I understand it is just the nearest environment of the airfield, not any bigger than that. Also see the big duck symbol at Langstone, will avoid that. Let me send you my number in a PM, I`d appreciate if you could drop me a short note when preparing for a weekend flight in the area. Thanks.

Hi
Just a heads up as me and seymore are planning on flying to or near the spinnaker tower thursday...
We hope to fly out of one of my fields near my house
Sorry if its short notice but its looking good weather
Hi Morgy, do you still fly in this area? I live quite close to Portsmouth and I would love to join a similar team flight if there will be any in this season. I wonder if there are any watch-outs on Thorney Island. Any flying activities there besides RC models?

The proximity of Farnborough and Gatwick limits your options.
To the NE, I flew to the former Wisley airfield and followed the M25 to the East for a while. To the SW, I flew to the Devil's Punchbowl at Hindhead. You can also reach the coast at Brighton, Littlehampton or Portsmouth, but that's probably a one-way flight from Guildford.
Have a current flight map and NOTAM on hand, because it's a complex airspace all around, you must avoid big areas, or keep relatively low (below 2000 ft).
