  1. Thanks.

Not many, I only learned this year. I'd be 130-140 all up.

Was just looking ahead to next year, and wondering if I can get away with either of these wings once I get to 20-25 hours, or if they would be too advanced.

P.S. I find the ozone and dudek websites give little away re comparisons between wings.

The dudek description even mentions the solo being similar to the universal, though my understanding is it suitable for more advanced pilots? Or is it as passively safe as a universal?

  2. Did you have a report air previously?

If so how to they compare for speed, stability and passive safety?

I'd like to get a few more hours on my A rated wing then try and skip the roadster/universal level and jump to a solo/report air.

But at the same time don't want to get too ahead of myself. Is there a minimum no of hours before one should be considering a solo?

  3. You don't need life insurance to get a mortgage (though obviously it may be sensible to do so depending on your circumstances)

I'd probably keep the two things seperate. Different insurers will have different requirements as regards flying. I'd see what your insurance brokers says, and based on past experience I'd be inclined to use a specialist insurance broker for that rather than a mortgage broker. But that's just my opinion, having had pretty poor advice on more than on occasion.

Hmm, sorry about that chaps. It's a problem testing this stuff, as the simulator is not wonderful so I rely on your flight tests for bugs like this,

To help track down the bug, does the reading (-330 or 500) mean anything to you ? i.e. did you take off at 500 feet, etc ? i.e. what is you garmin alti face saying the altitude is ?

And is it just a bug for those using the zero altitude feature ? I never use it, so might be why I've not noticed.

Save/discard: I'll think about it. It's one thing I don't like on garmin apps, as I've chose the wrong thing and lost a track sometimes walking, etc. So I made it that way.

Have sent you a PM with the link to the activity.

Not sure of the elevation, but I'm certain it is less than 500ft. Looking at an online elevation map, its about 250.

I love this app, I'm just having one problem since the last update though... the altitude seems to be all over the place, like last flight it auto zero 'd when I opened the app as its supposed to, but after my flight the altitude at my take off site was reading -330 feet instead of 0, any suggestions?

Mine also dropped 500ft during an hours flight. I initially thought it was due to the setting on my watch above so was going to try without that, but maybe there has been a bug introduced.

I also used the zero altitude at start feature.

Pressure would vary slightly, but not that much in an hour.

Updated menu fields to reflect current settings as requested.

    Thanks, menus look lots better.

I tried this the other day, and worked fine apart from altitude was all over. I think this was because I had auto altimeter calibration set to Continuous within apps in my 945 system settings. I've changed to 'At Start' and will try again.

Not sure if you got a chance to look at adding a save/discard menu at the end like the garmin activities. Unforunately as it is I have an activity for every failed launch ☹️

  7. Hi,

Thanks for the response. That all makes a lot more sense now. I've tried it on the ground and will give it another go in the air now.

I should make docs more clearer. Once toggled on, it only starts working from the next time you start the app. It will continue to zero each time you start the app unless you toggle off.

Doh! That was a lightbulb moment. Tested and seems to be working now. I kept pressing that option expecting my altitude to reset to zero. It possibly would help if there was a bit more documentation 🙂

if you select autorecord then it will start recording. if you exit the app, and start it again you will see it auto starts recording.

it is recording when the red dot is flashing on and off.

Same again, I was expecting this to change now rather than on a restart.  I'll keep an eye out for the flashing red dot now.

that's fair, I should update to say. some are obvious (arrows, metric), but some are not. its tricky as you have so little space to write text that makes sense. but that's a good one - I'll fix that next week - thanks for the feedback.

Yeah, I realise the Garmin APIs are the layouts a bit restricted. All it probably needs is a single character at the front of each option. _ for off, * for on or whatever?

Oh, I should say - its much more clearer if you use the garmin connect app to change the settings - then there are actual toggle switches - so you can see what is on and what is off - but still - I need to make it clear on the watch.

Agreed, I hadn't tried this, so thanks for suggesting.

One final request ... any chance of getting the option to Save or Discard at the end of the flight, as you do with other activities. It saves and uploads whether you want it to or not at present.

Having reread my original post, I hope I wasn't too critical. It wasn't meant that way. The app looks great, I was just struggling to get it to work. Hopefully should be all good now with those tips.

Thanks for the reply anyway, looking forward to trying again.

