  1. I agree that build quality and is important, and although the parts are not actually made in Britain the quality control has a lot to do with it, and you have given some good examples of how to get it right, but I think it is a bit narrow minded to think that if a company is based somewhere else they will have have lower standards. there are many foreign manufacturers that have the same high standards.
  2. It has a Vittorazi Moster engine, so no more likely to break down than all the other manufacturers using this engine. Do you think that if someone buys engines from Italy, frames from somewhere like Spain, harnesses from Israel, the assembles a complete paramotor in Britain and calls it British, then it will suddenly become more reliable?
  3. I don't think we should be thinking of using something like this in the same way that we use a paramotor, but more like a winch. I mean something to get you of the ground gain some height and then glide because you have no more power in the batteries.
  4. I have an even more economical form of transport, but the problem is when I get to the flying field about 5Km away, I am too knackered to launch
  5. Err its quoted as $550.. The shipping price of $550 dollars is quoted for shipping to the US no to the UK, shipping within the EU is much cheaper. If buying from Ebay use Paypal and you have a lot of protection.
  6. It comes from Bulgaria (an EU member), so you should have no problems with import duties or VAT being charged on import. Shipping to or from Bulgaria is not much more expensive than shipping in the UK. Frame and cage looks very lightweight, cheap maybe even flimsy, it may or may not be made from a cheaper softer alloy, I doubt if it is made from a hard aircraft grade alloy like 7020 for that price. I like the look of attachment points a nice simple design, but I would want a closer look at the arm to frame attachment before buying because it may not be strong enough. it looks like the type of frame and cage that will easily bend if you fall over, so not ideal for a beginner. Netting is inadequate - needs modifying. You should not have too many problems with after sales as far as the engine is concerned, because you can deal with Vittorazi direct. Good price, the price is not 'too good to be true' the Moster engine costs about £1800 (trade) and about £1000 for a relatively cheap frame, harness and wooden prop makes it a sensible price. If you get one, I would like a look.
  7. yes, it is much easier to fly in safe conditions and at a safer height with a motor
  8. I have a bowl carb on my Yamaha engined paramotor. I have not noticed any improvement in economy. I seem to have a bigger power band and a more smooth increase in power. After doing a spiral I have great difficulty in restarting the engine in flight, I think the carb bowl empties, because it takes lots of priming and cranking to get it started.
  9. Did you change it or repair it last time it happened? If you changed it then it would suggest that the engine casing that it mounts on is not flat, you try adding gaskets to compensate this. Also check you prop balancing, that is the the sort damage that fibrations can cause, especially on the prop pulley housing
  10. Vittorazi do sell a 130cm Helix prop. The 130cm prop is an option when you buy a new Moster engine, so we can assume that it has been fully tested by them. Some paramotor manufacturers that offer a choice of the 125cm or 130cm prop on the Moster engine claim more thrust from the 130cm. For example: PXP Moster with 125cm prop = 70Kg thrust, PXP Moster with 130cm prop 73Kg thrust. Only consider doing this if you have enough cage clearance. Prop cloning - You can often find clones of the original tested and recommended props that give the same performance at a better price, but I do not know of a clone of the the 130cm Helix Moster prop.
  11. I think the step back was necessary with the first generation reflex wings which were quite difficult to get overhead, but with the latest generation reflex, or non reflex wing it should not be necessary to step back. Starting with tight lines (no snatch) reduces the chance of pulling up uneven, so is the preferred technique for me.
  12. I can.... Yesterday I needed some parts, yesterday I got those parts.
  13. By the way: I flew a Nemo for about 2 years (about 250 hours) and was very happy to float around slowly, taking photos, thermalling and admiring the views, I did not feel the need to go faster and to cover more ground or fly in stronger wind, (I am very much in the minority here) Only when I thought I deserved a new wing did I choose one with better performance. Paul D
  14. Vinnie, A Nemo Moto is a very good wing for your first flights as it is so easy to launch and land, it especially good because it has a very slow launch speed, it will start to lift you you at a little more than walking speed, it is very good in a school environment but as someone said in one of the previous posts, you will probably quickly grow out of it and want to buy something else. However maybe your instructor has correctly assessed your level of ability, fitness, age, weight and your aims and recommended one for the right reasons. Paul D
  15. Here are some photos from the display that we done at Loei, Thailand on 18th Jan https://picasaweb.google.com/108964538450131031082/ParamotorDisplayLoeiThailandJan2012 Paul D
  16. Hello Dragonfly, Are you going to the Fly-in at Loei on Tuesday-Wednesday 18th? If you are I will see you there. Paul D
  17. Hi, I was referring to the photos that were posted by Iain, after your post, that show scoring on the cylinder. Paul
  18. Hi Iain, I had the same problem as in your photos with the F200 engine, I showed it to someone that specialised in reconditioning 2 stroke engines, he told me the exhaust port was not properly rounded and the piston ring was catching on the sharp edge. He suggested I could round it off with a a grinding stone on a rotary tool like a Dremel. I told Fly engines and they send me a new cylinder and the problem was solved. Paul Deakin
  19. Fantastic weather here in Thailand, still flying in shorts and T shirt, a bit bumpy with strong thermals in the day but smooth evening flights. Paul D
  20. I use a Thule Easy Base, the model that is can carry up to 60Kg, I was a bit concerned that the clamp on to the tow hook may not be up to the job, but it has proofed to be very good and easily strong enough
  21. I think it depends on what you mean by "Via your instructor" if you paid your instructor for the equipment in Saudi, then you purchased it from him, and EU directives do not apply to you. It is also unlikely that distance selling regulations will apply to him if he is a dealer because they are written for consumers not dealers who will normally have agreed terms and conditions with the supplier. Distance selling regulations do allow a consumer to cancel and get their payment refunded but the supplier can deduct any costs incurred if an item was manufactured specifically, which I expect they will claim to be 1500GBP So you are better of trying to negotiate a better price for the upgrade, and ask them to explain the costs. Paul D
  22. I use a front mount reserve connected direct, I found this a much simpler set up, better than having a bridle routed behind the neck, but I replaced the gate carabiners on the swinging arms with 9mm steel maillons, I would not trust a gate carabiner with the sudden snatch load that a reserve deployment could cause (not even stainless steel ones), but maybe that's just me be over cautious Paul D
  23. What do you mean Nylocks? surely the most manufacturers use bolts, not studs with nuts, or are you referring to some kind of washer? Paul D
  24. OK, but why come onto a forum about the sport and tell everyone if not to provoke a response in defense. SW I don't know whether the original post was intended to provoke, but I think it is good to read the opinion (right or wrong) of of someone that is looking at the sport from outside, I don't feel the need to get defensive about it.
  25. I would like to join in on the flying part of this idea
