  1. Oh no - tried to start my Fresh Breeze sportix Simonini tonight in prep for a great weekend of flying planned and I cant get the thing to fire up at all......

I flew for 2 hrs last week and it was fine once started (which was really difficult). Now it shows no sign of life no matter how many attempts (arms are killing me - deffo getting leccy start on my next machine)

I have looked at the plug and it looks fine and sparks when turned over. Is there anywhere I could take it to get looked at and serviced or would you suggest I try something myself (im in hove). I am not that experienced with engine maintenance but can do basic stuff...

Thanks in advance for any help....

  2. I had a similar problem for about 5 minutes until I realised the tip steering ball was trapped between two risers which tensioned it just enough to cause some steering.

Where the karabiner clips into my wing, I have two options of where to slot through (Dudek Synth), i believe this is for offsetting torque if needed. I always check I put through the same loop on each side as my set up is well balanced anyway.

I suppose it could have been the ALC ball - (synth) pretty sure there was no cravaet etc... thanks for the replies - looks like I'm going to have to fly again to find out.. Ill make sure I've got plenty of right handed landing options...!

  3. Went for a really quick flight the other day - turned out to be even shorter than I imagined. As soon as I took off there was a notable turn to the right. My engine torques to the right anyway, but this was much more severe than normal as I was having to apply lots of left brake and weightshift to maintain, and eventually turn left...and back down to land...

No noticable problems / knots in the wing, trimmers were equal on each side, no tangles in speedbar or harness etc. I landed without power, but didn't really have enough time to tell if the wing was still turning right - If I had to guess then I would have said it wasn't...

The only thing I can think of is that my motor was torquing much harder than usual... has anyone experienced this? and what coul;d be the cause?...

Need to give the gear a thorough inspection, but this has worried me slightly.....

BTW what is the consesus on the best thing to do in that situation - whilst climbing and noticing a big right turn, should I let it have happened and gone around to the right to land, should I try and maintain course into wind to gain height, or should I have done what I opted for which was to fight a left turn out of it (better for me for keeping over landing space). I am thinking what I did might have induced a stall.....

    Cheers...all ideas appreciated

  4. Hi Robin -

Thanks - I got there as fast as flu-ed up wife would allow, but I thought it might be too late for you..

I managed a 50 minute flight out to the east towards beachy head. - perfect flight, very calm conditions and really enjoyed playing around the cliffs. Conditions were perfect for some low flying too, so did some of that in farmland away from anyone / anything.

One stupid thing I did was not to inspect the take off well. I took off on the field just south of the railway line as I had taken off fine (facing west) there before. I got off first time but it was a crap / long take off run as I was having to correct my wing on the ground and just made it over some raised ground. On the other side of the raised ground was a massive river / lake which I did not know about - if my motor had died at that point just after take off I would very likely have drowned.... I hate putting my life into the hands of the engine (although its arguably better than putting my hands into the life of the engine :-) )

Next Time I will ALWAYS check what kind of area I am taking off into - and abort earlier if needed....

Will give you a shout next time ... Cheers

  5. Hi - as pilots we all (to some degree or another) have conflicts to deal with - e.g. 'I want to fly.............but I don't want to crash'.

This became much more apparent to me after a serious paragliding accident I had. I still have that massive need to fly but balance it by flying with bigger safety margins (weather conditions etc). Sometimes, even on perfect days it is easy to find a reason not to fly (uncomfortable on the ground etc) - but when you do and you get time in the air it feels great!!

How about taking up some training with an experienced instructor to regain your confidence (plus the fact you are paying for it will give you more incentive to get off the ground)?

As for being uncomfortable, if it REALLY is a problem, you can always buy a lightweight machine, or even a trike....

If you don't continue doing this you will get old quickly and look back and realise how lucky you were when you were doing it and wish you had never stopped doing it so early...

  6. No Isle of Wight yesterday - but did get up yesterday from seymore's and flew down to the coast and back. Inland it was like flying in soup but nearer the coast the sun was out and it was surprisingly thermic.

I also found out that it's not a good idea to attach a petrol check mirror low (nearer the prop)......Its now shattered into tiny pieces - prop is OK. Next one I make I'll attach it higher so it doesn't have a chance of contact..