  8. Dont take this as instruction, as I'm only at a similar level to you.

But I tried lengthening the leg straps slightly and think it helped. This means when you feel the lift, the seat is already lifted that extra inch and not so 'underneath' you if that makes sense.

Lengthen too far and you may struggle to get in the seat, but I think it helped me.

Then maybe when you get used to the sensation, you can go back to how they were.

  9. Only tried this a couple of times but struggling to get on with it unfortunately.

First time was ok. 2nd time didn't auto start.

    Just playing after the upgrade:

    1. Zero Altitude Tog does nothing for me, just stays at circa 160

    2. If I click Auto Record Tog, it just starts recording. No option as to whether you want auto record or manual record.

It doesn't seem obvious when it is recording and when it isnt. Sometimes it vibrates, sometimes it doesn't.

And the toggles menus make no sense as they dont tell you whether stuff is on or off. So at any point how do you know you are set for manual or auto.

Are you able to advise on the above points? Or link to a full user guide?

The app looks great, I'm just finding it a bit unintuitive, and some of the basics seem a little intermittent.

    Running on a 945.

    Thanks

  10. Back to the original question, I bought a cheap GH wing before training.

Then I bought a decent wing after training.

There is a big difference between the two. But it was launchable, and I did use it if the weather was rubbish, or there were dogs running around on public land or whatever.

It depends if you have anyone local to help you. I struggled trying to follow youtube tutorials with it, because it just wasn't that forgiving. I'd have definitely had more luck with my new one.

But once I knew what I was doing, I could launch it and handle it. So you may get somewhere with a cheap one.

Then when I finished I sold it for what I paid for it. So it wasn't a waste of money, just maybe keep your expectations in check, especially if you dont have anyone to teach you.

  11. That's a very good point that I had never considered, and probably explains why I was taught left hand throttle.

Then again I have seen videos teaching the A's D's method with A's in right hand, so I suppose any combo works,  but whichever way you do it you make a very valid point that youd want throttle in the other hand.

I'm glad I didn't switch to right handed now, as I did think about doing so.

  12. I went left, my non dominant hand. But looks like I am in the minority from what I have seen.

In addition to the above point about having my good hand free for tablets, charts etc, I also wanted my good hand free for throwing reserve, rather than left hand or right hand with throttle.

I really would like to have tried both before committing.  The vittorasi throttle can be swapped round, if that's an option for you.

  13. The only real risk I can see is people can a) use your password (so change it if you have used elsewhere) and b) use your personal details to try and scam you.

Both of those scenarios are already out there, so leaving now probably doesn't achieve anything.

Disclaimer: I dont know what details they may have eg DOB etc

Hope you get this sorted Simon, whatever their motives it isnt nice to see someone doing their best for the community to have all this hassle.

  14. Are there any options for replacing the coloured hoop on a maverick?

I've no need to right now, but my understanding was this was the expensive bit rather than the actual netting.

Or is the hoop itself fairly bulletproof and its usually just the netting that gets damaged?

    Replying to this video.

Your either idiots or your being paid by one of the manufacturers
    Your maths are all wrong.
    Bailey with reserve
    30.80kg + giles. 82.40kg = 113.2kg
    You said 119.3kg

    Parajet 28.65kg + giles 82.40kg = 111.05kg
    You said 113.3kg

    Wasp 30.10kg +
    Giles 82.4kg = 112.50kg
    You said 114.8kg
Who gives a toss about a kg here or there...total bollocks...just remember to go for a nice big  crap before you go flying then there's your 1.5kg difference.
How much did you get paid?
Got bored with the bullshit halfway through.
Did you allow for the fuel weight difference between 2 stroke and 4 stroke.(4 stroke less fuel weight)..i mean for Christ's sake you didn't even mention how much fuel was in each tank...which is beyond ridiculous, to anyone with half a brain cell it looked rigged...or you are in fact stupid.
Leave me a message and I'll come down to help you do a proper test that makes sense.
Don't put your Youtube + product placement links + sponsorship profits over peoples intelligence.

15.51min. giles said stupidly light!...bit of an overstatement, now if it weighed 10kg lighter yes maybe..but on maths approximately only 1kg between the 3 paramotors.
Definitely money driving this video...you shamed yourself by trying to think we are idiots.

I thought it was a good video. All machines had 2l of fuel in them, that was stated in the video.

It wasnt a full on lab test, and they went out of their way to say that.

Perhaps you could explain what your interest is, and why you've taken the effort to create a whole new account and voice your displeasure?
