Unlike all you lucky fellow members who can fly......me, I am still grounded until I sell some land and get some cash....then look out!
So, in the meantime, I am restricted to fulfilling my ambitions of flying to watching videos of those who can fly.
What gets my goat, and I really cannot understand the meaning behind it, is that pilots choose to add a "smoke machine" to their paramotor.
What is worse.....is that these pilots do it in an environment with huge publicity, annual events, fly-ins, and promotional fairs.
Am I missing something here? To me.....if we want to promote our sport to the general public, so as to attract new pilots, as well as be accepted for what we do.....in this "environmentally fragile" awareness, spewing out smoke (regardless of how harmless it may be) while flying in some of the worlds most beautiful locations....does not paint a pretty picture.
If I was a spectator at one of these events, (and knew nothing about our sport) and watched in fascination, these guys flying around, then all of a sudden they started spewing out this smoke stream....I would first think, there is something wrong with the machine and also be thinking about the pollution it was creating......then afterwards when it became obvious that the smoke was deliberate, I would ask.....Why the smoke?
Ok...I have had my rant, thank you.
Any comments? Agree or disagree? I am curious to know what the rest of you guys think.
Cheers.
Rob.
Ok to way lay your worries
Avionics oil that the red arrows use burns off in the exhaust also it’s that high it disperses in the air
The smoke on paramotors is normally mineral oil again disperses in the air over time

Hi,
How much does insurance cost for paramotoring both foot launch and trike/quad? Do I need to tell my life insurance company (Royal London) I intend flying soon?
Life insurance is totally separate unless your policy states no motorsport competitions etc
General insurance from Austria is about £150/ annum
called wing insurance

Is it a 50:1 mix? Wondering if I would need to add any oil for break in.
No
break in is normally 50:1
mist run then down to 25:1
however if you run at 50:1 your engine will be better protected
oil stops you holing pistons engine seizesure etc
recommend motel 8000

Hi all
can we have an events list for 2024

I’m surprised you run 1:50 on break in
Normally 1:25 for break in
I then drop everything and start a fresh

Do not remove the spark plug ring
its a one time compression gasket
even though people take em in and out without thought
the type k thermocouple is mounted to a brass washer used for its excellent transfer of heat
for ref you can remount the type k thermo couple and bolt it on to a head bolt but make sure it is torqued down correctly
alternatively any other bolt mount on the cylinder head just not on the fins
the temperature on the head will be parity uniform and a few minutes of continuous running
1/4 turn after nip on the spark plug only
hope this helps

Woman takes car into garage because it’s running rough
mechanic takes a good look and takes air filter off
arghh he says shit in the airfilter
she says how often do I have to do that then
lol
-
And yes positive trail on motorbikes aides cornering ex bike racer
we changed angles by slipping fork through yokes to make turning faster
push left to turn right faster and visa versa
-
If the front wheel has negative caster say -15degrees would steer itself within reason
caster angle ? Why ?
Camber on the rear wheels say -5 would also help unless you like side shifting
Ive only one leg so very interested in trying this

For ref
insurance on a trike can be got through one of three insurance companies who are British not Austrian however they only cover to a single item value max of £2500
Im working with the underwriters to see if they will increase the value
My latest quote is only £65 per annum to fly as a registered disable trike owner however until they increase the single item value or maximum full set up value I won’t take out the policy with them
Austria are on thin ice with me as I’ve a clear case for discrimination as a disabled person
thirdy part insurance no problem but pilots insurance was declined after I told them I was an amputee
erm so legal action maybe forth coming I’m awaiting there response Feb24
Also grandfather rights may apply if you have current insurance and then rules change
the FAA ain’t that bothered at sub 70 category since it’s only a single pilot and if you realy want to be a skin flint you can get 3rd party liability cover and nothing else for less than twenty quid but don’t expect anything in the event of a crash lol
Insure4sport is doing decent third party cover
as for training and insurance
thats another story
show me a uk qualified and certified instructor!
there isn’t such a thing
only experience and gentleman’s agreements
FAA doesn’t recognise any uk certificate
Ive I’ve spoken with them many times
And dealt with them for many years in the aviation buisness

At the end of the day a trike over 70kilos doesn’t fly by its self so to the letter of the law in court the dealer can sell it here in the uk
Fit for purpose designed to fly meant to fly and over 70 kilo however in court without a pilot and a wing it’s just a few bits of metal and rubber bolted together
its not the sellers fault although a strong caution should be given to anyone considering this route without a full licence
My bigger concern is anyone stupid enough to consider doing this without insurance is the greater threat.

Strip the cover off
spring snapped or shaft cracked me thinks
full top end service required

I hope you have a flag on the back when towing like that lol
nice idea with the hitch
so here’s an engineer’s take on front wheel castering
if you put a negative trail on the front wheel not positive then you wouldn’t need to steer it
curious why castor angle on the front wheel?
castor would be best applied say -5degrees on both back wheels to improve side shift.
just a thought

Here’s a thought if you want to insure on house insurance add as separate items
if you insure the engine it’s not an aircraft!
if you insure the wing it’s a kite!
just do them separately
neither can fly without the other however would get you insured so long as the accept them as separate
and I doubt any insurance company would even catch on
-
Insure4sport in the uk will cover you third party for £65
same values as Austrian insurance however single item value is only £2500 max
im working on them to increase the amount if they do then cheaper insurance and they cover world wide
-
Just spoken with Austria Insurance as a disable flyer
Third party cover now €140 for the year
However you can get pilots cover as well if you’re not disabled!
so since I’m like Francis I’ve taken them to task over it
They are not allowed to discriminate by uk law I’m looking into Austrian laws as we speak I think they are the same
I’ve also spoke to three other Uk based insurance underwriters to see if there is any chance they will offer a better deal
watch this space

You can seal but no real gain
because of there design the joint will always leak some residue
try a thin coating of pure silicon on the joint it will hold to 250degrees c
New trike balancing issues in need of help
in General paramotor discussion
Posted
Hi all
ok so trying to balance up a new build
Black bull 235 engine 18litre fuel tank
Dt propeller carbon trike 240 reserve
Evolution harness titanium frame
ok so had to move the frame four times forward to the front wheel and finally staring to get the crate to balance
one problem is I need to add 5 kilos to the front wheel
one problem I have is I’m a right leg amputee above knee…I know my missing leg was 2.5 stone so hence the weight requirement main issue is the harness and riser arms
the riser arms I’ve made are too high under the arms so designing a new set
The harness though is giving me big problems
the back seems too low
29” long and no way of fixing it high enough at the top
the base because it’s designed for a foot launch pivots ok for some but me on one leg is causing big issues… I’m looking at making a bigger seat base frame to help support my weight
the DT Propeller light weight seat frame has already bent so that’s turning into scrap soon as well
The big issue is that because the engine is heavy I’m having to make the riser arms a lot longer than normal to counter balance the weight but as a consequence this throws my seat further forward…well clear of the seat support frame. This also means that being closer to the front wheel is becoming harder
so in need of any suggestions to help balance this crate
note I’ve had links on and off so many times and had to bolt crudely arm extensions on all temporary just to try and find the balance point
once I get balance these will all be changed parts manufactured and made safe so although it initially may look dangerous it won’t be by the time I’ve finished
A nightmare for me in a wheelchair but I’m determined to get this finished one way or another
cheers
