  1. $4000 seems insanely expensive. No more than £1000 for a crash course if you went together.

Pilot handbook by Mark dale is worth reading.

If the motors new I'd track hours for the resell value, apart from that I'd like to know the rpm but it's not a deal breaker.

  2. The majority of the query is around how far back I should lean while running and when to lift knees up. What I do doesn't feel right and from watching falls on YouTube I'm just after a bit of clarity more than anything

Have you had any training or flown with other pilots?

What size wing/your weight/your motor's output? Is the wing overhead before you go for it? Are you applying any brake to lift off?

I've had some training and I've had 6 flights so far.  Wing is 27m apco lift. Wing is overhead before I start running but I think when I feel my legs getting lighter on the ground I try to get my knees up which will in turn tip the direction of the motor, maybe this is the issue. I've heard horror stories about people reclining and the motor turning away from the wing resulting in a stall, I want to avoid this at all costs but then others say you need to recline to get off the ground.

    I don't apply brakes at the moment, is it a quick/slow pull on both sides 3inch, 6inch hold for 1 second/ 5 seconds / 10...

  4. How do you take off?

Run forward, once the wings forward i run, apply full throttle and lean back as much as I can. I seem to be taking a while to take off and my arse ends up very close to the floor before I start to rise. What am I doing wrong?

Is my angle of attack wrong? Should I not lean back? If so, why?

  5. I've got a 185 moster classsic that claimed to only have 10hrs on it. I've done about 5hrs flying since I've bought it and starting to think it gains height much slower than my friends 185 moster plus, why is this?

He's literally off the ground in 4 steps where as I'm more like 15-20 with a brief moment of 'is it going to make It' going through my head. Full throttle, no difference there. Do I have some machine maintenance due or is it due to pilot weight ( I'm 3stone heavier and have a wing relevant to my weight).

I've checked the cylinder head and no sign of damage, could it be down to fuel/air ratio?

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks in advance

  6. Hi,

I seem to have a great deal of problems trying to get into my seat when in the air. I have a bulldog frame and harness and I've loosened the leg straps a bit but I still can't manage to shift my weight back and into a sitting position. Has anyone else had this problem and have a solution to comfortably get into the seat.

Last time I was up it proved to be quite dangerous flying like this as my weight pushed the prop to angle down rather than up. Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes I do feel like an idiot asking this question but just seem to genuinely have an issue wiggling/ pulling the wooden plank under my rear.

  7. Hi,

I've been taught you shouldn't fly in weather where gusts are more than 12mph and roughly no more than double the regular wind speed.

Do you guys have a a max wind speed you'd go out in? Is there anything else apart from wind and thunderstorms I need to keep an eye out for?

Additionally, I use windy and the Met office for weather reports, what do you guys use?

  8. Hi guys, I just fitted new tubes and filter  from the the carb down to the tank. I had no fuel in my tank and tired starting it up thinking it would take fuel from my 2nd tank but it didn't... As soon  as I ripped the pull start the engine started going full throttle and as it was on the ground it came hurtling towards me. Within 1/2 second I hit the kill switch and waited for my heartbeat to drop. My question is, what happened? If it didn't have fuel why would it start up?

  9. Hi guys,

I've just invested in a moster 185 silent (less than 10hrs on the clock). Does anyone have a list of short term long-term and every flight checks they can share.

E.g. every 20hrs change fuel lines

e.g. every 25hours change spark plug

E.g. every flight check colour of spark plug

Those examples have just been pulled out of my arsejust to demo what I'm after.

    Thanks in advance.

  10. Just the regular apco lift 2014 model.

My only concern with the smaller engines is they have to work harder which surely means more repairs and a shorter engine life.

It would be nice to accend 500ft +pm and get 2 1/2 hrs + from a tank.

  11. Inccoming first post.

I've got an apco lift M and now looking to buy my motor. I've been advised that the moster 185 classic or plus is the BEST out there. Now I know that's largely based on opinion but when I scout forums I can't really find anyone going against it.

I'm looking to buy second hand and feel like I'm missing out on some bargains due to staying away from other engines, can anyone offer any advice on what else to keep an eye out for?

    Thanks
