simonposner
I need to buy a new helmet and I think I'm going to get a long visor with it. I'm contemplating is it best with a transparent visor, or a tinted one? Anyone have any experience with this issue?
poz
Definitely clear. You can always wear sunglasses under it, but if the light isn't brilliant, such as returning for landing after an evening flight, you can't un-tint the visor. Hope this helps. Daniel Posner ps I cannot believe there's another Posner on this site. It's getting to be a common name.

gordon_dunn
I find that I use the visor really only to stop the 'air in the face', and that when it's really sunny, just pop on a pair of sunglasses underneath. At least then you've the option of taking them off during flight, and still remaining comfortable. The visors can be lifted during flight anyway, but you can feel the increased drag when you do this. simonposner
Thank you all. It's been very useful advice. I've opted for the long transparent visor. Mainly because it would protect against dry eye, or at least minimise it, and also best for cloudy situations when you wouldn't want a tinted visor. Now have to wait for it to arrive
morgy
personally i wouldn't bother with a visor... they steam up in the winter and are easily scratched.. Use a good pair of goggles with changeable lenses..
