  1. Unfortunately from personal experience a large percentage of American training places are more interested in the bottom line than getting you trained safely and flying safely. Last I saw he pushed Edel gliders...not sure where they come from since they have not been made for many years. I talked to many trainers back when I was trained and turned away from many after just a five minute conversation. Finally found a good one and been flying ever since.

  2. Tonyparamotor,

Trying a wing before you buy is not always an option to everyone. I live literally 1000 miles away from the dealer I buy from and dealers are scarce in Montana and Wyoming. Same goes for rest of kit..do the homework. The local dealers/instructors (within 150 miles) push you to buy their stuff as none will allow training on their kit and would NEVER encourage the purchase of used equipment.

  3. Hi,

Only one marginal landing and only because I was not expecting the speed increase while landing...nothing major happened or broke just did not land on feet mostly. Had the wing for almost a year and no trouble landing after the first one. I guess I expected it to land nice and slow like the the Muse did..my mistake. I would not go back to a Muse as this one launches easier in nil wind and handles much better. No complaints about it at all. I ordered mine in custom colors so I think I will have it for a while.

  4. Hi,

I have flown alone since I finished my training 3 yrs ago! I am the only PPG guy around for over a hundred miles in any direction. I don't really have any choice. But I always let people know the general area I will be flying in and what time I expect to be home. I do not do any point to point trips...

  5. Hi all,

Due to my infrequent flying and long winter layovers I try to minimize my risk and drama by never straying from my simple rules...which for many would be great flying days.

    1. Too windy for forward launch then I am not flying.

    2. 2hrs max after sunrise and 2hrs before sunset no exceptions.

    3. I never have trimmers out past neutral and hands on brakes at all times..never fussing with cameras and such. Dont have any use for speedbar either.

The above rules for myself keep me relatively safe with my low flying frequency and work for me as I am just out for the scenery and never really have a destination and endless miles of open landscape here.

  6. Hi all,

I flew for the first time last night since last October! With a brand new wing to boot. Where I live there is no flying from November to March...too dam cold..like minus digits. Typical year for me is like maybe 8-10 flights total since this is not my only hobby. I try to pick the calmest days possible to minimize any drama and I fly like grandma. I launched second try no trouble and had 45 minute flight and landed on both feet with no issues. It all comes back to you quickly so I am not too worried about how much I fly.....its all good.

  7. Hi,

I learned on reflex (Dudek Universal) with trimmers buckled from factory so no messing with them and then went on to fly my own non-reflex. Only flew the non-reflex 4 times then bought a reflex. Either one worked fine for me...still quite a beginner but I did not think there was a huge difference...but then again I fly like grandma in calm conditions only.

  8. Hi,

I got it all sorted and ended up buying new gear, I was able to establish a relationship with a different instructor/distributor that sold very nice stuff and was more interested in furthering the sport and helping people learn and succeed than how much money he made. I got good stuff at a fair price, even just bought a new wing ( still in the bag as it is snowing right now with 6 inches on the ground here.) I can point anyone in this distributors direction if wanted through PM.

  9. All,

Had the same problem too, guy that was close to me approx 100 miles away was more interested in how much money he could make from me with equipment and training! So I decided to go to Ryan Shaw (Paradrenalin)in Arizona (400+ miles away), great guy no sales pressure used all his stuff ( all good Nirvana and Dudek). Training was very good. Things seem to be very different here in the states compared to UK.....things are ridiculously sewn up if you know what I mean by the USPPA, there is no such a thing as getting a "deal" on either a wing or motor...prices are all the same everywhere. Shopping around is frowned upon big time here, forget used stuff as most instuctors will not help you out and say it is a bad idea period...It's who you "know" here.
