martinpa
My top 80 fuel cap does not seem to seal properly, so when I lay it down to put it in the car it sometimes leaks and I get a small amount of petrol in the car. Should it seal properly, I assume it should. If so should it have a rubber seal seal. If I tighten it to tight the thread jumps, so i can't tighten it further. Does anybody else have the same problem??? Any advice. I did make a rubber seal, but the petrol seems not to like the rubber.
nautica44
I have the same problem. I've yet to attempt a solution yet, but am keeping an eye out and will post if I find something that works. Keven
Guest
Use a silicone based rubber seal rather than oil based for petrol Take the cap off, and take a look at the top surface of the tube that is the caps home. make sure the top of that tube ( the hole) is flat. sometimes there is a seam mark which prevents it from sitting 100% Good Luck. SW I agree, this has been encountered a few times around here and a word with miniplane owner identified the problem. A quick filing with light sand paper and the problem is solved, just make sure scraped material will not get into the tank.
martinpa
Thanks for the suggestions, i'll give it a go. I wasn't sure if it was meant to have a seal or not. Does anybody else have a seperate seal in the cap?
martinpa
A bit of PTFE tape on the thread seems to have done the trick, I also took the funnber seal out and turned it round. Now I don't get petrol dripping in the car when I lay it down.
lukebanks1
The ones that come with the Minipalne Top 80 are useless. I have replaced both caps on my Miniplane tank with those from a Nirvana paramotor. They fit perfectly and do up tight with no leak. They also have an integrated breather. Hemberg
On the 2007 model I had it was difficult to screw on the cap, if I screwed it on too hard it popped right back up. I mentioned it to miniplane and they sent me new caps (without cost) that worked. I never leaned it so I can't say it was that tight on. I like the support on miniplane. Good motor, good service.
