  1. Hi All Had just decided to learn to Paraglide first, then convert to Paramotors when a paraglider pilot is seriously injured on Firle beacon. There seems to be a section of thought that says slope soaring with a paraglider is inherently dangerous as there is not enough time to sort out tucks or deploy reserves. I guess it was similar situation when I was gliding on a ridge, if you needed to leave the glider there was little or no time to pull your chute. Does the ability of Paramotors to select a safe "cruising height" make them safer? Interested in your thoughts.... Kind regards Cessna
  2. Hi All Are there any planned fly-ins for the South/South East? Doing my research and would really like to feel how heavy a paramotor is, and talk to people who have taken various routes through training. The schools I have contacted to date, whilst really friendly all seem to go down the paragliding first route. Ideally I'm looking for a school in East Sussex/Kent that can offer a short intro/taster course (but I'm not sure if such a thing exists?) Kind regards Cessna
  3. Hi Yep, the airport (or Brighton & Worthing International as they like to call it!), I'll pm you for contact detail. Kind regards Cessna
  4. Hi I couldn't see the wing colour as I was down sun and the paragliders were silhouettes. I currently fly out of Shoreham I'll drop you a pm next time I'm down that way. Kind regards Cessna
  5. Hi Was at Firle beacon today getting some info on local training clubs from a couple of really friendly Paragliding chaps, when I noticed two Paramotors operating somewhere north of Newhaven, anyone from the forum? Kind regards Cessna PS Conditions were marginal for gliding/soaring, but the motor option looked good to me!
  6. Hi All When I learned to fly fixed wing I started gliding (it was cheaper and I was young and broke!) and then converted to power. Now I'm older (and still broke...children!) is learning to paraglide first an option and if so is there a good "hybrid" wing which I could buy to do both? I realise that maximum performance would not be achieve in either gliding or powered flight. Kind regards cessna

    Equipment Budget

Hi All I know this is going to be a "how longs a piece of string" type question, but well here goes.... Trying to work out the feasibility of leaving fixed wing PPL flying and learning to fly a Paramotor. The problem is the syndicate I'm a member of does not involve high share costs, but has monthly and hourly charges (in effect spreading the cost of flying) but still expensive compared to paramotoring £65/hr. If limited to buying second hand equipment, what should be avoided and what would be a realistic budget? Cheers Cessna PS I'm 6ft and 100Kg
  8. Many thanks for replies, certainly can carry 30kg, run and jump and have passed regular aviation medicals. As I have a fair piece of Titanium + "bits" in my right hip I worry a little about doing parachute rolls in that direction. However on reflection I guess that is less likely with a paramotor on my back? Will have to talk it through with the local school Kind regards Cessna
  9. I have always been in love with flying and after an aborted attempt at hang gliding in the late 70's I started flying gliders in 1981 and then converted my Silver C to a PPL (when this was easy) in the early 90's. Thanks to the enlightened leadership of our country and the "world" recession it looks like the PPL will have to lapse and I am looking for some alternative flying (I have always been attracted to Paragliding/motoring). Regretably I was involved in a serious car crash in 2003 and required in essence a hip replacement, is this sport going to be a non-starter for me?, are there any other mid 50's Paramotor pilots out there with "crocked undercarriages"? Kind regards Cessna
