Hi all, I got ripped off by Midland Paramotors who took all the money for a course before the owner/instructor disappeared without giving the training. I had purchased a wing and motor and now desperately looking for a trainer or a club in or near Shropshire. Can anyone help?

    thanks, Mark

Sorry to that news mate, I'm based in Crewe  south Cheshire not far from the shropshire border

    Cheers Danny

My personal experience is that if you train abroad on a fixed time period (1 or 2 weeks) you'll get signed off anyway whether you have done enough or not. There seems to be a lot of evidence to support that, including a quite blunt thread on here a year or so ago. There are clearly too many commercial pressures to sign everyone off at the end of the week. In the UK, you get signed off when you are ready, and move at your own pace. DISCLAIMER: As with everything, I'm sure there are good schools and bad schools everywhere.

The UK is clearly the better/safer option IMO, but it can be a logistical challenge for a lot of people, even without the weather. It can literally take years.

I think there is a real market for training schools that offer a combination of both options. Even though I can see it must be difficult to cover off both options with one school, surely it must be possible with partnerships.

I'm far from an expert but I'd say running a groundhandling/hops school out in Spain then returning to the UK to do your actual flying would be ideal. Surely the UK schools must know people who'd be happy to move out to Spain and run a GH school on their behalf?

Then when they get back to the UK they can just rattle through the flights, completing what you need to get signed off.

Hmm, uk and abroad you say, I've been doing it for a while, it works really well

    Hi

As far as I know there is nowhere near Warwick that does training.

I live in Stratford upon Avon and would have certainly done some training myself by now if there was somewhere more local.

My plan was to go and do a course with FlySpain or SkySchool this year but Covid has put an end to that until next year.
If you find anyone more local for some training please let me know.

Have a look at fly Italia www.fly-italia.co.uk

  5. Hmm, interesting read, but it appears it's not only the overseas instructors are lacking a bit, I've just had a guy book on an Italy trip who has spent well over 12 months at a non BHPA school in the UK, in this time he has managed to accumulate 2 flights, long story short he kept going to the school only to be left to his own devices, the last straw was when he was helping someone ground handle and he asked where he was up to, 5 flights the guy said, needless to say that was the last day he spent at the field, I just hope he's been taught the right way

  6. I've had a few enquires from pilot's that have just left a school and think they need coaching, this may well turn in to a conversion course where low airtime pilot's can get the coaching they need and also receive the BHPA CP rating whilst on the Holiday

  7. With the restrictions now removed I am pleased to announce that fly Italia is now open,

There is a holiday starting on the 20th October for 1 week

The price includes accommodation in the 4* Elia hotel which is 100m from the airfield

It also includes the hire of my paramotors 3 brand new PAP tinox Moster+ and 2 PAP Tinox Atom 80

All you need is a cheap flight out to Naples Italy, food and drink money and of course fuel money, this is a great trip for those that would like extra coaching or experienced pilot's alike, if anyone saw Tony's review in this months skywings you will know there are some spectacular areas to fly including 2000yr old Greek temples

Details can be found here http://www.fly-italia.co.uk/holidays

  8. I know what you mean, when you pull the wing up you want to hold the A's in one hand and and the D's /brakes in the other, pull the wing up with the A's gently, if it start to go to the left move your A hand to the right and the brake hand to the left, basically your trying to pull the front away from the turn and brake the high side, be gentle with no big movements and you'll soon stop it flipping, make sure your trims are equal

    Good luck 👍

  9. Pmsl laughing, you sound like Ronnie Pickering 🤣

Well why don't you enlighten us all and say who these so called schools are then we can all avoid them,

Just don't tarnish every BHPA school with the same brush,

Ratings are a way of progressing in the sport at the pilot's rate, hmm just like

Ppl,nppl CPL, atpl that all just sounds like a way to make money to me 🙄

With an attitude like yours I'm surprised you got your license, not very professional !

    Thanks Danny

Hi, not sure if your question was aimed at me or Paul. Anyways, I know some of them do, even a guy on here said it was one reason he didn't want to train with them. Maybe some have stopped, but I do know they have these tests for ratings and this silly Club Licence. Who's ratings? Who's licence? a load of crap.

I think you are referring to the schools that are mainly PG based with a power environment add-on, however there are many of Power only schools with no association with paragliding, as for ratings, ie club pilot I don't understand your load of crap comment, it is a way of knowing where the pilot is in their ability, it is a BHPA rating not a licence, yes they can fly but would Benefit from coaching in a club environment, a bit like learning to fly a 747 when you get your license yes you can fly the thing but does that mean you can fly 500 passengers to Abu Dhabi on your first flight, I doubt it, maybe you should research things before giving bad advise
