Very Dodgy looking Auction

Recommended Posts

Over recent weeks I have seen the same Parajet Whisper listed on Ebay several times. Each time with a different seller ID always brand new and registered just before the start of the auction.

Another suspect practice with this is anonymous bidding.

In high value items such as cameras for instance, a common scam is sellers advertise a non-existant item, usually at a bargain price, then protect themselves by making the bidding anonymous. That way, anyone who hase been previously conned cannot contact any other bidder to warn them.

Then, the seller usually contacts each bidder in turn and offers to end the auction early in return for an immediate cash payment 'Off Ebay' to 'save Ebay Fees'

I'm not saying this is definately a rogue seller, it may be genuine. BUT, why 4 successive owners of this motor would immediately relist it under an assumed ID and using exactly the same photo again does tend to make one suspicious of either the motor and/or the seller.

Just thought I'd offer a heads up for those who maybe don't use Ebay often and may be tempted

Yes Mark i think it's a bogey. I've seen that photo for 18 months now, and report it everytime it comes up. Did it lastnight and wrote to the seller asking their wherabouts because I was seriously interested in both of their listings and wanted to arrange collection. Guess what. No reply.

BTW Bill is here Thursday. Ring if coming up so I know just before

create two new ebay users. get them both to put in a couple of grand as highst bid then let the auto bidding take over. The scammer is hardly going to report it but will be faced with a ebay sellers bill that he/she will have to duck. Do this every time the motor appears in the auction?

That's what we did with a camera scammer once.

By the time his camera had reached £500K he had to withdraw it because the ebay final value fee was massive!:lol::lol:

I'm currently the high bidder btw, you'll have to stump up at least £6K to beat me

Updated 1906: Dave, Looks like it worked, I've just had a message from Ebay saying they have pulled the auction. Well done mate :D

Yay it went over 5K then "This listing (280232668070) has been removed or is no longer available"

I did get the following email from "Dean" but I don't think I'll be sending 1400 GBP anytime soon

Hello,

I think that we can arrange the deal now for GBP 1400 (free delivery) and we will make this transaction through eBay.

If you agree to start the transaction, you must send me your full name and address for the eBay invoice.

You will have 14 days return policy, if you are not satisfied with the item received eBay will give you all the money back.

Thank you,

Dean

Ha ha! 14 day return and Ebay will give you all the money back?

Of the dozen or so people who have tried to use 'Ebay protection' that's exactly what it is, to protect Ebay. No-one I have heard of has ever recovered more than 10p in the £ even when the deals have been outright scams.

I other words, when Ebay say 'Click here to find out how you're protected' don't bother, their terms and conditions mean it's not worth the effort

It will be interesting to see how long this joker waits before listing again huh?

Had this email:

Hello,

No problem about the delay. I sent all the details to eBay and they will send you an invoice with instructions to complete this transaction. The invoice is for £1450 , the price include the helmet. The delivery and insurance will be free.

Please let me know if you received the invoice from eBay.

Regards,

Dean

Then had a very official looking "ebay purchase program" money request, and considering there is no such thing in ebay you can conclude it's 100% scam.

Wants payment by Western Union to:

Name:

Richard Watson

Street:

24 Rosemont Road

City:

Liverpool

Zip code:

L17 6BZ2

Any scousers on here want to deliver a personal message ? or will this be a dumb address ?

Probably a dumb address but the guy would have to provide some proof of it to collect the money, or does he just have to provide the code. Unless sending money to a friend you have to be stark raving mad to do any business transaction through Western Union.

Dan, can you provide a scan of the ebay invoice, I've heard about these but never actually seen one.

Probably worth reporting this to the police and ebay too!

What a rotten git eh!
