  1. Hello again .

Well i hope the snow is not affecting you guys to much. we have very little here at odiham but the snow and ice team are treating it like a frozen apocolypse .

Anyway when the weather gets a little better is there anyone that would like to come gliding .

it would be run over a whole day with a BBQ and beer in the evening with the club house to sleep in if you decide to have a few.

A maximum of 8 people is all we can do as we are a small outfit with only 2 training aircraft .

I just thought it would be somthing a little different for some of you guys .

I will sort out the prices with the money man See if i can get it on mates rates and make it a cheap fun day .

    cheers jim

Simon please dont think im trying to plug my club . Just thought it would be something different if the weather is just that little bit to windy :fail:

  2. So gents .

I was wondering has there been anything that you have done to your kit to make life easier or things better as it were . has there been a little modification here and there that has made things just that little better for you .

maybe you would like to share and maybe we can learn from each other .

  3. Hi Morgy ..

If you ring 01256 702134 and wait for the operator . Then Ask for Odiham Air taffic control they should put you through .. If not Ask for the duty operations controller . they will also be able to help .

At the weekend call up on 122.100 and call Odiham radio .the air cadet gliding school will answer normally as Odiham radio . please be aware tho that they are only a RADIO service and can only advise. they are not Controllers so cannot give instructions.

If no reply from them call Kestrel base this is the RAF Gliding club they are also only a A/G Service But they are a helpfull bunch . Maybe im a little biased seeing as im a member there , hope to see you around .

Also be aware when farnbourough is operating on 06 they sometimes vector their ILS traffic in from about 2miles south of odiham onto the ILS path . Look at the chart and you will see what i mean .

A MATZ is unregulated Class G airspace therefore 'clearance' is not required.

A MATZ will, however, contain a separate, embedded, regulated, Government aerodrome ATZ which requires compliance with Rule 45. But i think its always better to give a call.

  4. Guys .

There maybe a new flying site opening up soon .

I was jsut wondering how many of you would be interested flying from a small farm strip near Oakley (approx 2 miles west of basingstoke) .

I have to have a couple of phone calls with people tomorow but first signs are good . it would make a nice land away site for the membury guys ..

maybe it could be turned into a little club as well

    please p.m me if interested

    jim

  6. Guys .

Whilst on my travels over the Xmas break I got talking to a freindly chap who worked at the site enclosed and protected by the restricted airspace he was intersted in the wing i was ground handling at the time and liked the idea of our sport .

It Came out whilst talking to him that there has been a number of infringements by paramotors or A paramotor, he seems to think its only one but couldnt be sure .

Please if you know who it is or have heard anything in general chit chat then please give them a freindly Nudge as airspace infringements are just more ammunition for people out there that might want to place regulation upon us .

Just for Info the airspace in question Is R101 Aldermaston. North west of basingstoke .

    thanks jim

  7. Well im a Sailplane man .

And having flown with the Team swift pilots a couple of weeks ago id say aerobatic sailplane flying is extreem, especialy the rolling on Tow, inverted spins, and balistic rolls.

And being in formation with other aircraft on the ridge in scottland doing 100kts with big pull chandells at the end of the ridge to go back the other way .

But the best has got to be in a start line thermal with 20-30 other ships waiting for the start line to open there are aitcraft everywhere . behind you ,above, below, in front, people joining. and somtimes you get really close when its busy ..

  8. Gents

I have been Mulling over an idea in my head for a while and wanted to know your thoughts.

Basically was thinking about a motor and wing Identification thing on the net .

Ie . owner : Jim Aggiss

Motor make : Fresh breeze Simonini Have a ID number on the frame IE. No.154

wing make Frsh breeze Silex No. 143 (have it on the wing a bit like a G-reg on normal aircraft )

    Wing colour : RED

    Motor Colour :RED frame

Was just thinking would be easier to identify if either or both were stolen.

And the Number on the wing could be used to track down people who Bust airspace or the ANO in someway.

Im not saying use it to dish out a spanking when people get things wrong . Instead re-education of what is and isnt allowed .

I think if the club can be seen to be taking a proactive stand for safety and the law . maybe the CAA and Easa will leave us alone .

Best of all it would cost peanuts to do i think .

    your thoughts please . JIM

  9. i hope so its jsut had a 18month rebuild and fresh paint ..

The last time i flew it she was a dream . tho nowhere as good as the GRP machines of today she still holds her own
