Well the answer is yes if it is about the right size.

I dug up this old pressure cooker base at the bottom of the garden a month ago.

Now I've got some time on my hands I got to thinking I could make that into an antenna.

It works on the 1.3GHz band that I use for video links, and has a suprisingly good gain.

For the techies it's acting as an open ended waveguide with a 1/4 wave launch probe.
