Greg Evans
I'm new to this forum and seek advice on my Black Devil engine, which is fitted to a Dragonfly microlight from FlyLight in the UK. Due to a top-end failure of the Bailey engine originally fitted I have replaced it with a Black Devil, the current production engine for Dragonflies purchased new from FlyLight. The Black Devil has been run in, and flown once, but has developed an alarming fault. The starter motor energises as soon as the battery is connected. It continues to remain energised even after the engine starts. Needless to say I have removed the battery! My read of the wiring diagram indicates that the fault is probably in the 70 Amp relay which energises the starter. Does anyone have experience of this problem and if so, how did you rectify it? My personal rule about never putting bits of my person in the prop arc payed off today.
AndyB
Either the relay has failed closed, or the starting button has stuck shut. Just check them with an electrical meter on the circuit test mode (bleeps when circuit i made).
