rob999
Another newbie style question concerning the legalities.... I know paramotors do not require a licence. I know paragliders do. What happens when you turn your motor off and free fly for a bit before firing up again? Are you always a paramotor even if the engine isn't running, or do you become a paraglider as soon as the motor is turned off...

Hi Rob, You are mistaken, the law is the same for both paragliding and paramotoring. i.e. You do not require a licence for either. So it does not matter if the engine is running or not. But the air law does change if the engine is running. i.e you would have to give way to non powered aircraft if your engine is running. rob999
I stand corrected. I was under the impression that you needed a PPL to fly a paraglider.

ptwizz
Are we all talking about the same country's legislation?
rob999
I have to admit, I thought you needed a licence to paraglide which is why their wings are registered..but not paramotor.
ptwizz
In the UK, there is no requirement to register wings or paramotors. Insurance companies may require that you identify the wing and / or motor that is covered by the insurance, but that is just between the insurer and the pilot.
