outkast
I know a few of you use Garmin GPS units in wich case you probably use mapsource trip and waypoint manager on your PC, is there any way I can enhance the detail of the mapping within mapsource? I know you can buy enhanced maps for the actual handheld unit itself but I find the amount of detail in mapsoure dissapointing.

The best thing to do if you want good detail is get a windows operating system based PDA or similar and use Memory Map OS mapping You can also get the air charts as well to display air space. Phil_P
Depending on your personal feelings towards copyright, you could look for 'torrents' of the Garmin Topo maps.
alan_k
I just love your avatar pete b. It really sums up the feeling sometimes when the computer thinks it's cleverer than you, and insists on doing it's own thing! Alan
t_andrews
Just noticed this link while watching the worlds: http://paramotors.xcontest.org/world/en/ Includes a link to European airspace restriction overlays for mapsource. I welcome someone's input if they try it.

I know you can buy enhanced maps for the actual handheld unit itself but I find the amount of detail in mapsoure dissapointing. I use this http://ukgarminairmap.wikispaces.com/latestfiles to get overlay maps for my garmin 76C. I have a PC copy of memory map the will import and export to the garmin. To be honest I now never bother with waypoints to plan flights and just use it to see my actual track. I do like to glance at the airspave on the Garmin when I'm near airspace and http://ukgarminairmap.wikispaces.com/latestfiles do this well. As Pete says, memory map on the PDA is another league, but a PDA has battery life, stability and sunlight issues compared with the Garmin. Another thing to remember is that looking around for where you going is safer than looking down at the GPS/PDA for waypoints. Cheers Paul Thanks for the replies chaps, I do have memory map as someone gave it to me recently but have not sussed out how to use it, I know I can plan routes on it and it will download them to my garmin, with regards to the topo maps, I have seen them for the garmin I have but thought they only enhanced the maps on my handheld unit, they come on a micro sd card for my garmin vista, if I bought one would it enhance the mapsource application on my PC too?
